Join the Anti- Involuntary Disappearance Candle Light Rally coordinated by COCAP, to start at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, 27 August 2003 (10 Bhadra) from the Ratna Park - Bagbazaar crossroads!! Bring along candles for you and others. Please also forward this message to your friends. Bring along your friends. (Ironically, the Father's Day in Nepal coincides this year with the International Day Against Disappearance, 27 August!) According to the UN Annual Report 2002, Nepal was on top of the list of countries with the highest number of involuntary dispapperance, in 2002. The government security forces have disappeared over 500 Nepali citizens and the Maoists have disappeared nearly 300 Nepalis. Both the conflicting parties have threatened the family members and friends, and even local human rights lawyers in many parts of teh country when they have gone to them wanting to know the whereabouts of the people they abducted and arrested. Relatives of the disappered people feel the peace negotiators have not taken the issue of dispappearance seriously. They have requested COCAP, its members and friends to express solidarity with their efforts to find the whereabouts of their beloved ones. The Rally on Wednesday is one of the initiatives of COCAP to make Disappearance a Public Issue in Nepal. Please do not hesitate to contact the COCAP coordination office at 4438799, if you need further information.
