I am re-posting what I written earlier in another thread.
I question the notion that the formulation of what is widely known as Pythagorean Theorem can be attributed to the Indians. Using your presentation, Budhayana existed in the 6th century AD. Even if it was BC, that is still off by a margin of close to 500 years.
The following supports my notion:
The Egyptians had known that the earth was round 1500 years plus before the Europeans accepted it. The eureka moment occurred when a scholar from Alexandria, Egypt traveled south towards the source of the Nile. Based on his observations, his sundial showed a decreasing shadow at mid-day as he headed towards the equator.
On returning to his native city considerably north of the equator, he further observed there was a small shadow cast by the central vertical staff of his sundial at the calculated mid-day. His rationale: at precisely mid-day, there ought to be no shadow cast on any sundial on any place on this earth, IFF the earth was flat. Given his observations to the contrary, he concluded the earth had to be round.
Using Pythagorean geometry he calculated fairly accurately the diameter of the earth. That was in Alexandria, Egypt, circa 150 BC. Half a millennia before Budhayana of India.

Sikkim was not an 'invasion' if one were to argue that hordes of invaders didn't shoot loads of opposing forces etc. But if one were to use another definition, Indians in the thousands had invaded Sikkim, the soldiers followed later.
So Sikkim was 'sold' to India by its ruler. Now one wonders if 'sold' is the correct term when one can't quite run over to the nearest supermarket or Neiman Marcus to 'order for delivery' even a smallish size country. [I doubt even UPS wants to take on this shipping job.And just where the heck do you park that sort of thing anyway?]
And how about good ole Yahya Khan and his general's experience in 1970 with the former East Pakistan? Indian troops and tanks 'liberated' the people there to form Bangladesh. No, I suppose that was not an invasion either. So, if one wins, its a liberation movement, if one loses, its an invasion. Yup, Iraq invade Kuwait.
I don't hate India or Indians and have no intent of indulging in Indian bashing. If this was an attempt to do some rabble rousing, I aint taking the bait. What I do dispute, however, is the effort to take baloney and fob it off as fact.

xserver, I admire your guts. Why don't you also simultaneously put:
What is the per capita income of Indians?
What is the literacy rate of Indians?
How many brides are burnt everyday in India?
How many sientist are caught taking Dowry in their marriage?
How many dams are built in Indian border to drown Nepalese families?
Who invaded East Pakistan in 1972?
Who annexed Sikkim in 1975?
Who could not produce any renowned chess player even after inventing it?
Who does not understand value of zero even after inventing it?
Why don't you talk about what good all your sientists, doctors, inventors have done for your own people, your neighbors etc?
Be prudent, and truthful. We all admire India for many reasons, you don't have to come here to rub on people from a peace loving country (OK OK Maoists are anomaly...) and happy going people in our own world. Go away, shu!!!

Ooh la la, big whoop that Indians are oh so successful in the US of A, when their country of origin(India, or Dhotiland as we like to call them) is in big need of someone who can clean up sewage seeping all across their oh so very sensual and mind boggling and beautiful cities. The FAQ that xserver posted is mostly applicable to Indians in North America, i.e. USA, and using this for apotheosizing Indian culture is pathetic at best, not to mention that it shows an emptiness in Indian culture, which can only be filled by basically pilfering other people's ingenuity, by which I mean that Indians in America identify themselves as American, not Indian. Khosla, who graduated from IIT and came to the USA, without a doubt in my mind, is an American citizen, and to do so, he would probably have to renounce his Indian citizenship. Dunno if they make exceptions for characters as successful as Khosla though. But I doubt it. This is Amreeka, and kleptocracy, nepotism, etc ain't gonna be working here. If a celebrity or someone popular commits a crime, expect him to be jailed, unlike in Nepal, where idiots like Paras can be exonerated with merely a flick of a finger.
And no, the value of pi wasn't calculated by Indians. Perhaps they did, but it wasn't exactly the right value. What a baloney. Pi is itself a Greek letter. How could Indians have "invented" it? Fact of the matter is, many mathematicians all around the globe tried to calculate its value, but Greeks were the ones who came closest. But then again, we're living in a Eurocentric world, which is a reason as to why we see so much denunciation. But it's awright, this might be needed, in a way.

The data you have provided shows that you are trying to prove supremacy over an average Nepali. Your posting shows dislike (and I am trying not to use the word hatred) towards a Nepali. If any Nepali had ever offended you I would like to apologize for that person as a Nepali.
You cannot claim all the glory of the Vedas and Ayurveda just as if it is an Indian property. The Vedas and the knowledge belongs to Aryavartha and Aryavartha is not just India. The India in its current form was made by the British, India was fragemnted into small kingdoms. Do you know how big Nepal was before British came to India?? Probably not. There is another discussion going on this board which talks about that. If you like you can find it out. FYI Nepal occupied almost half of India before the British. Now think again what you call to be authentic Indian and start calling on your neighbors. Your neighbors (good neighbors) have always helped you when you were in need. Gorkhas are always upfront protecting your country, now think twice again that you do not want them to turn against you, or do you?

Thanks for your elaborate knowledge about India. There are some questions, which I want to be answered. India was invaded and governed by many invaders from time to time and was enslaved for more than thousand years by Muslims; then by East India Company and then by the British. The British Empire governed the country for few centuries. How a country that was already invaded and ruled by the foreigners could have dreamt to conquer other countries?
A country which has no culture, tradition and heritage of its own which calls itself a secular country; when India assumed power from the British to rule on 15th August 1947. The lust of power was so much powerful in Nehru that they accepted the partition of India on religious grounds. One became Pakistan and other named by the British as Hindustan.
When British conquered India they made India from Hindu Kush to Malaysia and from Sri Lanka to Badrinath. This was the map of British India. British had seen the vast difference in culture and tradition of Burma so they separated it from India in 1935. Passport was not needed for the Indians to go anywhere in British Empire. China and Nepal were the only countries that enjoyed their sovereignty and was never under the British Empire in asian continent. This fact being Nepal a gorkha land the only souvern and independent country by Nehru in his discovery of India.
Where is the glorious heritage you mentioned about India? When and where it remains, is it still there in ruins of the past?
Kutubminar was built by Kutubuddin Aibuk a slave of Mohammad Gori. The slave dynasty was started by him. When Ahmed Shah Abdali invaded India he clearly mentioned that Indian people are born to be slaved, they have no guts to save their country thats why it should never remain independent. Have you read this part of the Indian history where a conqueror makes such a comment?
When British started to leave India due to Second World War when they lost great number of British people. British did not have enough manpower to control their empire. Second world war is the main factor in liberating all the colonies established by the British, Dutch, Portuguese, French etc. At that time British made an excuse and created a great mahatma to save their face who used to carry two sticks (girls) and wore dhoti without undergarments.
Gandhi opposed Subash Chandra Bosh, Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad etc. who fought for the independence of their motherland and sacrificed themselves. Why? India suffered greatest misery in the history when millions of people were butchered and made homeless for the lust of power of these so-called great leaders of India. Who said they liberated India? Is this not a joke and a disgrace?
If you have guts why you did not show the pictures of partition and bloody massacre in all over India and Pakistan. How the people suffered? Massacre, misery and sufferings by millions and millions of people unprecedented in the history of any nation, so far. The misery was even greater which the people in Japan faced in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Pakistan was created as the holy motherland for Muslims and Hindustan for Hindus; Nehrus lust for power forced and prayed Muslim leaders not to leave India and Nehru provided all the Muslim rights and protection for them, which is also an unprecedented example of democratic world. This is the root cause that until now Hindus are deprived to their holy places captured by the invaders who created mosques on them. India has more Muslim population than in Pakistan. This is one of the main reason which forces them to call themselves secular; British also tried to save the Christian population when they were leaving India and urged them to remain instead of taking them to UK. How can you say India is a democratic country when majority of the people have no say and rights to preserve their culture and tradition?
If you read the book written by the civil servants of India naming Smash and Grab , Inside the Raw etc, there are many books written on the same subject if you only search your own local library. It will tell you how Indira Gandhi conquered its smallest neighbor which was under its own protection.

The statement should read:
This fact being Nepal a Gorkha Land that kept the glory of the region for being the only sovereign country which Nehru has also mentioned in his book Glimpses of India.
Last paragraph is about Sikkim. Now India says its part and partial which was a protectorate small country even at the time of the British.
