I am sure many of you have listened to this program already, but there is something about the program that I feel like discussing here. I love listening to most of the weekend editions of the Susheli on Kantipur FM (which is available online at http://www.kantipuronline.com/fm_html/susheli.htm) when Hom Bhandari, one of the RJs of this program, gives very poetic touches to the program, which in fact makes him very different from other RJs. There is another RJ of the same program who tries to introduce you to different ethnic groups of Nepali; however, it is my personal opinion that she totally fails in her novel attempt with some "patronizing" descriptions. Besides the songs they play are boring. In any case, Hom is really good when he mixes some quite refreshing songs with verses of some of the well known (e.g., Madhav Ghimire, Krishna Parajuli) and some budding poets. Interestingly, he recites many of those Nepali CHHANDAs that I havent had a chance to hear for ages. In the current edition, there is an interesting recitation of Bhanu Bhakta Pokharel (not Bhanu Bhakta Acharya) from Biratnagar by Kunti Moktan and a few good songs. It wouldnt be an overstatement to say that the time I spent listening to those while I start my morning at my office keeps me close to home. |
