Preparations to merge the armed police force into the Royal Nepal Army is in the final phase, a published report said Monday quoting security sources. "If the meeting of the Security Council takes a decision, armed police will automatically be merged into the army," Rajdhani daily reported Monday. A meeting of the Council was held under the leadership of the then PM Lokendra Bahadur Chand two and half months ago. "The meeting decided to recommend to the King the dissolution of armed police into the army," the report said. PM Surya Bahadur Thapa has been hesitating to forward the recommendation to the King due to differences among the security bodies, according to the report. The armed police force was constituted three years ago following civil police's failure to control Maoist revolt. Security Council has three members - the PM (chairman), Defence Minister and the Army General.
