We've seen and grown with the deteriorating condition of our country..all because of the so -called Power Hungry men.Now for a change how about letting women take over our country. I know there might be rude responses to this but it's just a thought that crossed my mind.Yeah women are bitches and gossip mongers,i agree, but they are shrewd and responsible too.
porcelina Posted on 07-Aug-03 11:02 AM

why not?? todays women are competent enough i think... they're exceptionally well educated, comparing to the women from just 50 years ago. and i think its wrong to stereotype women as gossipmongers and selfish just because a few do so. even men like to gossip, dont you guys?? its just that i dont think any of you would go around spreading the gossip. i have a lot of guy friends who'd gladly sit around finding out who did what to whom and whose thongs were showing etc etc.

women of nepal, rise!!! i think any women would do a far better job at handling this country. they could even chase the maoists out with a dadu or panyu!!!!

phoenix Posted on 07-Aug-03 11:18 AM

I totally agree with you porcelina.WATCH OUT ...here comes the women with the dadu and panyu!!!;)

Arnico Posted on 07-Aug-03 02:32 PM

Good idea. Who would be likely candidates?
whine and chij Posted on 07-Aug-03 02:35 PM

(sir edmund) hillary for prime minister!

remember back in the day when the name "hillary" evoke quite different images?
phoenix Posted on 08-Aug-03 09:37 AM

Didn't know Sir Edmund Hillary was a woman hehehe...no hard feelings though
Help_desk_3 Posted on 08-Aug-03 09:45 AM

um.....HOW ABOUT NO!
phoenix Posted on 08-Aug-03 10:05 AM

Why a' NO'??? Do you think the ruling men have done a good job till date? Why do you think women can't rule well ? If we don't give them a chance how will we know if they are capable or not ? The" Men " can risk the lives of all our country people but can't bear to risk their lives under the hands of a woman!! Pathetic creatures...tch tch tch
Bilbo Baggins Posted on 08-Aug-03 10:11 AM

We shouldn't let women rule the country just because of their SEX. Find me a qualified woman I will support her!!
yoUnGbLooDZ Posted on 08-Aug-03 11:57 AM

I HOPE YA"LL HAVE HEARD OF "JUN JOGI AAYE PANI KAAN CHIREKO"

Even the man who had become primeminister.. or has held any other government post .. said quite lot before they were elected.. we ll do this n we ll do that.. but like they say in nepal "KHOLA TARYO LATTHI BIRSIYO'.. they have forgot the promises..

Today, i don't see any chances that nepal will be counted as developing countries.. neither as a developed country till end of the dayz.. Nepal will keep up with its position that they were honored with.. THE POOREST COUNTRY..

Either it be men or women... or the neutral.. its gonna remain same.. so i have no pblms.. who the fawk comes in power..

And again.. i personally think.. its fault of the nepalese poeple as well.. there might not be alot of educated.. people.. but that must not be an excuse.. they know wuts wrong and wuts right.. who will do good for them.. n who will not... they should choose a candidate whose been doing well for his/her surrounding/area.. not the one who show up only at the time of elections and promises millions of stuff.. and its tradition to be jealous a person whose doing good for others.. pull his legs..neva let him go fwd... that reminds meh of "nepalese bhyagute" story sumone posted here in sajha.. if ya'll read the story.. u ll know wut i really mean

Women? how many womens are in leadership position? Nani maiya came in power showing her fariya, but what she did was becoming rich overnight. Talking about the NC female leaders few became M.P and Minister becuase they were kind to K.P. Bhattarai and Girija Koirala to fullfill laters' Sexual need. Same thing applies to UML female leders as well. I don't think its gonna work out anytime soon until there is radical change.

phoenix,

an appealing topic by you.........Yeah, we've seen as in other parts of south asia : Bangaladesh, Srilanka, India, Pakistan------ PM/President being a Woman. Hence, Nepali woman can also do that job, would do superior job than current Nepal kaa hasthee haru..... Nepalese woman are not like what it was many years back. I have seen many girls with higher education, tackling different problems, they are equal to the man in all aspects.

cheer up Nepali Mahila!!

Himali Yatri really need to come out of his PhD lab with scissors and needles...If Women's rule would solve the problem, probably GPK, SBD, MKN, SBT, LBC, BDG, KPO, TNRB, RCP, PSJBR, etc would all be ready for a sex change or at least be a lady in disguise...eheheh
jaya_nepal Posted on 09-Aug-03 06:17 AM

My candidate for the First Woman Prime Minister of Nepal would be Ms Shailaja Acharya. I am sure she will be the best leader at this time of need. Any support for her..???
phoenix Posted on 11-Aug-03 01:03 PM

Hey Bilbo what has one's sex got to do with their being able to rule a country? It's more about their capability and responsibility.
YB i read the story of the Bhyaguta...it can very much be identified with our rulers .
Khimu and Neural, malai pani TV ma hamro nepali mahila pradhan mantri ko anuhar herna mann paryo hau.If i'm not mistaken ,i guess Asia has seen a lot of powerful women of great position and reputation in the past years.
Bhunte..would love to see them all in disguise ...but i'd prefer real women than these fakes!!
Sahana pradhan,Shailaja acharya....who's next??
JAI NEPAL :)
porcelina Posted on 17-Sep-03 08:46 AM

my exact sentiments, phoenix. as for people saying that women cant rule because we''re, well WOMEN... i'd like to ask you... What century to you live in??

women aren't limited to the kitchen only, hope you realise that. there is a shrewdness, a diplomacy in todays women, the kind they learn from handling a job, their husbands needs, kids, the husbands family, the cooking, the cleaning, the finances, you name it. even despite all of this, they'd jump into further education without a second thought. most men i know, if they have to help around the house a bit more than they normally do, they grumble, grumble, whine and finally relent, but only after being promised a massage or 2.

suppose the maoist issue were to be resolved soon, even then the amount of work that nepal would need to go through is quite a handful, isn't it? develop this, develop that, welcome this industry, welcome that industry, public relations, a total economic and social facelift, and god knows what else. i say, even if we dont have a woman to rule the country, atleast have loads of them as top officials. Most middle aged women today are already trained by life itself to handle tough situations... think of what women of my generation, or the ones after could do.

give us a chance. whats there to lose?

On the lighter side, sitara ji have you ever thought of taking such responsibilities?i'm sure you are a very eligible candidate.guess some people in sajha also agree.Never know what the future has in store for us.
But seriously we "women"can do equally well in this field too. It's just that some people can't digest the fact of being under a woman's rule. Forget about this thing turning into reality..the mere thought of it affects them(guess it gives them the shivers!!!) Muust be their worst nightmare !!! hehehe
Peace:)

At the onset, I will first state categorically that I fully support the need for equality for women in all fields of human endeavour. That the laws must support the aspirations of women along with safeguarding their rights and ensuring a just and equitable society for them.

That said, I sometimes find here statements of female superiority. Since, this thread is about giving women a chance at the reigns of power in Nepal, an entirely acceptable proposition to me, do lets examine some facts and figures for the region that Nepal is situated in. The World Bank numbers are presented hereon for perusal:

GNI per Capita % of people living adult illiteracy 1995 / 2001 Dollars on less than $1 a day 1995/2001
1995 /2001

Nepal $ 220 / $ 250 37.7 / .. 73% / 57%
Pakistan $ 490 / $ 420 11.6 / .. 56% / 55%
india $ 380 / $ 470 52.5 / 34.7 47% / 42%
bangladesh $ 330 / $ 380 .. / 36.0 62% / 59%
sri lanka $ 730 / $ 870 6.6 / .. 9.8% / 8.1%

I then pose this question to Phoenix: How much of these positive changes can be attributed to having women at the helm ? Please furnish evidence to support these claims, if such, that the numbers would have been better were men not involved in positions of poltical leadership.

You are also kindly requested to present, if possible, proposals of change and positive actions and vision that only a female leader can bring to Nepal and effectively implement. As always, I am open, and look forward, to being educated.

There have been, and still are, a number of higly visible female leaders in a politically and socially volatile region. Goin against conventional wisdom, two heavily populated Muslim countries, Pakistan and Bangladesh, still have female politico's playing important roles in their nations. The battling Begums of Banladesh and the effervescent Benazir Bhutto.

Benazir, with her husband as front man along with the rest of the feudal overlords, robbed the country blind. Under her watch, the strife in Karachi reached fever pitch between the Mujahir's and local Sunni population with daily killings galore. It was also during her reign that the madrasahs of Pakistan spawned the fanatical Taleban hordes that raced across Afghanistan, with some fanned out across the globe with their message of hatred.

To east, the battling Begums of Bangladesh tried their best to destroy each other with endless bundhs and political vendettas when either one was in power. That Bangladesh saw a postive increase in their nubmers has more to do with the industry and fortitude of their people than the vision of their leaders.

A further south finds the deadly duo in Sri Lanka, under whose watch the civil war flared up and spawned arguably the deadliest terrorist/guerrila fighters of these times, the Tamil Tigers. Both Bandaranaike, and later Wickramasinghe, played the hand of the Sinhalese hardliners. Much to the detriment of an peaceful and entrepreneural people.

Having examined both the numbers and the recent political history, I am inclined to believe that it matters not a whit whether women or men lead the political establishment in our region. Their only focus is to gain power to amass ill gotten wealth, privelege and power for themselves and their parties. Citizens and the nations' well being rarely feature in their plans.
czar Posted on 17-Sep-03 05:22 PM

The table got messed up big time..

But here is how you read the data: $ 220 / $ 250 37.7 / .. 73% / 57%

The first two dollar figures are GNI per capita 1995 / 2001 ($ 220 / $ 250 )

The second two figures of 37.7 / .. are for percentage of the population living on less than $ 1 a day with data from 1995 and 2001

The last two numbers 73 % / 57% are adult illiteracy rates for the years 1995 and 2001

Cheers !
Garibjanata Posted on 17-Sep-03 06:18 PM

Sailaja Acharya, my foot.
Why I don't endorse her.
1) LACKS HONESTY AND INTEGRITY- HER FAST WAS A FARCE
Ms Achaya recently went on a fast to wash away the sins that her party committed while at the helms of power. Wow, didn't Ms Acharya find a easy way out to make atonements of her party's sins? Don't eat food for a couple of days and you get all the media attention and top of it your sins are all purged out

If Ms. Acharya had any sincerity, she would have urged her relatives and her party people to return all the ill-gotten wealth allegedly amassed by them. But she didn't.Who is Ms. Acharaya trying to fool?
Also, wouldn't it have been much better if she would have observed fast on to death at that very time when her near and dear ones were looting the country and inspire them to stop the plunder. She didn't anything of this sort in those times because she herself was an active participant to it.

2)NO NEPALI CONGRESS PM ANYMORE. BP or GP , THEY HAVE RUINED THIS NATION.

3)She is CHANDRA SHEKAR's DEAR FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Prem Charo Posted on 17-Sep-03 07:26 PM

What about Nani Mayia Dahal, for change ?

I endorse that move to all! It certainly corrects the distortions in the natural order of things as they are meant to be.

So I duly register my vote for Sitarajyu to take over our country!
