The Arab World As an international marketer, I have been so fascinated by the Arab World. The endless stories of Arabian 1001 nights or Ali Baba and the forty thieves or Sindbad the sailor or Laiala Majnu and much more. This world has contributed to nepali language too. I am even more determined to understand the Wahabi/Salafi version of Islam as the bombs are exploding closer to Australia through the hands of Jamai Ishlamiya....I am trying to understand why ? and lots of expert only tell how and what.... Today, I want to make some observations. In historic terms. the Arab world has an eastern wing called Al-Mashrek Al-Arabi (Arab East) and a western Wing called Al-Maghreb Al-Arabi (Arab West). Al-Magreb refers to all the countries west of Egypt, and its modern equivalent is Northern Africa. It includes Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania. Al-Mashrek includes Eyypt and all those countries east of it. The nearest modern equivalent to this is the Middle East although the Middle East includes Iran and Turkey, which are non-Arab. There are clearly a number of distinctions that separate Al-Mashrek from Al-Maghreb and one of the most important ones are dialects. The varios dialects that exist in that region are very difefrent from those elsewhere. The most difficult dialect of all is Algerian dialect as ithas many French words in it followed by Tunisian dialect. Another very important distinction is the indigenous and African flavour that colours and enriches the cultures of these countries in a way that is totally absent elsewhere. Another commonly used regional term is the Levant, and this refers to what Arabs have historically defined as Greater Syria, which includes Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan. The firm Fertile Crescent also refers to the greater Syria whilst on some occassions you will come across Mesopotamia, which actually refers to Iraq. The Arabian Peninsular refers to Yemen, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain. The last six countries are members of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC). The remaining Arab countries that are members of the Arab league are Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia and the Comoro Islands.

Yes, but the western wing is only pseudo arabic, because fact of the matter is they are mostly of berber stock. Berbers and semites are both eastern mediterraneans, but berbers are more mixed up with african types. Ethiopians(Eastern Africa) are intermediate types, and are mostly negroid-caucasoid hybrids. In fact, phenotypically and skeletally speaking, they are more caucasoid than the majority of South Asians. The people from the Levant appear more European. Northern Iraqis like Saddam Hussein could also fit easily in without raising any eyebrows in Southern Europe. People from Saudi Arabia are pretty dark, and some are very conspicuously african looking. Also, let me mention that Australoids can also be found in the arab world, albeit rarely. These would be the Veddoids, the same group found in the subcontinent, although they are more sequestered to South India. Tharus do show some austric influences by the way. The original dravidians were actually of mediterranean stock, and can still be found in Iran and Afghanistan. They speak dravidic languages, although they look more middle eastern than Indian. They are found in Baluchistan, and are called the Brahuis.

Your pseudo Arabic outlining gives a give away that you are another pseudo intellectual, who does not know the Arab World. You have no focus of the region and what is the purpose of bringing Dravidians into the equation. Dravidians in El-Mashrek ??????????????? Arabians in Afganistan and Iran ! What is your source ????????????? I just do not follow your irrationality.

I think you're the pseudo intellectual with no knowledge of what the word "Arab" symbolizes in today's context. Of course there are Arabs in Southern Iran. Everybody knows that. There are arabs almost everywhere in the Muslim world, even Indonesia. I digressed when I brought the Dravidians into this. It was purely for informational purposes.

Digression is the world of quacks and pseudo bullshits just like you. I was talking about the Arab world and that was the content and context of the discourse in terms of the magnitude of this phenomena. You on the other hand again digressing like a fickle minded women brought up insignificant dimension or quantity of Arabs living in diaspora. Why go on tangent ? I led the agenda and no what I am talking....you are just a passer by and want to teach me my own agaenda...how can this be...a slave can never direct his/her own master is the moral of the story to ye today !

Man, talk of an attitude here! But I like people with a quirky attitude, little bit off-center, and rw from down under certainly fits that bill. Let a thousand flowers bloom! SC

If I were to stare on a pile of horse manure, I would probably see Rendra Wasito's image staring back at me. Rendra has no idea what "Arab" in today's context represents, and cannot distinguish fact from fiction, a true example of a self-proclaimed intellectual, who when challenged, only fizzles into a malodorous powdery substance. Your lack profundity, not to mention that you know SQUAT about the Arab world. Keep basking in your pseudo-intellectual front. That's all you're good at. Take a course in Anthropology or Middle-Eastern history, and them come talk to me. Learn the difference between Berbers and Arabs, which to anybody with only a smidgen of knowledge in Middle-Eastern history, would have no problem distinguishing. I hope you're not really a professor, because you would really stink.

This thread is turning out to be quite amazing to watch. RW gives us a lecture. NA politely corrects some errors. RW calls her a pseudo intellectual. She holds up a mirror to his pseudo-intellectual words. He says he is the slave and she is the master... and next thing we know, there's a face staring out of a pile of horse manure...

In this google-dot-com era, I find it tough to distinguish among the intellectuals, the pseudo- intellectuals and the 'cut-and-pasters'.
