A Who's Who of sajhaites gathered in New York this Labor Day weekend to create enchanting moments and lasting memories. The camaraderie was incredible and 'Friendship' was a word that gained new meaning.

Effortless blending of a smogarsboard of personalities created enchanting moments. A non-stop party that featured electrifying musical performances and rib tickling laughter. Bravura performances in everything from volleyball to the dance floor.

All of this coalesced around a special person, whose warmth and grace embrace all who met her: Najar

Graciously hosted by AX (aka Gintang) and Poonte, whose tireless hours of hard work made all this possible. A vote of thanks to the gentlemen. A special mention to Oys, the indispensable brother who cheerfully put in many hours to make it happen.

I reckon this gathering of minds may yet become legend in the annals of Sajha history. To have lived the indescribable magic, like Woodstock, you just had to be there.
bisun Posted on 01-Sep-03 03:34 PM

Due to an unavoidable circumstance, I could only attend the extravaganza for a few hours last night. But even though I was there only for a few hours, I came out with memories that are certain to make me smile for years.

A millions of thanks to the organizers. It was a great success. I am sorry I missed the earlier parts of it.

Biswo Posted on 01-Sep-03 03:59 PM

czarji,

surely sounds like a great gathering! Great to know that you guys enjoyed it.
czar Posted on 01-Sep-03 06:24 PM

Biswo,

Verily so, we had ourselves a good ole blast. It's been my opinion that sajha has brought together a global group of outstanding Nepali folk. This weekend of interaction with nearly 20 of them has strenghtened my position on this.

While many of the participants are still en route to their abodes at the time of this writing, I present some highlights of the personalities.

- Prem Pujari's singing abilities match his way with words. A singing, dancing, guitar playing dervish. He can belt it out like the pros. If his culinary capabilites are anywhere near as good as his other accomplishments, he's the catch of the season. Gals, up periscope, if he hasn't already overwhelmed your radars. Must be elixir in that paani tyanki he speaks of!

- Eminem, smoooooth operator, a feller who lends credence to the notion that looks can be deceptive. Lady killer par excellence.

- Rusty, well now, aint nothing rusty about his singing with his perfectly pitched contralto. I tell ya, he'd give that Kishore Kumar feller a run for his money.

- Trikal darshi, Master of the dohori, composes and belts out verses on the fly. Accurately reads your future and past just by looking at you. If this is unnerving, wear a mask, gloves and socks at all times when around this man. Impeccable wit.

- Mez, the original voice of the country, makes one nostalgic just to hear him sing verse after verse of hills and dales, of lost and future loves. Then he ups and dances till you drop just from watching him ! He's an accomplished sportsman, and a sporting fellow too. One who gave the shirt off his back for sajha. Literally so. In one heroic dive, his shirt ripped to shreds by the move, this man dove to save point in the do-or-die volley ball match.

- Meddle, he's the dude who's gonna play guitar and jam all nite. Oh yea, and when he's done with that, he'll speak of things that will take your mind on a trip round the dark side of the moon and back. Dangggggg it all !

- Danggg, ready for any adventure, anytime. Conniseur of fine cuisine. Enthusiastic athlete, singer, hell raising wicked humour and an impetuous zest for life and learning. The original live wire !

- Poonte: one man entertainment industry. Yup, industry. Anything less doesn't even come close to describing it. Creates a live visage of our rustic countryside with his eclectic, original and authentic performances of a gainey. A must watch experience for anyone that appreciates Nepali music.

Due to a technical problem, I now take a break before I continue with my labors. [The technicality being my chair's inability to continue supporting my weight after that gargantuan meal consumed earlier today.]

Meanwhile, partygoers, if possible, do kindly check into this thread to let us know you made it home safe and sound. It was grand to have you all here.
Arnico Posted on 01-Sep-03 07:38 PM

We're not home yet, but decided to report our present location... just past Framingham, MA. Eminem, Dangg, Rusty and I are sitting in Trikal's internet enabled astrology-learning winged Mercedes Benz flying east on I 90. Earlier this evening we lost and found the oil cap (Trikal had predicted a dark future for that piece of plastic!), and dropped off SimpleGal. I am the next one to be ejected from the vehicle, before the rest of the singers fly north to New Hampshire.

Bringing you this live report, aja lai bida gardai, Arnico.
Arnico Posted on 01-Sep-03 07:42 PM

Of course we would all like to thank the hosts and organizers for their terrific job in pulling the whole thing together. In particular, our thanks go to Poonte, Ax, Czar, Bikas (new sajha member), as well as Bhauju.

- Trikal, Rusty, Dangg, Eminem, Arnico.

Czar Brother, ba ba ba! Hazur ko kura ta garnai baaki cha!! Actually I run out of the words since my limited memory is filled up with countless wonderful moments we had in NYC. I miss you guys, and all the wonderful people I met there in NYC!!

Thanks to Czar bro, AX bro and dai broooo Poonte dai for everything (absolutely everything) they had done in order to make every moment wonderful. It was true ExtraVaganZa.

Just to let you guys know that I am home, safe and sound... and so is a friend of mine k0201... and of course Oys (unless oys tripped over some beautiful freshman, right after we dropped him off :))).

Will write more later!!!

**Missed an oppertunity to say bye to San, Simpuuuu and Mukta, and I am really sorry about that!!
czar Posted on 01-Sep-03 10:01 PM

It is not every day that one meets a person with a profound intellect, impeccable manners and a calm serenity that leaves a lasting impression on all. Arnico is such a person. But within that calm exterior also resides a a keen sportsman, enthusiastic dancer and willing singer. In short, he has my vote as the man for all seasons.

Oys, is a marvel who was on his feet for 48 hours straight, all the whilst putting in lots of hard work n cheerfully. We were all the richer for his lively spirit. Then he goes on to sing and dance tirelessly. Can he party or can he party !! I tell ya, some high octane jungle juice mysteriously found its way into his alimentary canal and ignited!! He's dynamite !

Lest anyone begins to feel I've spoken nary a word about les femmes, tis just that I'm leaving the best for last. Assuredly, twas a privelege and honour to meet up with such a fine group of ladies.

But before that, I take time for a special word of thanks to none other than San da Man. He put in many hours in a long trip to share a special day with us all. My appreciations to San. For not only joining us in the festivities, but for providing the means that brought us all together.

Now how does one describe intelligent, articulate, sensitive and beautiful all in one package ? That'd be Simple gal, the fair damsel. Nope, she ain't in distress, but those with pacemakers might find them devices kicking into overdrive. Sociable too. Heck, she convinced me to take a crack at dancing, n that takes even more doing than getting me to cook. [An I might have suceeded too, it weren't for my two left feet.]

She's graceful, a considerate guest, friendly and enjoyed a good song. Knew some beautiful songs too. I refrain from taking her name at this juncture as I dont know her sajha nom de plume yet. Still, glad you made the effort to come by.

Now I've met quite a few people in my time. But its a rare few who have the ability to mix with everyone, all age groups. She sets you at eas and brings forth the social being in those around her. Gentle by nature, articulate and intelligent in her conversations and writing. A special person, the raison d'etre for this gathering. I speak here of Najar. An exceptional young lady whose charm and easy nature suffused the weekend with joy and enjoyment. Twas a pleasure meeting you and I join all the others in wishing you much success and joy now and in future.

To Gintang and Poonte: a vote of of thanks for the many hours of hard work to make this all possible. Excellent and generous hosts, you made this a memorable weekend for all.

Finally,it was a pleasure and privelege to have met you all. I look forward to meeting you all in future. Cheers !

WOW! WOW!
I did miss out the extravaganza, I knew the day I received the invitation.
Thus, was waiting in earnest for the details about it and thanks to CZAR ji for bringing forth with such meticulousity. I've been following the sajha threads for more than 18 months by now and your personality division had transformed the imaginary configurations that I had about them people into a concrete sculpture.

Ke garne abhagi khappar ma nalekhya kura, rahaar garera matrai napugne, :-((
Oys_chill Posted on 02-Sep-03 07:26 AM

Czar bro,

thank you for your concern and such a flawless recollection of one of the "hedonic primer" experiences of my life. I'd like to thank gini bro, poonte dai, and czar bro for organizing such an improbable event.

There isn't much left to say as Czar has so vividly described every one of the incredible sajhaites. I had personally not witnessed such a gathering of diverse talents. czar bro, thanx for taking so much time in collecting different songs. Personally, would like to jam up again in that love potion no. 9. ;)

I'd also like to thank kalankistan and k0201 SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH for dropping me back. I don't know how long it would have taken by bus. SOrry for the inconvenience I caused. OH I did tip over some freshmen, they were no where close to NYC sajhaites re kya ajha ;).

A special mention to 0u812 and sitara for their calls. We did miss you. Another special mention of GUNARAJ DAI whose story of THULO BAA was read to few of us by Mez bro, with the typical accent. It was one of the best works I have read in sajha. Reminded me a lot of guru prasad mainali. Deep, Jira, Marich and Bella(DCHHH) were missed as well.

As tired as I was (common now, tired is an understatement here), I limped to 8'0clock this morning. For those of you who missed this past weekend hmm....like czar bro said, U HAD TO BE THERE TO KNOW WHAT U REALLY MISSED. As of now, you can only wish that u can be part of such a gathering in future and I can bet anything that its not gonna be anywhere close to what it was this past weekend.

I have finally begun to realize family goes well beyond blood lines. :) I thank sincerely to all who were there who made this possible.

Yours one and only,
Oys (Sajha_Pet ^-^)
AX Posted on 02-Sep-03 08:10 AM

This weekend was one of the finest moments in my life, with all credit to Sajha. I would like to thank all frens who were involved with it. It was great to see so many Sajhaities all under one roof. I would also like to thank Najar's good fren Sujata Rai for entertaining us with her electrifying musical performance on Sunday nite.

YEP.........
I was snapped back to reality this morning, as i walked to class at 8. Looking around, i saw mostly unfamiliar faces, about the same experience i had when i got to NY saturday morning. The similarity, however, ended there. Today, I have little hope of spending one of the most unforgetable weekend with any of them.
Yep, unforgetable would be the understatment of the century.......and people those who are a lot better with words have already described the experience, and very accurately so.
I would like to add something, though. I dont think anyone would disagree when i say that czar has described everyone there most accurately (although i seriously doubt mine), he forgot one person................one guess????.............himself.
So, allow me to do the honors, although i would never be able to do this as accurately...

Czar,
I person so full of knowledge it kept spilling out every once in a while, and those lucky enoughto be around got a few drops on them, from a very vast ocean. Although among the most hard working and helpful person i met this weekend, he prefers to have the spotlight on somebody else.

Once again, Thanks again for everyone for making me feel so welcome right away, despite the fact that i was an unexpected guest.

Shady

Gunaraj Posted on 02-Sep-03 08:42 AM

I missed it! I had a standing invitation to visit NYC/DC from Poonte and Mez for a long time. I had thought that I would visit them for labor weekend (though it never got materialized due to the repeated surgeries to remove my kidney stones). I had sadly RSVP'ed Prempujari's invitation to Poonte (as he asked to do so).

Glad to know that I was a part of the program through my story. Thanks OYS to mention it. Mez, you got it. It was typical Tanunge accent that I had heard all my childhood (a little too far South from your home, though).

You people are great. Hope there will be another around the corner for Thanksgiving.

The sajha extravaganza was a superb mixture of comaraderie, friendship, leadership, spirit, openness, talent and fun. Everyone who came were really cool. Everything went so smoothly. It was really such an amazing weekend especially since most of us were meeting each other for the first time. It was really marvelous how smoothly the virtual friendship transitioned into real friendship on the very first meeting.

It was such a pleasure to meet all of you. Thanks to Poonte, AX and Czar for being such gracious hosts. Your graciousness is indeed heartfelt. Poonte is definitely one of the best cooks I have encountered. The food was so good. The company scintillating. The vibe was pretty awesome. Surely to be awake till 4 am two nights in a row, speaks volumes about the company!

It was such an honor to meet up with so many of you. Thanks to everyone for making this such an memorable event. Thanks to all other Nepalis from New York that I had the pleasure of meeting as well. It was nice to see people from different Nepali communities coming together to create such a vibrant environment.

It was good to see that sajha was successful in bringing together "COOL" Nepali People this weekend in NYC. Thank you so much for inviting.

Best wishes,
San

Now that i have had a chance to get a good hours of sleep, how could i resist stopping by this thread, although all that needs to be said has already been said!

As the aforementioned posters acknowledged, the eventful weekend and the individuals could not have been better expressed than Czarji, who is one of the most humble and knowlegeable gentlemen i have had the pleasure to meet. The due credit goes equally to him, who worked hard behind the scene in making this event a great success!

Enjoyed every single moment of it! My legs still hurt from playing volleyball, frisbee soccer, and all night jamming up esp on "Jab chhaye teraa jaadoo, kohiii bach na paaye" and "Yo maun ta mero nepali ho" and ofcourse all other talents put forth by an amazing group of people gathered under one roof.

My hats off and a standing ovation to teh key organizers-- Czar, Ax aka gennie and my pran bhanda pyaro Poonte dai. You gentlemen were truly impressive. Special mention goes to Poonte bhauju, Bikash, and ofcourse a gifted artist, my good friend Sujata who captured teh sajha/nonsajha audience by her amazing voice. The New York crowd gave up their taas to join us upon her electrifying performance. NOw, isn't that something? Sujata sends hi to all and says she enjoyed meeting teh sajhaites!

Our Kalankisthan was no short of multiple talents contrary to his own speculations. My preparation in unfreezing to get him to talk simply went in vain :P

I can go on and on regarding each of the amazing people i had the privilege to interact this weekend, but considering what has been alreadybeen said above suffice to say--It was a pleasure putting teh face and the name together to some sajhaites while it was just as fun seeing the other sajhaites again.

Truly a memorable weekend that will cherish my memories for a long time!

ps.-----eminemmmmmm, how are youuuu? :p :)

and my dear pbpb Oys--bore bhayo ni, what happened to our top task on teh agenda? that went untouched, undetermined, no? :)

And last but not teh least, shall be awaiting to see how Trikal Baa's (borrowed term from PP) speculation goes, teh only two things he said! :)
kalankisthan Posted on 02-Sep-03 10:06 AM

The only two people I had ever met from chat were Poonte dai and Oys, and the meeting was brief. Rest of the people in that party was just another sajha screen name for me. As a friend of mine (K0201) and I reached Ax's house, we called him up and instantly, there were bunch of sajhaitites at the door to greet us. For a moment I felt like a dream, something like I didn't know any of them and yet, all of them knew me. I was stunned. Two seconds later they were all familiar -- hugging us, hoding us, greeting us as if we were some long lost friends. We came downstairs and the room was filled with more sajhaities. We were really overwhelmed by the warm welcome. Another two seconds later, we felt like were were in the room full of best of the friends (yes, best friends. I met Rusty for the first time and the moment I met him, I went "ta-ta ra ma-ma" with him). And, the rest of the moments with them proved that they were indeed the best -- the coolest people I've ever met in this planet.

And I met Czar bro, a true gentleman to the core, a well organised, industrious, a guitar genius and what not. A gentleman he is, he offered us the first drink of the night, and we were delighted. Like eminem said, he prefers to have the spotlight on somebody else, although the spotlight was always on him. ( I am still humming "hello" and "take it easy"!!).

more later... ;)

This weekend Experience at the Sajha Extravaganza was an eye opening and mesmerizing experience for me...For all of those who don't know me, I was one of the non Sajha guests attending the Party in NYC. My name is Bishal, I am SimpleGals brother..for those of you who remember...The love, camaraderie and "Nepalipan" that I saw even after countless bottles of beer lodged in my head, was one that will forever remain in my book of memories...It was so terrific that I decided to join Sajha and be an active part of this wonderful community of nepalis from various spectrums of the globe..of differrent colors and personalities who have all come together in unison..because they share that one big thing in common...they are all proud Nepalis...This energy was thoroughly evident at the gathering and I could see the love and care in everybodies eyes...This love is so important at a time when our country is going through so much... I would like to thankthe Organizers of this event Anil dai, Sunil Dai, Czar Dai, and whomever I forgot to mention, because I don't know everybody yet..for their hospitality and impeccable hosting...and all the sajha boys and girls..This ones for the Heart..from the Heart..see you all soon...

I was planning to head back to school from NYC on Friday afternoon. With a heavy heart, of course. Who likes the idea of going "back to school" after the summer vacations? I certainly would not raise my hand in favor! But fate had something wonderful in store for me in the form of the Sajha Extravaganza as the best kind of "sending off" imaginable.

Before going any further, I want to congratulate the hosts of this magnificent event---Poonte dai, AX dai, and Czar dai---for their dedication, love, warmth, and tireless efforts at ensuring everyone's safety and comfort. You guys deserve a round of applause from everyone! You were truly the TRIDEV of the party! Thanks also to Bikas dai and Oys bhai for their generous work.

I agree with previous posters that no one could have rendered a more accurate portrayal of the sajhaites at the party than our dear Czar dai. You have showered the kindest words for me, dai. As I was saying to a friend last nite, Czar dai was the Omnipresent one at the party whose benevolence knew no bounds. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the kindness you showed me in that hour of need!

Czar dai has sketched the personalities of the people at the party. I take the liberty of recounting some of the events at the party.

Saturday:
I arrived at AX dai's place with Poo dai in the late afternoon. Mez and Oys were already there. Rusty, Trikal, Eminem, Dangg, Meddle were across the East River with Czar dai, marveling at the magnificent skyline of Manhattan, I was told. Poonte and AX dais were here now and there next, doing every thing from making the excellent achar for momos to cracking jokes, to chatting on sajha. Najar entered about 1/2 hour later to the loud cheering from us all. In a few moments, we saw Poonte dai sitting crosslegged across from us and chopping onions like a true chef. Not a single drop of tear fell from his eyes, mind you! Najar and I, on the other hand, who were quite far from the onions were not spared from the vicious vapors. It being the evening of Teej, Najar and her friend Sujata had to leave briefly for a puja amidst many protests from all of us who refused to let her out of our najar, as it were.

Before long, the "gaun bata shahar ghumna aaeka" people (to borrow their own terms) returned from their trip. Apart from Rusty, I hadn't met with the others. However, like Kalanki said, it seemed as if we were all long lost friends! Everyone introduced him/herself with a combo of his/her sajha and non sajha names. The effect was amazing! Soon everyone starting pouring into the apartment. Everyone was in great anticipation for the "arrival" of the evening---that of Kalankisthan aka PremPujari aka Braced aka Stu. Whew! Talk about Multiple Personalities. The only difference was that they all converged into one wonderful person.

Yes, it was really good time to know nepali sajha community. It was ending to the beginning. It was beginning for summer festivals but it was beginning of our true nature of one bond of nepali and its importance.

Poon dai and Gini Sir great work and thanks for all.

"Maanche haru le paisa tirera ni yesto ramailo garna paaundainan, yaar...kasto moj bho aaja...Poonte, your Sajha is the best, man!," yelled one of my non-Sajhaite friend from NY with a huge...daanya kaan dekhi baanya kaan samma chyatiyeko mukh liyera...while Kalanki was rocking in the front with his excellent voice and Sharukh-istyaal dancing!

Need I say more?

What I experienced this past weekend was beyond words--perhaps the best ever weekend in my entire life! I have enjoyed different parties very much every now and then, but to have enjoyed EVERY single minute of EVERY hour of three consecutive days (lest 3-4 hours each night that I was trying to catch up on sleep) is truly quite, for the lack of a better word, AMAZING! Geet-seet, dohori, BBQ picnic, volleyball, naach-saach, guff-suff, maatra hoina...yesso aankha kholda arko Sajhaite ko jyan aagadi dekhdaa ni aananda aaune...damn!

The weekend was a huge success because each and every Sajhaite who made it to NY brought with him/her a true spirit of friendship, kindness and FUN! Aek thopa pani daag nalaagnu...naramro bhaneko kurai nahunu...pani ho ta? Meribassaaiiii...I LLLLLLLOVE YOU ALL! I MISS YOU ALL!! I...I...I...I wanna singai kwappai, ghuklukkai nilo you all!!!!!!

Few moments that stand out when I reminisce the lovely weekend:

--RUSTY's truly amazing voice...sounded soooo soothing even without the music...
--Of course, KALANKI's mesmerizing performance...both singing and dancing...
--MEZ's maadal ko taal in "Mohani Laagla Hai"...
--MEZ and Trikaal's dohori...
--CZAR...you little modest rascal! :P It wouldn't have been as fun if you weren't there! Guitar chaai janmindai bhirera janmeko jasto chha ni? Meddle pani!
--SUJATA jyu...Asha Bhosle? Ko Asha Bhosle? Chindaina ma Asha Bhosle-sosle! Haamri Najar ki sangeni Sujata laai matra chinchhu! Najar, my muri muri, paanch sai wata doko bhari ko dhanyabaad to her!

Aru kei chhutya bhaye maaf!

Now that it all went so well, I am htinking of making this an annual event. Sajha Convention, anyone?
ashu Posted on 02-Sep-03 06:02 PM

Sounds like you guys had had a lot of fun.
Thanks for the descriptions.

Strange, and oddly inspiring, isn't it . . . a Web site bringing so many people
together!!

Czar, I agree with what you have said about Arnico. But let me add this: As
someone who has known him for over a decade, I have always counted on him for straightforward, honest and unflinching advice and suggestions on many things, and
I have never been disappointed. He is one remarkable, good-to-the-core human being.

San, how about putting a caption beneath that photo saying: L to R, with people's
Sajha names? I recognize only you, Arnico and the unimitably great Poonte. By
process of elimination, I can guess who Najar and Simplegal are . . . but that's
about it.

Poonte dai,
The last I heard there were quite a few votes for holding a sajha convention not ONCE a year but TWICE a year -- a Winter sajha convention and a Summer sajha convention. Once a year seems TOOOOO long to wait. What do others say???

We too had our mini-Sajha extravaganza in KTM not too long ago, didn't we?
Hope you are doing well on that island. And my best wishes to you for your success!!

Aye, aye, Capn Simple, I vote with you on the bi-annual schedule. It increases the odds of people making at least one of the gatherings.

Ashus words add yet more weight to my view of Arinco as the the Man for all Seasons.

As to the pictures, I have strong reservations about listing names. It may yet be but a matter of time before everyone figures out the identities of the people in the picture. Still, I ,for one, prefer to hang onto whatever shreds of anonymity I can still cling to.
Poonte Posted on 02-Sep-03 06:22 PM

My sincere apologies to anyone who received the invitation late, who otherwise might have been able to make it to the get-together. I was working an average of 16 hrs/day until about 4 days before the long weekend, hence some inefficiency on my part on sending out the invitations on time.

We were also aware of the fact that many in the guest list lived far from NY--some even oceans away--and that many of them would not be able to make it; however, we wanted to extend the invitations any way just so that we would let you know that some of us have come to love you, admire you, and respect you.

In the long and tedious process of searching through Kurakani threads, finding (nick) names, clicking on those names, clicking on "send email"s, copying and pasting the invitation, and then finally sending them out, we might have missed some names that we would otherwise liked to have invited. Two names stand out in my mind as of now on this regard: DEEP and NK; perhaps I will reckon a few more as days go by. My apologies.

BISWO and RUCK: Your invitations were returned to me--your e-mail addresse(s) in Sajha seemed to have been non-functional.

Many thanks especially to GINTANG, aka AX and CZAR for all the help that they provided to make it all not only possible, but a truly memorable event.

Many more thanks to EVERYONE who made it to NY--some 20 of them--for making the effort to travel many miles and make us all feel like we live in a wonderful world, and that we all are a family after all.

For those who missed it, and wish you were there, not to worry...TRIKAAL GURUJI LE MARJI BHAA...MERO THULO KHAPPAR MA YESTO JAM GHAT HARU AAYOJANA GARNE KARMA ARU PANI THUPRAI CHHAN RE! Feri feri pani moj gardai garamla ni....budheshkaal ajhai kalilai chha kyara...ke bho ra? ;)
czar Posted on 02-Sep-03 06:30 PM

poste script: Capn Simple, do continue with your recollections.

All of the other party goers are invited to share their stories/experiences of the events and this weekend.

My sincere appreciations to everyone for their kind words. Awwww, shucks. :)

N SuziQ, you awesome Diva you... I am looking forward to your upcoming CD. If you'd just give me a hint on the launch date/event I would be very pleased to attend. Also, I need to get a headstart to stand in line for your autograph and buy your CD, natra feri all your fans will trample me and ani me ta chillai hola bhanney dar cha.
Poonte Posted on 02-Sep-03 06:35 PM

Ah! There I go! See what I mean?

Now that I've noticed him posting, allow me to add ASHU on the mistakenly forgotten list. ASHU, for the time and remarkable effort that you have given to making us all aware of many things happening in Nepal--inspite of your busy schedule--thereby making us all feel at home away from home, you absolutely deserved our token of admiration, love and respect: the invitation! I shall not forget to put you in the top of the guest list next time :)

Bhunte, too...I hope you received it--the email was not returned to me, but didn't hear back from you either!
bhunte Posted on 02-Sep-03 07:03 PM

Ashu, Thanks! I really had wonderful time meeting and sharing views with you and IF, but I couldn't make up the second meeting as something came up suddenly. I am also amazed with your outstanding works there. I had good time in Ktm with relatives and friends, but couldn't see all of them during my very short trip there after many years.

Poonte, timi kaha harayeko? Ma ta timi sajha sanyas liyeko ho ki bhanera yeha ekdam chhat pati raheko thiye...Again, I didn't receive your e-invitation. I will try emailing you. I have more information about G---ma. I wanted to knock your Sasurali ghar's gate but didnt dare to do that fearing your salis may charge me as maobadi...eheheh

Hi Guys,
Phewwwwww...Finally, got chance to jot down a few words in this thread. First of all, I would like to thank Gintang (AX), Poonte, and Czar for hosting such a wonderful and memorable party. I was indeed amazed to see our sajha fellows, whom I never expected to meet like that. We partied three days in a row, but I never got tired of Poonte's eternal humor and jokes; my ears never got tear up by enthralling dual performance of Prem Pujari(Kalanki).....On the other hand, I was amazed to see Gintang(AX), whom I'd known for three years but I never had an opportunity to meet phisically. I would say that he is sajha model of endurance, serenity, and smile.

Well, I wanna write one or two sentences for those who I met for the first time.

Poonte: needless to say...man of hilarity. did you see how good I am about keeping my promise. How did you feel when I actually kissed on your bald head:P Sad news that all your remained hair turned white after my kiss:P It was such a heart breaking moment for us when I had to leave you;)

PremPujari: wow..wow..Lady enchanter..how many names do you have? Braced, Stu, Prem Pujari, Kalankisthan, and recentely found out name "Soul Free":p If we're wearing name tag at the party, you would probably need a "mala" of name tag:P I cannot believe that the minute we saw each other, we started talking like tole ko gucha keldai hurkeko saathi... well, you're simply an awesome guy --with multiple talents, especially of entertaining and magnetizing girls. I wish I would have at least one of your talents;)

Czar: awesome man with manifold knowledge and intelligence. His gigantic knowledge past any compares. I will always reminisce your guidence and description on core streets of Manhattan, the financial center of the world.

Meddle (Soliel): the man who sees *half filled* bottle whenever he's walkin on the dark side of moon:P However, I agree with what he said, what you see maynot be real or the whole truth.... Was Neil Armistrong really was the first person to step on the moon as they proclaim? I also sometimes become haywired when this hallucination encircles me:P Maybe we should put an open forum regarding this subject matter....

Mez: you're absolutely amazing person.. a real athletic person. You really turned out to be a real nice person as those girls described about you.

More later....

Poonte,

just wondering if you have received my message via sabai ko sajha....
SimpleGal Posted on 03-Sep-03 11:57 AM

Recollections Contd.

Saturday:
Well, the much awaited arrival of Kalanki was an extravanganza in itself. Along with him was his buddy KO210--handsome, strapping young lads both of them. Kalanki waved at me from above the throng that gathered around him for his dibya darshan. I was flattered to be the recipient of his exclusive waving, with my cheeks turning pink, re kya ajha. "Eh, Simpuuu, chini hale ni timilai," he called out. After a while, PP jyu was nowhere to be found. It seemed his HUGE fan had engulfed him somehow!!

San Maharaj ko sawari was next. And boy, you should have seen the fanfare that accompanied his royal arrival--it was befitting the King of Sajhapur that he is! I was also in line to bow respectfully to his majesty San da Man. But oh so down to earth his majesty was with his fellow sajha basis!!! He sat down with the rest of the gang and made momos with such artistic flair that it took everyone's breath away. Poonte dai brought the chutney around for everyone to taste it and pronounce their verdict, which was a unanimous "Khatara chha."

Soon we could hear the melodious madal playing by Mez and Trikal guru and the first round of dohori began. Earlier, Poonte dai had refused to show his dancing skills until his pyaro Kalanki had graced the venue of the party. "Uh hunh, Kalanki na aye samma ma nachdai nachdina ketaho!" he emphatically proclaimed. Now there was no stopping Poonte dai!!! Kalanki accompanied him as well and the dance floor created amidst the opposing dohori teams was on fire!!!! The dohori songs were on the tune of "Paan ko paat, maya timlai samjhinchhu din ko raat....." with rib tickling hilarious contributions of Mez, Trikal, and Poonte dai. Such witticism I had not seen nor heard in a long time! And of course, there were Meddle and Czar dai in the backdrop strumming beautiful melodies on their guitar. The momos and other light snacks were doing the rounds, with Poonte dai dishing out platefuls of delicious momos to everyone.

There was SO much energy floating around in that aptly cozy place. Czar and Mez dai were singing, strumming and drumming at one moment and courteously mixing drinks for the partygoers at the next. Oys bhai was Energizer Bunnyof the night who claimed to have slept only 3 hours in the past 2 days and yet was as swift as Achilles.

Arnico arrived sometime after midnight and mingled with felicity with his fellow sajhaites. I was meeting him for the first time but we instantly clicked like old time friends. I couldn't stay long that night and hitched a ride with Poonte dai and San Maharaj. The best part of the sajha extravanganza was yet to come. And it came with a bang the very next day!

More laterz...

Wow wow wow wow! keep em coming .........really enjoying reading all these recollection. Its like reliving the whole experience once more.

Let me add few other forgotten moments and tuakka tukka ;)
******************

Calling Horizons and "lobbaing" him about food and festive spirit comes knocking in my mind. eheh HOri bro, we did miss you a lot, and hope u a speedy recovery so that you can join me next time for a cycle chain duet ;). You were indeed missed by very prominent members of the get together ;)

When najar dizzu's friend, sujata started singing, one of the non sajhaites asked me to go and check the stereo system. She was so sure that the singer was only using the lips, and the song was being played on CD. It was one of the mesmerizing experiences while everyone fell down like mediocre audiences in front of her. btw, thanx for the CD sujata dizzu, will cherish and thanx for introducing me to your hubby ;) whom we used to know BACK in the days ;)

The lonesome few hours in the park waiting for rest of the sajhaites was another forgotten hours. Pictionary was indeed refreshing to play and who else but our KALANKI LUTERAAAAAA got most of em right. eheh.....I still recall Trikal jyu, showing his shoes to Stu, trying to draw HEEL....... and funniest of em all.........Rusty's drawings of RIBS? does anyone remember? gosh rusty bro, i thought i was bad in d rawing :P and yankees lecture on PEG THEORY and stu, ko201 getting scared the next day if he'd ask that question to them ;)

*****************
while roaming around jackson heights, a bird Pooped on one of the sajhaites amidst the drizzle. KO201 quickly takes the paper wipes off the back of the fellow sajhaites and comments " NYC ma chara haroo ko ni attitude huncha bhanthe, sanchai ho raicha" :)

Finally, I would like to thank Mez bro for giving me one of the most important advices while staying in US. while talks rambled around love, marriages and ketis (both bhau khojne and nakhojne) , the most witty comment I have heard all weekend came out like a divine advice for me " AMERICA MA KHOJI KHOJI, boru NEPAL MAI ROJI ROJI" :)

LAst but not least.........Simpyyyy dizzzzzzzu, Thanx for the JHATKA :P will cherish that in years to come as well ;)

more laterz!

Harey Shiva!Bikash bro lai chai everytime birsinchu.....the magician Chef who makes khasi ko MUKHAI ma jhundine masu in like what? ten mins or less? gosh that was amazing, as well as hanging around with you in the evening. Will see you again soon.
Rusty Posted on 03-Sep-03 01:45 PM

List of people I missed at the party: NK, Sitara, Jira, Dumbass ( Marich), Guna, Bella, shady_clown, Gurl_Int...Ummmm who else.. all you? Ooh Yeah DWI aka Lekhak!! I thought he was from New York. There are tons of people who could be there..

Anyways, I had such a nice time in NY. When I got back from Big Apple to Big mountains and forest, as Eminem8 said, I was snapped back to reality; jati moj garepani last ma tehi ghau ma farkanu parne:(

OOh, I almost forgot to thank Bikash bro, who was silently backing up the party.

Oys,
my drawing was little illusionary that psychedelic view:P I thought Meddle would understand.. But he's not sitting on the fat pound of green grass, I guess;) Aba maile k bhaneko bujhyo ki bujhena:P However, Trikal's noticeable trick to point out Prem's heels can't be forgotten:P ehehe!!

I am just wondering why people are not giving any remarks on the songs I played. Wasn't I awesome DJ:P At least I made you dance on the floor or shake your booty:P

Rusty Posted on 03-Sep-03 01:46 PM

Correction: my drawing was little illusionary that needed psychedelic view:P

Hahahahah Oys, the lobbaing did work. I have been surviving on frozen food for many days now. My physical limitation was just an excuse to avoid the cycle chain ni J))). Ke garni natra yo pali nai auna hunthyo ni. Missed by prominent members, huh ???? Hmmmmm I guess I have arrived in Sajhapure then J))).

It was indeed my loss. Thank you guys for the invitation, I really wanted to come and represent the Midwest. It was nice talking to several of you and I am sure this extravaganza in only the beginning.

Recollections contd.

Sunday:
After having slept in the wee hours of the morning, i woke up with a sort of heavy head. Nevertheless, with a zesty spirit as I had an exhilarating day ahead. The sajha picnic was scheduled for the afternoon. Well, initially, it was to take place at 11am sharp at the Flushing Meadows, Corona Park. Then somehow that became the Gorkhali time which translated into a 3pm start!! But hey, better late than never, no? I was informed by Poonte dai who was my frequent correspondent updating me on the status of the small task force consisting of Kalanki, Oys, K0201, Yankees, Rusty, Trikal, Eminem, AX, Czar....wait a minute now. Small task force? Looks like more than half of the gang was there. Anyways, their mission was to find a spot most suitable for the grand sajha picnic, which they eventually accomplished. We landed up at one of the choicest spot.

As I sat down under that ample shade of a large tree, I could see the gang at work and play. Some of them were diligently driving back and forth to bring the khana to the venue and others were mirthfully singing ganas to engage the rest. Again, a round of applause to Poonte, Czar, AX, and Arnico who were busily bringing us all the mouthwatering delicacies from miles away.

Meddle brought "the ladies" some refreshments and sat down to converse with us about QED, which was something new to me, to be honest. His was an indomitable spirit and he convinced us into believing practically everything. Dangg was part of the mesmerized group as Meddle produced evidence galore to back up his claims! Meanwhile, Rusty was singing beautifully in the background. Sujata was next and she enthralled us all with her enchanting voice. A true professional she is!

The volleyball enthusiasts put up the net and soon the sajha sports began. The non sajhaites arrived momentarily and joined the volleyball game. The non sajhaites ladies and gents could also be seen playing cards and thoroughly enjoying themselves on salsa 'n chips. I snuck in myself at some point to partake of that irresistable yummy stuff.

Few more recollections...........

How could dem peapal forget the rasta vibe ubiquitous throughout the weekend, particularly when gennie was doing a digital photo presentation on sunday evening! Oh, dyaauum Rastamaan you were indeed missed, among other sajhaites who could not make it. Someone also speculated you live somewhere in NY, wish you were at teh get together!

---------------

Saturday night, Poonte dai upon fukaaing bhauju ko teej brata comes to gennie's place to join the rest of crowd as well as to finish his preparation for next morning's culinary task...but the crowd at gennie's place had already started non-stop gaana bajaana.

Predictably, the crowd demands that Poonte perform his popular gaaine geets. With his classic saarangi in hand and ryaai ryaai tune he draws the attention together with chorus from some of the sajhaites who've heard his geets in teh past. Rusty starts dropping dollar bills while dangg his credit credit, tucking them under his hat! Amid all this a phone rings. Mind you, there are tons of cell phones in the room, on the floor, on teh couch, on the table, on the kitchen counter etc. Anyway a phone rings while the crowd is really absorbed into his song in progress...Dangg answers the phone...

X on the phone): Hello, who is this? (in a surprising tone)
Dangg: Ma dangg hajur
X: Where is Poonte?
Dangg: Poonte dai is singing a gaaine song
X: Can i please speak to him?
Dangg: Poonte daiiiiiiiiiiiiii, bhauju on the phone.......

Poonte dai knowing his beautiful wife called STOPS his gaaine geet in progress rigth at that second coming to a complete halt only to pick up where he left after completing his conversation with bhauju! :)

-----------------------

Rusty, you da myaan!!---your "mohani laaga hai" geet rocked, among others! Thanks for performing that request.

--------------------

ooooooh my eminemmmmmm me too missing you a lot! Jaaun hinda nepal tira sangai, padhera ko thhulo bhaa chha ra! Hatti napadhe pani thhulo bhaa chha kyare :P, and we will live happily ever after. Ani JFK aauna agaadi ek choti TRIKAL Maharaj laai consult garera aau hai since he never answered the question we asked in Jai Kishan height :P ;) :)

more as i remember....Simps good going, please do continue..........

Everyone "jhumming" around Meddle bro, while he continued to play pink floyd, pinky and more of dark side of the moon.
"Hyaaa bhayena bro, la aaba sabai lai aaune geet gauna paryo" someone suggested. Everyone agreed. So did our beloved meddle bro.

"la la, sabai lai aaune geet hai ta?" he started strumming another tune and we started looking at each other tulu tulu when he started singing "HEY, OUT THERE IN THE COLD" :(

*******
hahaha! three guys getting locked out ..that was funny, but I cant wait to develop my pics to see myself sleeping with the keyboard ;)
*******

About volleyball, the less said the better. However, I was looking forward to it, and when I saw mez bro do few raises and few spikes, I was encouraged. We put up a good fight, with support from san dai, trikal bro, arnico bro, ax bro, emin, stu, ko2001, dangg, rusty, I thought we had a outside chance. But instead of oldie yankee boys, they had youngsters, spiking and raising like professional, then my hope was crushed.

But sports is a great leveller. Yes, we were no match to the yankees for they had brought with them really good players borne to be athletes, yet we could take so much for the game. Its not only always about winning an event but playing with our hearts out, and I believe our sajhaitees did that, and if u don't believe me, you should see the torn shirt of our mez bro who gave in everything for the sake of Sajha. Like they used to say in our school days, we did our best, but the devils did the rest ;)

oks more to come laterzzzz.......

To be honest, I had actually checked the site around 10:30pm after I got home in Virginia. And mon cher Monsieur Czar The Great had already depicted the "Sajha Extravaganza" so prolifically, I was virtually amazed and became wordless to append anything new. Incredibly enthralling it was to read. I was so darn tired, and I had to wake up early the next morning, ergo, I put off my temptation to jot down my memoirs for the next day.

Anyway, what else is left there?:P Everything has been covered. All the cheers from those who attended, and the woes from those who missed. Do I need to say more? IT WAS JUST GRRRRRWWWWEEEEEEEAAAAATTTTTTTT !!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU CZAR, GINIE, POONTE, AND ALL MY SAJHA FRIENDS FOR WONDERFUL MEMORIES.

And yes, last but not least, I think I have to say something about myself now.:) My pledge to you all, please do not label me with QED ;) and the dark side. I know there is no harm meant, but still, please please please.............

Bu, you forgot Oys..... I didn't sing Pink Floyd song then :(... I was so tired of playing the same chord, which was G major, on those jhyaure Nepali geet, and wanted something new. Hence, I had strummed the tune from "Redemption Song" by Bob Marley... I did it deliberately for a fun, saying it was the "sabailai aaune tune"... Instead of it becoming a joke, I became the joke myself huh? Hmmm, balla po yaad aayo.. sabai jana fittu thiye ni tettibela...to realize it.. hoina ta? hehehehehehehhe

Anyway, when my pbp bhai pulls a joke on me.. I am never syaad.. hehehhehe

KaLaNkIsThAn Posted on 05-Sep-03 03:21 AM

It was almost 4 AM early Sunday morning. Everyone was drunk and everyone went to sleep but me, K0201 and meddle. Meddle (the guitar guru) was playing his guitar and we were singing the tunes of Metallica, Pink Floyd (The truth is we were trying to recognize the name of the song meddle played as he asked "yo geet sunya cha?"). We finally decided to hit the sack but before that we needed the last cigarette of the day.

Sooooo, we went out, to the smoker's paradise. K0201 and Meddle discovered that they have some common friend in DC and they were busy talkin' about him. When we were done smoking, we tried to open the main door, and it was locked. The funniest thing was, all of us were like "damn!" and after that K0201 and Meddle resumed their conversation. I hit the doorbell while they (still chatting) disappeared in the dark to find the back door. I was still hitting the doorbell.

10 minutes and there was no sign of both meddle and k0201. I thought they found the back door. A moment later, 2 shadows appeared in the dark. It was them approaching towards me lazily and THEY WERE STILL CHATTING. (btw, I was they were khaali khutta hehe... I was the only smart one to put the slipper on hehe!!).

K0201 tried to go through the Thai temple and someone yelled "hey" from "Nepathya", although no one replied upon being asked. Everyone of us left the cell phone inside. So we decided to drive couple of blocks and find a phone booth but we didn't have anyone's number but gintang's cell phone. We called gintang in his cell phone from the Spanish-speaking quarter-eater customer-ripper phone and his phone was dead.

We came back. Our only hope was Poonte dai who promised to be there before 8 AM. We parked the car. My head grew heavy and I tried to take a nap. They were still chatting. I was harldly talking, and I couldn't sleep either but I was having fun listening to meddles logical guffsuff. An hour later Meddle, still talking, suddenly stopped talking. Next thing I know, he was asleep... boom! just like that. Quarter of Seven, I woke up, looked at the rare-view mirrow and our savior was there.

Pooonte daaaaaai, all wired up :P, he looked like hairless James Bond in half-kattu :D, came out of the car. As I saw him, I ran to him like a small kid. Poonte dai almost fainted when he saw me and I was like "poo dai, I gotta go peeee! hehe". Poo dai called gintang on his home phone. Gin opened the door, that was the only time I saw ever-SMILING gin not SMILING, which was of course the last thing we wanted. But hey, shit happens. :D
As we came downstairs, we crashed on anything we could see. Next morning we became a JOKE!!! LOL... whatta NIGHT!!
kAlAnKiStHaN Posted on 05-Sep-03 04:04 AM

Meddle (soleil) is a real guitar guru. I was mesmerized by the classical tune he played. dayummm dude, I want those hands :D. And like Rusty said, his logical guff was a killer. There is no way one can argue with him and win :D.

The most touching moment: Poonte dai runs back home Poo bhauju ko teej ko brata fukaauna. Feri bhauju pani kyaaa cool... aaaaaaanch!!

*********
Before we locked-out, we were singing and playing guitar and Oys was playing trivia on the computer. He fell asleep while he was still facing the monitor and his fingers were perfectly positioned on the key's of the keyboard.. hahah, that was the classic kodak moment!! broooooooo, photo dhulaune hoina? hehe...

*********
Sunday morning, Oys and Eminem were chopping cucumber. Both same height and same size. Tukrukka baseko, guff chutdai, facing each other. Both of them looked like novice chef -- haat kaapdai cucumber kaatdai. LOL!! They looked really funny.

*********
While Oys and Eminem were choppin the cucumber, Trikal baa joined us in the conversation. Both Trikal baa and I were doing nothing but guff suff. Later Trikal baa was like Jibro kaatdai "Laaa, Poonte le aalu chodaa bhanya thiyo, birshi raa!! Marne bho Poonte le" re... LOL.

*********
Danggg holding a sweater and dancing on the song "pehla nasha"! He was doing it exactly as Aamir Khan did in the movie.. hehe!!

Memories........ :D

While we were dancing the sunday night, one didi came to me and asked my name. I told her my name, and she was like "hey! I work in the company by that name, Now you are my brother". hehe... I found a sister -- Kumbha ko mela ma haraayeko re. She was a riot. I was like "didi, aba euta buhari khojdine hoina ta.. hehe...". I hope she is doing the Buhari-hunt.

*********
SuziQ ko singing... dayummmm!!! She has that enchanting vocal. Everyone was like "Tulu tulu herya herai" -- pwakka parera. Waiting for her CD.

Rusty pani kyaa gaune!!! Broooo, have you ever considered cuttin' out an album? :D.

:D:D:D

**********
Bikash bro ko Mahadev JOKE hehe... He is "raam bhandar" of Mahadev Joke... dayummm..
SimpleGal Posted on 05-Sep-03 09:11 AM

Great going Najar and Kalanki!!! yeah, who can forget Poonte dai's ryai ryai on the sarangi......and the dollar notes and credit card tucked under his hat!! it was HILARIOUS ni.

I had heard of the lock-out, but the details I can see now! hehehe

Recollections contd.

I didn't watch the volley ball game too carefully but had a glimpse of it every now and then. It was mainly a Sajha vs. NYC game. Kolle jityo huh? I was hearing mixed accounts. As Najar, Sujata, Meddle, Dangg and I sat on the bedsheet spread out on the grass, I heard Rusty bursting with laughter. I turned my head to look and lo and behold there was Poonte dai carrying BBQ'ed chicken and sekuwa on a plate in the ishtyle of the chatpatey wala in Nepal !!!! "Eh, garama garam BBQ lo! Eh, char ana char ana!" he was saying with his inimitable hilarity. I fell on my back with laughter!!!!!! What creativity! And an authentic portrayal of life in Nepal with the street vendors selling anything from chana, cucumber, coconut to peanuts. "Tang lega ya pakhadi lega?" Poo dai was asking. "The sekuwa chai ma lega. Last ko banki yo ta keta ho" he announced to everyone. He continued on to the volleyball arena to offer the delicacy to the players in the same shrill voice he concocted for his act as a street vendor. Everyone got a kick out of this one!!!

It was getting rather chilly by 6pm and the gang therefore decided to head indoors. Gintang's place was chosen yet again. We gathered everything, threw the trash in the appropriate area, and bid farewell to the non sajhaite NYers. Dang and Meddle were inseparable in the car as we drove back. I heard they were inseparable from the very beginning of this jamghat. Rusty had been complaining, "Ke ho? Iniharu dui jana ko kura kahile nasakine ho ki kya ho? Baa ba!!! Bhete dekhi kura gare ka sakkiekai chhaina! Eh bros, we feel ignored hai!!"

Nice recollection going on frens, keep it going. Here's few of mine&&

The phone rang, but I was too tired to pick it up, though I had to. At the
other end of the line, Poonte dai goes, "ajjhai suti rako ho ki kya ho. Ani
Keta haru ta churot khana bahira niskeko, bahira parecha ni" bhannu bhayo.
That woke me up in a hurry. Worried, I hastened to open the door and
there was Poonte dai, looking noon khayeko khukura jasto. And three
stooges (Stu, K0201 and Meddle) emerging from the car, two of them barefeet.. We laughed about it and I went to back to sleep for another an hour. It was a joke for that next day. We even made a joke saying we all will sleep at the same place next
nite. Those three failed to see the humour of it !
Bro haru blame it on OYS, for he was the one who was sleeping in couch next
to the doorbell ringer. heheheh

********************************************
Ani hamro oys bhai ko chair ma suteko with keyboard foto chai sajha ma tasnu
parcha :p He really wanted to party before school starts. I guess that was
why he was the first one to arrive for the party on Friday nite ;). He
helped us out a lot from grocery to cleaning the apt after the party. He is
one helluva brother to count on. Bro yeso bato harayeko story pani lekhene
po ho ki? Friday evening saw me standing outside for 45 mins waiting for him
to show up. :)

**********************************************
Having known for Rusty for past 3 years online, this was my first time
actually meeting him. We had planned to get together many times but could
not. When we finally did, it was a blast. Rusty dude can sing and he was the
DJ for the Sunday nite. Rusty you better talk to Sujata, may be she can
feature you on her next album ;) After seeing him, stu bro and sujata sing,
I felt like I should grab that mic and sing too, mero pani swor khatra bhai
halcha ki bhanera! It's not that I did not try. I did miss the chance to join others when they had the mic. Then Rusty pulls out his CDs and plays all the great
songs. He played popular old and new nepali songs. Later, people jumped up and went wild once he played Teen Spirit by Nirvana, I was little worried. I had closed the door upstairs so neighbors would not complain and requested him not to play that kinda music. But it was all worth it.

***********************************************
After living in this apt about a year, this the first time meeting with
Sujata, who lives next door. As Najar described, she is an awesome. She rocked
the party. All of us were caught by surprise after she started to sing. As others said before, she can really sing and a great performer. I hope other Sajahaities here try her next album which is coming out soon. Najar, can you please post the URL for her website?

She was nice enough to make tea for all of us next morning. From now one, she will
be seeing me quiet often in her apt for the dinner ;)

***********************************************
Trikal dai, met him after 9 years. He still looked the same. It was nice
talking to him about our old days in Omaha. Most of the people were always
around trying to learn about their future and specially love life ;) He told
me three true things about what's going on in my life and after that I
wanted to keep listening to him. Like he suggested, I am going to wear muga.
Dai, it's on its way from Nepal ;) will be coming to visit you soon.
Oys wanna go???

**********************************************

Anybody knows who was the beautiful mystery girl at the picnic and the party? Actually, I did try to get her on the dance floor. But she was even shyer than me.

***********************************************

It was good seeing Cleanheart even if it was for a brief moment. I wanted him to join the dance floor as well. I even asked dd haru and najar jyu to try to get him on the floor, but he was happy camper at the back watching us dancing. As he is in NYC for now, hope to see him again.

SITARA Posted on 05-Sep-03 10:36 AM

And Poonte said...
"You are missing it, an event of a life time! I'm warning you Sitara, this is my last call... if you call, do so to make it to the party!!!!!!!" "yeah yeah! rub it in" I said, desperately trying to keep the moving truck and truckers in sight as they wove in and out of the labor-day traffic of route 29. Two "life-time" events in one day.... to be or not to be homeless, I chose the latter... and missed a great party, poonte's cooking, hospitality, songs and dances ( So light is he on his feet that if Poonte could tread water, Jesus would have serious competition)!!!! :(

Czar said, " my apt at your disposal and personal valet service at your beck and call". My knight in shining armour, I desperately needed strong, burly, movers and shakers that day...any other day, I would not have declined such gracious offer. Anything to be in Czar's auspicious, academic and info overflowing presence. Actually had been psyched up for singing "Black Magic Woman" and "Daughter of the Devil" with him!

Kalanki ji...My mora.... darn it!!!!!!!!!!!! I missed you, now I will not be able to sleep thinking of how you look/are. My one and only chance (?) The leeeeeeeeeeetle pic in Sajha does NOT help! Heard that you were the "guitey" (guitar playa/playa) of the party!!!! :P

A looong loooong time ago, and I can still remember Mez promising that he would dance with me in Nepali jhaoorey *sigh*. And I can still remember promising Soliel that I would dance with him in Floyd Songs.... tricky but doable!

OYS, my MC... the label is still there for the kid with a verbal kick ( a mule's kick and a cycle chain punch)! Wish I had met you again.

Naja.... Gal, heard you were the life, blood and pulse of the party.... but ofcourse! Also, heard you almost pulled the life-line off of Eminem!!! :P

Rusty, my charmer.... I missed your serenades! But on second thoughts, how kind are the Gods that they spared me a broken, palpitating heart!

Dang, Dang, has everyone seen Dang?????? ;) Dang, Parijaat was thinking of you!

AX, would have liked to met you again and observed YOU this time, as you were the quiet, smiling observer the last time.

San, San, San da Man; I wish I had, I wish I did, meet the man behind the (Sajha) beat! :)

Poonte and Czar, thanks for inviting me...and everybody, I am glad you guys had a blast!!
SITARA Posted on 05-Sep-03 10:42 AM

Trikaal ji... I would have surely, read your palms, hands and eyes and forecasted your present!!!! :P

I would love to talk to you again, hajur! :)

Prem Charo Posted on 05-Sep-03 09:52 PM

Hey Guys,
What the hell with you guys! don't be surprised to see Prem Charo back in the town. WHat a nice days those were when I used to shake and sway San's Sajha. Poonte, Kalanki, Czar and all. I am austonshied to see this crowed and your triumph. BRAVO! sounds like this party was very successful. Unfortunately, I was also in New York when you guys rocked the party. My presence could have been there to embellish the party. Nonetheness, keep your heads ringin'. Should you guys do the same thing next year, I can fly from Hawaii right to your festivity.

Recollections contd.

Sunday:
The picnic was over but the sajha extravaganza was far from it. We formed little groups and piled into the 3 or 4 cars that were available to transport people to the next site--AX's cozy abode. Meddle was driving the one Dangg, Sujata, Arnico, Najar, and I were in. "Kasto batho, he has secured the front seat," Najar exclaimed at the clever tactics of Dangg. "Kya ho, Meddle and Dangg nachhutine bhae jasto chha ni? Lau lau Meddle make sure he goes with you back to your hometown! Dui jana ko lop pare jasto chha, over QED!!!" she added. Everyone was in peals of laughter. Meddle, who is a hard core Pink Floyd fan, took out a CD titled, well, Meddle, to disclose the origin of his sajha name.

"Haina haina, Nepali gana sunam na," Najar and I said simultaneously. Our pick was the unforgetable Narayan Gopal. The CD began with Euta manchhe ko maya le kati.....which both Najar and I had listened to the point of disgust. "Hyaaa, arko gana lau na Meddle, yo ta sunda sunda thaki sakyo bhanya," I said. He switched to the next song which was probably, if I recall correctly, Yo samjhine mann chha ma birsu kasori.....

"Btw guys, did you know that Narayan Gopal's song are full of sexual innuendos?" asked Meddle.
"What? When did this happen?" I inquired in disbelief.
"Laa, teti pani thaha chhaina timiharu lai?"
"Yeah, that is true hai," Dangg confirmed.
"For example, the song with the line Timi samma aaai pugda sajhai pare chha. Now what do you guys make of it? It's so obvious. And that song Kehi mitho baat gara raat tesai dhalkidai chha."
I don't recall where this discussion led to. But I guess by this time everyone knew there was no arguing with the PRO Meddle!!! : )

Dangg adjusted his seat to recline a bit. Then he asked Najar, "Pachhadi thik chha?" Najar replied,"Ek ta afu front seat liyera basne. Tes mathi hami pachhadi cheppiera basne lai seat gachaddine?" This reply was hilarious. Dangg laughed along with us. We met half way and Dangg got to recline a bit while those of us squeezed in the back enjoyed the greater coziness that it granted us.

More laterz....

Arnico Posted on 06-Sep-03 06:34 PM

Enjoyed greater coziness re??? well... I wonder who was sitting on either side of you.
Soleil Posted on 07-Sep-03 01:57 PM

It is quite hard to believe that Arnico, the ever so pedantic and erudite looking, which he is by the way :P, could pose such a wickedly funny question to simpy jyu. But, he did. Didn't he. And I was lmao. hehehhe

Yeah, simpy hajur, who was sitting on either side of you? I couldn't notice it either as I was busy driving and focusing on the streets of NY. However, I do remember playing the CD of Narayan Gopal. I bet it was you simpy jyu, and najar who crooned along those tracks. Remember the line?

"Bainsa chhanda nabhogeko saanjhai dhalechha... timi samu aayi pugda raatai parechha... malai chhodi mero chhayan....."
SimpleGal Posted on 07-Sep-03 06:16 PM

who was sitting on either side of me re? uhhhh......bhandim? huh?

well......the two lucky people were sajhaites who were kind enough to be much slimmer than i and therefore allowed my summer ma mummy le gharma banako khana le "healthy" bhaeko jiu to occupy enough space so as to permit the four of us to SIT. rahasya kholdiye hai maile!! na bolau malai nithuri bhani, timro jasto slim jiu na bhae pani! : ) lau hai meddle ji, arko N. AX, finally we met:) Thank god, none of your cousins was visiting you this time:p

Some people have two faces online and offline, even though it doesn't really portray any multiple personalities or something. Matching your online traits with offline ones, I was quite amazed to see there was nothing difference at all. You're the same Gin and Tonic offline and online both, no matter what. I was really astounded to see your perpetual smile, hard work, and endurance in any situations of difficulties.

Thank god, no one else but you talked about my DJ aptitude. Ehehehe!! I really didn't have all of my CDs in my case; however, I somehow managed to entertain the dancers and music lovers with all different flavors of music from Himalayan Band's "Gajalule aakhai chopne" to 50 Cent's "Find me in da club." Unfortunately, I really did not have any good Nepali Lok Gheet in my hands to stimulate the whole crowd, even though most of them were enjoying, except for a couple of complains about playing hiphop music with F-word:P Well, that was not me, who wrote or sang that song:P

Anyways, whoever appriciated me, I am thankful to them.

Let's hear your recollections more... Simpy nice going..

Some contradictory remarks for *fun*

Simplegal - but very complicated to understand:P
Poonte- but very tall
Czar- but very kind, not bizarre..
PremPujari - but villian of love:P
Gintang - but there was only Vodka and Rom:P
Eminem - but can not sing any rap:P
Trikal - but only two common prophesy:P
Meddle - Always hallucinate about reality
Mez - but not always amazed, Jadiya:P
Yankees- but didn't talk much about the baseball...only Pegging the coins:P
Danggg- only dangg and bangg with one person.. True amity;)

SimpleGal Posted on 08-Sep-03 11:44 AM

Dangg, good to see you here. : ) The number of g's in dangg are like the gov't system in Nepal .... Always fluctuating!

La, aba Rusty ko barema bhanne palo ayo. And this is not said in fun hai. It's "for real"!!!

Rusty--but he was shining throughout the party!

Recollections contd.

It felt good to be back at the familiar and dare I say "cozy" atmosphere of Gintang's home, lest my fellow sajhaites bombard me with queries for clarifications? I guess I have been dubbed "complicated" at numerous instances :P hence under that pretext, I will venture the word cozy yet again, for cozy it was. Couldn't have been better! Poo dai's equally comfy place was suggested as the venue for the sunday night bash, but things didn't fall through for some reason. Instead, Poo dai graciously agreed to join us all at AX's abode along with his entourage of lively and lovely non sajhaite NYers.

"Bhok lagya chhaina. Tetro khada khada pet nai fulni sakyo," was the verdict regarding dinner. "Eso pizza sizza order garum boru," someone suggested. Pizza ta haina, later I had some delicious samosas (aka singadas in Nepali) on my way back from a pleasant outdoor chat with Czar dai. Among the amazing things I learned from him was this piece of heartwarming news that he remembered seeing me as a little kid in Bangkok! And what more, he was briefly staying in a building in the vicinity of where I used to live. Fancy meeting two decades later! Now THAT is called Photographic memory. WOW!

Upon my return back to AX's place, I could hear the melodious voice of Sujata accompanied by hi-tech sound system. I sat down with the rest of the gang and listened with awe at this immense talent. Kalaki/PP suddenly sprang up and grabbed the mike to sing a lovely duet with our nightingale, "Pehla nasha pehla khuma......" Beautiful song. And of course a few songs later, PP jyu dazzled us all with this exquisite rendition of the unforgettable RD Burman calling out to his "MONICA" who was asking her Piya to "ab to aaja....."!!! Not only that, Stu showed us his incredible dance moves. He is one heck of an action packed entertainment series! : ) Go STU!!!

Speaking of GO, I need to go now.....But more recollections will follow laterz.....

>>Kalaki/PP suddenly sprang up and grabbed the mike to sing a lovely duet with our nightingale, "Pehla nasha pehla khuma......"

Yeah, kalanki's melodious vocal fused with Suzie's ecstatic song "pahela nasa" was probably the best moment of that night. I was already delighted by her first CD-quality vocal in "thujse Naraj Nahi"... I think somebody has already mentioned that some people, who were playing cards inside, thought that the voice was coming from CD player. Overall, it was an unforgettable Sajha night:)

Go on...Simppy:)

If I may, Rusty has my vote as a terrific DJ. A good choice of everything from foot tapping tunes to ear drum ringing hip hop..dayumm..I'd never heard of those artistes, but given that some jungle juice was sloshing around my veins.. it sounded purty good..

It was good that I played part time bar man though, it saved ya'all from having to listen to my bar room limericks had I gotten sloshed ! Next time lads, you the get full treatment, so long as its outa earshot of the ladies that is.

Cheers !

Dear friends,

All of my friends have already covered almost each and every detail of the Sajha get-together held in New York in the labor-day weekend. I do not think there is anything left to mention. Still, I am keeping my sense of participation.

It was really a memorable get together for all of us. The three days went with full of programs and events one after another. Many of us had met each other for the first time, but we felt as if we have been intimate friends for long.

AX....Poonte...le gardaa nai yo sabai ramaailo vayeko ho, tyaskaran dhanyabaad dine kunai sabda nai chaina. Yasmaa cZar ko pani bisesh vumikaa cha.

It is nice to see you najar, Simplegal, Kalanki, Mez, Solil and all.

Sitara, jira, we really missed you. It would be more fun if you could be there. Sitaraji mero anuhaar herera future vanna yata tira nai aaune ho ki kya ho? Ax, (Oys?) ani aru pani aaudaichan hai....lau think about it....pheri pani pachutaaunu parlaa hai !!

Aru pachi....

Meddle has been so popular online for so many years and to win hearts of people across oceans, but how come i can't see a single of his posts in Sajha's kurakani!!!
Is he Nepali Chat Samrat?
SimpleGal Posted on 09-Sep-03 08:10 AM

Recollections contd.

I have been remiss in neglecting to metion that both on saturday and sunday, the one voice that dazzled us all with its variety and melody was that of our very own Rusty. His renditions were equally beautiful whether it was rock, pop, rap, jhyaure, hindi, nepali, or english. I was absolutely immersed in his melifluous voice. And how can I forget his funky gesture with his hands? ;) In the style of rappers!!! This talented sajhaite both amused and amazed me with his sheer sense of timing! For instance, he grabbed the mike after SuziQ and Stu and sang with enthusiasm and perfection the song that encapsulated the general sentiments of many of the partygoers that night. Can anyone guess which song it might be?? I myself found it most aptly chosen for the mood of the moment. The song was the evergreen "Log kehete hai mai sharabi hoon......" and the next one was even more effective in gathering the jubilant cheers from the crowd, "Yeh lal rang kab mujhe chhode ga!" Wah wah wah!! Our Rusty was simply unbeatable!!!

The singing rapidly gave way to dancing where everyone participated. And Rusty played yet another significant role that night -- that of the sajha DJ for the night! His selections were just Perfect. Especially the 1974AD number "Yo man ta mero Nepali ho!!" This sent the crowd WiiiiiiiiiiiLD!!! Someone found the Nepali flag and it was passed around for everyone to touch and express the pride each felt in being Nepali. Some even wore it as a bandana. As the song gathered momentum, the dancers did too. Everyone started to jump up and down to celebrate the sentiments of this song "Yo man ta mero Nepali ho!!" Boy, it was simply GRAND and UNFORGETTABLE. Thanks Rusty for your perfect timing!!

More laterz.......

SimpleGirl,
Wow Wow! so much about me;) what else can I say, except for thank you for your compliments. It seems like your reminiscences are getting blurred and fatigued. However, keep going till you come to an end.

SimpleGal Posted on 11-Sep-03 07:46 AM

Recollections contd.

So, the dance floor was alit with the fiery music by DJ Rusty and the furious dancing by the sajhaites. I remember floating from Rusty to San to Arnico and finally to Oys. All of them are fabulous dancers btw. So gals, next time you are at a sajha party, make sure you dance at least one dance with all these cool dancers!! Sad part is that I didn't have a chance to dance with the ever popular Kalanki and Poonte. Well, there is always a next time. We should dance up a storm hai PP jyu and Poonte jyu??? ;)

At some point when I was sitting on the sofa to take a breath, Oys yanked me out of the sofa and we waltzed off. Thanks for the dance tips Oys! He is a much better dancer than I can ever aspire to be and unfortunately, with my clumsiness, I dragged him with me the two times I lost my balance and almost fell. Well, at some point I did fall onto the sofa with Oys following suit!! We abruptly got up and danced on. He was SOOO cute that I had to give him a little "jhatka"! ;) Oys, it was lovely dancing with ya!!!

There was group dancing too at some point where we locked arms and did a country dance sorta thing. The gals were pushed to the center at some point and the guys circled around. That was another beautiful dance. So basically, there was dancing, dancing, and more dancing till about 4pm. I snuck into another room where Meddle, Dangg, Czar, Stu, and others were gathered for some guitar moments. I stayed there briefly chatting with Dangg about life and love.

At 4 the group dispersed and bid farewell to each other. As I walked out of the place, I felt a heavy heart inside me. As the saying goes, All good things must come to an end. And the best thing of the summer had come to its end. I had enjoyed every moment of it! The sajha gathering was the pinnacle of my summer as I am sure it was for many of us. A skeptic about the internet, I had never imagined a website to bring so many wonderful people into my life and in such a lively and unforgettable manner. I thank you San for making this possible in the first place!

And here end my recollections. I hope others will keep adding their experiences!! We have yet to hear from Trikal, Arnico, Czar, Yankees, Dangg, Eminem, and Meddle. I am all ears, folks!

In peace.
SimpleGal Posted on 11-Sep-03 07:50 AM

I realize that the previous posting is laden with "at some point." Rusty jyu, you are right. Perhaps my recollections are getting somewhat blurry and fatigued. :P But, as Blakes wrote, "Ye pipes play on!" I urge other sajha party people to "play on"!
Poonte Posted on 11-Sep-03 09:00 AM

Thank you, Simpuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, for wonderful recollections! I think we should collect all parts of your recollections and make it into a single, huge volume to be stored in Sajha archives ;)

Now, the Monday morning-afternoon part that Simpy missed...

Still fatigued but ready for more action, I woke up at about 9 am, and hurriedly called Gini to see what the gang was upto. Surprisingly, most of them were already awake and ready to hit the road to Jackson Heights, a notorious Indian part of town, for chya-sya re. I woke up San..."Jackson Height ma chya piuna jaane re...utha aba!"

"Anything, bro!"

He, along with his friend from Boston, were ready in 10 minutes. Suddenly, Arnico called. "I just checked online, and ALL the tickets for the Chinese bus to go back to Boston today are sold out re." San was soooo worried--he had to go back Monday, for he had a meeting or something early morning Tuesday. VIP haruko life nai arkai :P I wish I could have coerced him to stay, but I totally understood his dilemma, and agreed to drop him off at the Chinese bus station right away--he was hopeful that if he went early and waited in line long enough, he would be able to get a ticket. So, no chyaa-syaa and wonderful tour of Indian streets for San. He was particularly very saddened about the fact that he would not be able to say proper good bye to the rest of the gang. Anyway, we got to Chinatown, and lo behold! Kun bhagwan ko naam japdai aa thyo kunni tyo San...first bus kai ticket paai ra. Bichara...bina sitthai ma Jackson Height miss garna paryo. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr @Arnico! :P

After a warm and cozy hug from San ;), and an invitation to visit Boston soon, I bid him farewell and drove straight to JH. Tyaa pugda ta chyaa pasal ma koi ni chhaina :( Euta lai call gare...chhaina...arko, no answer...arko, voice mail...damn! tetro 15 jana ko hul kata bilayo? Bermuda Triangle ta chhaina JH ma? chit chit pasina nai aayo :( Finally, the fourth person I tried to call, Kalanki, answered him phone.

"Bhai chaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...kata ho?"

"Dai broooooooo...haamta chya sya khai sakem...JH ghumi raa...uta tyo 37th ra 74th ko corner tira chhan sab jana."

Corner ma pugda, jamma 5 jana...baanki sab kin-mel, ghumdai chhan re...

Kalanki came back with a bag full of Hindi CDs and DVDs...next party laai prepare garna hola! One by one, everyone showed up...aba ke garne? No one wanted to say good bye just yet!

Lunch khane! Kata? The small, but great food: TANGRA MASALA. For anyone visiting NY/Queens area, I strongly recommend the restaurant: it's Chinese food, Nepali/Indian style...piro-piro, masale dar Chinese food. The owner is a Chinese from Calcutta, who went to school in Darjeeling, so he speaks Chinese, HIndi, Nepali, English fluently.

Sim sim sporadic pani pari raa thyo...15 jana ko hul laai rakhna table pauna gahro bho...we had to wait out in the rain for about 45 minutes! Some were ready to give up...hya je khaye ni bhai haalyo ni...bhok laai sakyo...yahan arko paali aamla...

Tara...dhyantaraaaan! After we got to sit, khana aayesi tyo sab waiting time ta worth it! Yesto meeeeeetho khana chha ki...ma ta sad :( Hijo-asti samma sable Poo dai ko khana ko prasansa garthe...aja ta Poo dai chet! eheheheh Dang le Medlu ko side chhodya haina tyahan pani! :P

Four non-Sajhaites--three of Najr's friend, and my own better half--also had a great time. Khan sidhyo, moj sidhyo, time to say good bye :(

MEZ and Meddle tetai baata baato laage...

Gini, Czar, Najar and her friends decided to walk back home...tyo pani ma!

Trikal guru ko Mercedes ma chaai Rusty, Arnico, Dangg ra Eminem ukliye...they followed me to Simpu's place to pick her up.

Simpuu laai pick garesi arko ruwa-basi...ehehheh...Poo daiiiiiiiii...dang boo hoo hoo gardai mero tallu mai MUAH gardyo...Poo ko chillo, gahu goro talu...aekai chin ma rananana bhayera raato bho...maskindai...then came Rustuuuuuuuuuuuuu...maile ni promise garya thiyen Poontuuuu ko talu ma muah garne bhanera....chyappai parera, danggg ko muha ta ke muah? MMMMMMMMMMMMMMUAH nai gardyo...ma ta neeeeelai! ehehhe Shreemati uta bata chhadke najar le ghurdai eheheh ;) Bichari...she didnt mind...afterall, she was all too impressed with the Sajha crowd already!

Bhanne lai ful ko mala, sunne lai soon ko mala...yo katha baikuntha gai haala...ani feri bhanne bela ma turuntai Poo ko chyauri parya mukh ma aai hala...

Once again, thank you all for making Labor-day weekend/2003 a very memorable one :)
