Hey guys,
I am on F-1 status and going to school. I have been taking full course load for fall 2002, spring 2003 and summer 2003. I was planning to take Fall 2003 off but my international student advisor tells me that I have to take fall and summer semester that I can take off. I thought I could take one semester off if I went to school for 2 continous semester.
Does anyone have any information in this area?

what i was trying to say was .. my international student advisor told me that i can not take fall off .. the only semester i can take off is summer.. Is this true?

As far as my knowledge goes, yes you can take summer off and not Fall or Spring and since you were told by your international advisor, I think you should listen to her/him, no one else would know better about your Univ. than your advisor.
good luck and if taking off during fall is not possible, please don't go for it. wait till summer if you can.

You could have taken summer off but I don't think you can take fall or spring off. Your adviser sounds right to me.

Can't take a regular semester off otherwise you will be out of status. The only way you can take a semester off is either for medical reasons (u stay in US) or you leave the country and go back to Janani Janma Bhumischya. ya na wam sayin brotha?

Yes, you cannot take a semester off and remain in the US... BUT you can take a semester off and go anywhere else in the world as far as the US is concerned. Just be sure that your reentry visa, your funding for the semester when you want to restart your studies, and thus your I-20 will be in in good shape...

There .. Arnico has the best option for you.
So, you either take fall + spring semesters or go out of the USA. Do you have five year multiple visa? In that case, you won't have to worry about reenty. Otherwise, if you go ahead and skip fall semester, you will go out of status.

If you go out of US for a semester Don't forget to take your transcript with you, which should be in good shape. If you plan to remain here, just take full time classes, these days BCIS is more strict than you think.
