"Thank you for visiting Nepal," I said to the gleaming senator also known as Hillary Rodham Clinton who was here this morning at the Mall of America to promote her book Living History. As I stood there bewildered to see the lady in person at such close range I felt as though I was in a different world. "Oh I loved it there! Ive even mentioned it in my book," she responded with a smile. "Yes, I saw the photograph in it," I replied quickly and thanked her and moved towards the exit thus making way for people who were waiting anxiously behind me.

The senator looked radiant and fresh with a smile on her face and a pen in her hand ready to give autographs to hundreds of people who had gathered there since six in the morning. I had reached there at eight and was lucky to have one of the few remaining wristbands which were like a "passport" to enter the zone. Hundreds of people filled the huge Rotunda many of whom were just lucky enough to see her distantly as they didnt have the wristbands but almost everyone who came to the big mall got a glimpse of her and that seemed to be an instant gratification.

Hillary Rodham Clinton has always been an inspirational figure to many of us. Her zealous nature, strong dignified personality, her contribution towards the welfare of her fellow citizens not to mention her courage to withstand the many hurdles be it political or personal and move on with optimism; needless to say all these traits make her a woman of substance and a great leader who we can look up to.

I couldnt believe I waited for five hours for this rare opportunity and despite my sprained ankle while playing basketball yesterday, I was determined to fulfill my wish and so I did and every minute was worth the wait!

I hope she runs for presidency. I'd vote for her. I know she'll make it. Why don't you review the book for us curious folks?

Dilasha,

I couldn't agree more, you're lucky you got the chance to meet this lady, did you get to take a snap? I just loved the way she handled the whole situation during the whole clinton/monica drama.
Biswo Posted on 12-Aug-03 07:58 PM

I liked those two pages about Nepal in her book. She correctly described our cities as 'overcrowded', and I was also happy to see her writing about her experience in Sauraha.

If Howard Dean wins in 2004,she may get a shot at presidency in, say, 2020, right?
nepali_angel Posted on 12-Aug-03 07:59 PM

I have a snap shot with her. I might share it someday with Sajhaites. I also have met Chelsea.

Bill Clinton= the best president ever. Hands-down. Too bad, the right wingers had to undermine his presidency with all that sexual relationship with Lewinsky fracas.
nepali_angel Posted on 12-Aug-03 08:01 PM

Well, if you have been watching O' Reilly, he has been bringing analysts who opine that she might run for presidency if Bush's approval rating keeps going on a free-fall. As far as I can tell, Jr. Bush is going beeline for Sr. Bush's course.
Biswo Posted on 12-Aug-03 08:07 PM

nepali_angel,

At this point, somehow I like Howard Dean more than any other democrat. Hillary has already opted out, and it is good if she opts out and watch the race from the bleacher.
nepali_angel Posted on 13-Aug-03 03:29 AM

Yeah, I like Howard Dean better than anybody else too. But I don't know if being too far to the left is gonna bring in the votes though.

Nepali angel

That'd be great if you shared it with us.
Dilasha Posted on 13-Aug-03 09:01 PM

Nepali Angel, I would've loved to write a review but I'm afraid you'll have to wait as I'm not even half way through the book but I will certainly upload the picture here once I get the film developed. And yes, I too think she'll make a great President and she might definitely consider running for the post in the future. Btw, have you guys seen a "super blooper" where she says "president" instead of "senator" to her audience much to her own embarrasment but she just makes a joke out of it. I think it was some kind of a banquet or a seminar. That was pretty interesting.

Howard Dean? Hmmm I'll have to find more info about him as I'm not familiar with the man. But thanks for mentioning.

Are you all actually glad to read what Hillary has to say about Nepal in her book?
rabinB Posted on 14-Aug-03 06:44 AM

Biswo says: "I liked those two pages about Nepal in her book. "

Those two pages were the only ones I read from her book but I rather disliked it. I thought she was almost patronizing about Nepal - not because of the dismal outlook on Nepal which is true. She quotes Peace Corp volunteers wearing T-shirts with all possible diseases that they contracted while in Nepal. She talks about wanting to talk with the Queen of Nepal on public health issues. Now, nothing could be further from the mind of a Nepali Queen. One could have as much ahve planned to talk with Mother Teresa on deep-sea diving. In short I found her take on Nepal both naive and without any empathy. I wonder why she even bothered to visit us. Perhaps for that elephant ride at Sihara.

I understand a little more why many people (and not just conservatives) find her cold and narcissist.
