Thanks Lonelyji, Kalankiji and Sparshaji for writing. I had a picture of some remote villages in my mind when I wrote this piece. The characters, their language and the social settings are a mixture of three villages that I refer, between 25-50 years ago.

What a display of pure village tounge ! Takes me back to the good old villages I am familiar with. But I do not recall if the Magars I knew (in Sindhuli, my Mamaghar) had that accent. That sounds more like the accent of the Tamangs, No ?
Anyway, good to see yet another well narrated realistic village story with a hinted progressivism from the able pen of Gandhi ji.

Had been meaning to read your story for a while now, but have not had a chance to actually sit down and read due to a whilrwind of activities in the last few weeks. Finally New York get together maa saahit jutyo! Mezouii read it aloud for us with action and accent complemented by Poonte dai's explanations here and there. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Truthfully speaking, i don't even know now how to comment on your stories. Just every single one is as rich, as refreshing and quintessentially nepali! Regardless, you know which one is my favorite, right? :) the story that led me to befriend so many of the sajhaites!

I do not mean to take anything away from the spirit of this thread, but your story reminded something that I heard many years ago and couldnot resist the idea of fielding this riddle to others. Gandhiji and Binayji and others,
I think the great thing about Chitwan was the mixture of people from different districts. Although all other major cities may have such mixture, people really don't interact with each other very much there. In Chitwan, because of its rural setting, they do.
So, I had difficulty understanding Baglunge/Parbate language. I also didn't understand a lot of Gorkhali language. And Gorkhali people used to laugh at our language: we call aansi to hasiyaa, bhyaana to bihaana etc. I didn't understand at first when my teacher said 'tyaada' to 'tyahaa baata'. I also had some difficulty understanding Shilanyas of Bhimnidhi Tiwari which is full of Gorkhali dialect.
In Binayji's posting, I didn't know what "Kana Maareko" meant. Thanks for illuminating that, Gandhiji. It sounds like heterogenity (of language) is not that bad.
In this context, historians say Khasa language was originated in Khasi (Kashgar) before it was popularized in Jumla (Sinja Pradesh). Kashgar, a hardscrabble town between Pakistan and Xinjiang province, probably doesn't have anyone who can speak Nepali at all rightnow!

Just finished reading your story. The story reminded me of 'Paribandha.' Did Bhimnidhi Tiwari write it? I must have read that story more than 15 years ago but still haunts me till this day. Your story is a window through which we can have a glimpse of a village life. Deceitfulness seems to be in abundance when people live in close quarters, doesn't it?

Paribanda was written perhaps by Pushkar Shamsher. But I am not so sure about this.

Biswo and NK, I believe PARIBANDA was written by Pushkar Lohani.
Gunraj, couldnot have any better explanation than what you described there. Just like Biswo, I also had no clue about "kan mareko tamase goru." My guess was something like "kahin nabhako garu," but your narrations sound more logical. Yes, I am always amazed with the variety of dialects that I have come across in Nepal, especially in places like Chitwan where people from all over the country have migrated in the last forty years. Some common lingos that I heard almost two decades ago are still stuck on my mind. I guess you have also heard this as well: Ptf8L uP lxnf8L ptf8L uP km\of6km\of6\ (yetadi gaye hiladi utadi gaye phyatphyat).
Hehe.. that was funny. Bas le ta tarsayo tarsayo, ti bharkhar cyle chalauna jaane budha dai harulai ta kukur le pani lakhatera hariran pariko dekhda ramailai huntho... Chitwan ko cycle.haru bare kura garne ho bhane saano tino katha sangraha nai banchha....
