You will have clear idea.

As far as i know, its an assembly formed to create a new constitution, its members drafted in such a way that all constituencies of Nepal are proportionately represented. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong.
Logical Sense Posted on 26-Aug-03 01:13 PM

John doe, perfect.

Also, add my two cents on this: There will be (should be) a referendum to decide on the assembly itself. Which makes it perfect democracy. At this moment people think that the assembly which wrote the current constitution was not 'democratic' because it was hand picked by king and accepted by then party leaders.

Among prominent party leaders I think it is only Girija who is opposing and his point is if we allow the constuent assembly then the Maoist will bring their people by hook or crook during election and then it will be a 'republic' and there will be no room for King. His proposal is just ammend the constitution to accommodate rest of the demands without compromising on king and the multiparty system.

Is not this Irony? Person who vehemently criticizes king is the only Savior of the king? And king has no clue - I think that is why we have a saying - Raja Bheda Huncha. Rajako Chaplusi Garne is ready to take him out, and Rajako Critic wants king....

That is what it is called "Raj_Niti". But the irony is tha all of us think that were are as good a "Raj_Nitigya" as Girija or some one else who has spent all their life doing just that. Not that I support every thing that Girija does. But I do believe that this one person is most capable of handling the situation in Nepal. I wish his Chori and chamcha could get some lession 1 hr a day from Gririja and keep their trap shut for the sake of Nepali.

Oh my God! I cannot believe that there are some Girija fans among us. After what he has done to Nepal and think about what he will do to Nepal if he comes again.

It is a baseless argument that Girija is trying to save the monarchy. Girija is only concerned about himself, trying to save his face, nothing more.

Raja Bheda Huncha re? You are implying that king cannot be a monarch. How can a Bheda be a monarch; and want the most corrupt indian puppet as the leader of Nepal. What an irony...

Thank you all for the info.

I don't see any harm to have new constitution, but what's the point when no one follows the contitution?

If the maoist wants new constituion and people agree why not have one??

Constitution should be written by people with brain, not by some elected a-hole. Like founding fathers of America constitution should be written for the people and by the people. Look at some of the constition assembly in history, two perfect examples. Pakistan and Meghaland(eastern India). Pakistan, flaw in contitution(due to constitution assembly) gave national security officers(military) so much power that most of the last 50 years has been ruled by army. It was due to conflict with India that Pakistan had to have power to military and it end up hurting their own country. Meghaland, to lift the living standard of indegenous people, constitution assembly came up with laws to provide certain quota in government service and educational institue for ethnic group. It worked for few years but other ethnic group got pissed, and that followed ethnic violence. Thousands of Nepalis got kicked out from that area due to flaw in state constitution.
My point is, constitution assembly sounds good and its the only way for nepal to see peace at the moment. But in a long run it may end up being disastrous. I have no trust in those people(elected, if the country goes for constitution assembly) coming out of district with little knowledge about democracy. I would support 100% if they throw the royal institution but I doubt they will be aware about profound effect of free society.
