Can you please tell me what areas are controlled by the Maoists? Where is the majority support ? If 2/3 of rural Nepal is controlled by them, then where is that? What about the Urban spawls of the Terai? Where are their target areas now?
Biswo Posted on 27-Aug-03 11:45 AM

Hey Nepe,

Did you use ArcView to make that map. Good Work man.

crazyeyez Posted on 28-Aug-03 09:08 AM

awesome. thanks biswo for the info , and nepe , for putting it together!!
zero_creativity Posted on 28-Aug-03 09:38 AM

Good job by two prominent figure of Sajhaland.

Two disrticts look strategic important for Royal Nepal Army.
1.Dang
2.Siraha

If Army can control Dang it will reduce Maoist activities in West Siraha for East in a similar manner. These districts are conneted to India. RNA is not able to gain anticipated success not beacuse of lack of tranning or technology but incapable person in a decesion making position.

who is biswo honestly and why should we believe in what he has to say? is he traine din stats and political science and has he travelled all over nepal to come up with this data?
just curious!
Biswo Posted on 28-Aug-03 10:42 AM

IF,

I told everyone not to take this as scientific data. Read the last sentence of mine. I have claimed that there is no scientific truth in them. These are raw data.

Yes, I have travelled quite a lot when I was in Nepal. I have met a lot of people. My classmates and friends are in both the Maoists, and Army/Nepal Police .Rather than just questioning this list, why not you come up with some counter example? I am prefectly willing to accept them.
isolated freak Posted on 28-Aug-03 10:43 AM

Thank you, friends, for your appreciation to my small effort to present Biswo ji's data graphically in the map. I did it quickly by downloading a map and then filling colors using Adobe Photoshop. I thought accuracy is not an issue here so I did not check for the errors and omissions.

I was myself curious how it would look in the map. I am sure many Sajhaites will be seeing this kind of imagery for the first time and will be shocked to realize herdaa herdai how a handful of Maoists grew to become so powerful.

As Biswo ji had already disclaimed and made it clear that the data may not be complete and fully accurate. So that is not the issue. The issue is, does it represent the reality of the ground ? I think it, at least qualitatively, shows the actual situation in Nepal.

This image has become kinda Tashbir aafai bolchha. No room for denial. No room for Al Sahafism.

The question of our immediate and long term future is undoubtedly the most important one. However, it is worth questioning who is responsible for such a dramatic growth of the Maoists ? Of course the Maoists themselves. But those in the establishments who failed to gauge the strength and weaknesses of the Maoists are responsible too. Particularly Nepali version of Al Sahafs in the establishments in past 6-7 years who continuously dismissed the Maoists and misled the people by misfeeding the misinformation and denial are not to be forgotten and forgiven.

I am not saying that if we get rid of Al Sahafs, everything will be alright. It won't. Because Al Sahafs are the natural product of a certain system. So long as the system remains, they are like the head of Mahi-ravana. You cut off one head, another will grow.

The map above is indeed a terrifying one. But we can't afford losing sense and give in to Al sahafs for a mere temporary false relief.

We have our secure future in cool thinking and courage to get out of all kind of denial we have been living until now.

Only the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth can save us. Anything less, and we are into an imaginable trouble.
