Free access to Oxford Journals Online from Nepal? Great News for research organizations in Nepal. Read below for details.

------------------

Dear Colleagues

My name is Anne Powell and I am writing to welcome you to the Programme
for
the Enhancement of Research Information (PERI) in Nepal, a programme
enhancing access to online research information.

Over the coming weeks, a range of information resources will be made
available to researchers within the following institutes and situations
within Nepal FREE of charge:

University departments, university libraries, not-for-profit research
institutes and centres, higher education institutes, colleges,
polytechnics,
teaching hospitals, indigenous non-government organisations (NGO's) and
indigenous Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). Access is also available to
health professionals and agricultural extension workers and other
professionals with a not-for-profit remit, working within remote areas.

I am pleased to let you know that two resources are available for free use
immediately:

Oxford University Press Journals
Access to over 120 leading titles in science, technology, medicine,
humanities and social sciences published by the world-renowned Oxford
University Press. To find out full details and to register for access,
please go to:
http://www.inasp.info/peri/resources/oup.shtml
Please follow the link under the section How Do I Gain Access? and
complete
the online registration form. You can send this form online, by clicking
the
submit button. The form will automatically be sent to OUP customer
services
staff and to staff here at INASP. Please be sure to complete all fields
within the form to ensure you get access. If you encounter any
difficulties
or have any questions, please contact me.

OUP staff will then get in touch with you by email within a short time to
give you the unique Username and Password for your institute (or to enable
IP access if you have requested this). After this, all users within your
institute will be able to access all OUP online journals for no cost.

African Journals OnLine (AJOL)
Tables of Contents and Abstracts from over 160 African journals are also
available to researchers within Nepal. If you require the full text, INASP
will supply photocopies of articles from these journals to libraries
within
Nepal free of charge. Please register the first time you use this
resource.
This will entitle you to immediate access, without needing a user name or
password. For full details and registration, please visit:
http://www.inasp.info/ajol/index.html

Further online information resources will be available to all users within
the above institutes over the next few weeks. I will write again as soon
as
information becomes available here. In the meantime, you may wish to visit
http://www.inasp.info/peri/countries.html and click on Nepal for details
on
the progress of the programme in your country.

Finally, one of my responsibilities within INASP is to maintain our
database
and write introductory letters to institutions joining PERI. Can I ask
you
please to let me know of the name, address and contact details of any
institutions, departments or individual colleagues who you feel should be
kept informed about the programme.

I hope this gives you enough information at this stage; I will be in touch
with you again in the near future. If in the meantime you have any
questions, do let me know if you need further help.

Kind regards

Anne Powell

Thanks Ashu, I am also trying to compile a list of journals that might be useful for Nepali research organizations and that are accessible through CUJ. Hopefully, this should be ready within a few days.

Can you try accessing JSTOR from Nepal?
Usually it require university subscription.

Thank Bhunte. I didn't see the whole list before. As far as I know, JSTOR is not availble in Nepal--I tried it from there a few years back with no success. It would have been a great resource otherwise.
Bhunte Posted on 04-Aug-03 09:54 AM

binaya,

Elsavier's publications are also freely accessed from Science direct. i forget the web add...but very good one..
binay Posted on 04-Aug-03 10:48 AM

Bhunte, the URL for sciencedirect is : http://www.sciencedirect.com/ It also requires university subscription (or you can have an individual "pay-per-article" subscription option). Apart from JSTOR and Sciencedirect sites, I think the WebofScience site at http://webofscience.com is very useful, especially if you are looking for online version of science or social science citation index. How nice it would be if we could access them from Nepal. Being spoiled by all these resources here, I really missed those while I was working in Nepal.
