The soldiers were part of patrols sent from Rolpa district headquarters Liwang and Dang district to intercept large group of Maoists assembling in Holeri late yesterday night. The Maoists were reportedly heading towards Dang district.

The Maoists were intercepted Thursday morning and resulted in exchange of fire. The firing lasted for a couple of hours before Maoists fell back. Security sources said there were no army casualties in that incident.

Khadka quoted security sources as saying the second clash occurred in the evening when soldiers pursued the Maoists. The second clash is reported to have been heavy and lasted several hours. Casualties are expected, although no firm figures are available as yet.
Security sources say the Maoists are now at Chattredanda and the security forces are reportedly facing some difficulties engaging the Maoists who now occupy higher grounds. (rk)
