It was 1986 and I had just landed in Nepal. I went to see old pals at Thamel in the KC's Restaurant. Somebody came running to me and told me one Kuire wearing Daura Suruwal has been beaten by a Hamal near Coloroma Labs. I was with my cousins and being the eldest in the mob had to respond fo the call. It was there in badly beaten state I found late Laurie McKinna the Boston Brahmin and a graduate of Harvard Business School. He was renting an apartment from Amar Singh the noted Nepali Cinematographer, yes, he is also married to my brother Kishore and Pradip Bickram Rana's sister. I found out this Hamal being son of former Chief of Protocal Fanindra Bahadur Hamal. Apparently, Hamal and another crazy Rana called Piyush gave him a drumming a savage one for romaning Piyush's lover Durga Pokharel. I reported the matter to my uncle Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hem Bahadur Singh. Both Rana and Hamal were arrested and locked up in Hanuman Dhoka. They were given usual Nepali Police traetment being Shisnu and Pani up the bum. You can't treat foreigners like that.... Anyway, McKinna was really an eccentric and a hyper lunatic. I don'y know the truth and McKinna started to tell me that Durga's PHD had been written by him and he had contacted Harvard after she gave him the ditch too. Later on Harvard would ban Secretary of GBNC for stalking Durga. In any event I went to Harvard secretly to solve the legal challenge brought on them by McKinna. I think probably McKinna helped Durga a lot.... Conclusion was that Harvard had suffiecient legal ground to not grant Durga a PHD. However, her thesis was not to my satsifaction. I beleive Harvard gives A grades meaning to me to be just average. In any event Durga's dream was to be the first Nepali to hold a PHD from Harvard. She wanted to demonstrate that ego to late King Birendra. Durga was backed bu powerful women's lobby headed by Professor Teresa Amibile of Brandeis University, then there were Professor Faludi and many many more. Did she get PHD for just being the first women to be at Harvard from a poor country ??????????????????? So to me there is no appeal of Harvard for me. It is only a great brand globally. Does big brands provide you satisfaction of the mind ? Not really to me. Even small brands can provide satisfaction to one's mind, Why ? Because, they are very smart.

Dear ramaychowchow, In talking of r.w.'s ramblings and rantings here, you said "Your stories always remind me of Diamond Shamsher's novels..." I was just wondering for a while what this guy's postings remind me of until you mentioned Diamond Shamsher. I think you hit it on the head; all the intrigues, scandals, ties, secret deals have the potential to produce a pot-boiler. He drops enough names and places to be almost believeable, but on second thought you know it must be fantasy; isn't this the perfect receipe for a great novel? I think this guy could produce a 'Seto Bagh' or 'Basanti' for our times. I actually did suggest to him in another thread that he should think about producing a novel. By the way, who was this Mckinna guy?
