From 'The Hindu' Wednesday, September 3, 2003 ============================== Nepalese girl is 'Miss World University' Kathmandu, Sept. 3. (PTI): A Nepalese class 12 student has won the World Miss University 2003 beauty pageant held in Seoul, South Korea. Ayusha Shrestha, 17, from the Himalayan White Horse College in Kathmandu defeated 50 other contestants from across the world to grab the crown and a cash prize of $5,000 at a colourful programme in Seoul on August 29, said a release from the World Miss University Organisation Committee. Her victory is a happy moment for our family and a matter of prestige for the whole country, said Ayusha's father Rajendra Kumar Shrestha. This is the first time any Nepalese won any international beauty pageant. Ayusha will be the Peace Ambassador to the United Nations for the year 2003 and will be involved in a number of social activities. Moldovian college beauty Prorina Curerena and Indian college beauty Medha Nagunas were declared first and second runner-ups. |

Good job, Ayusha!! Congratulations!! She is a student at Himalayan White House College and NOT at Himalayan White Horse College!! Until recently, she used to anchor a 1/2-hour program on Nepali pop music on weeknights on Channel Nepal, a TV station. Needlessly to say, I was one of the devoted members of the audience!! Have you noticed that in recent times, the young in Nepal have done us very proud? Our under-19 cricket team gave a series of kick-ass performances to be the champions not too long ago. Our Institute of Engineering ko Robotics Club dazzled its competitors in Bangkok to bring home the top medals. And there's Ayusha, defeating even India -- a country that now prepares for international beauty pageants the way Chicago Bulls prepare for NBA playoffs!! This is all great news. My optimism is that: With slightly more than 80 per cent of the population under the age of 40, Nepal is a young country and can be transformed in a radically positive way WITHIN A GENERATION or two -- and in our lifetime. oohi ashu ktm,nepal |

You have broaden my sparrow chest with pride . ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nepal ko choro , Hunny and Sunny Rouniyaar had won Miss Talent Award and not the main title like Ayusha so she is the first nepali to have done it . let me give you example of soccer and clear your cloud of confusion . lets say . Miss world University = World Cup Miss Talent , Miss Best Hair ,Miss Photogenic ,Miss Best Dress ,Miss Best Catwalk ,Miss Best cakewalk ,Miss Beautiful Skin etc are like consolations prizes just like ,Best Goal ,Fair Play Award ,Top Goal Scorer (golden boot), etc in Soccer . Hello, Hunny and Sunny Rouniyaar had won Miss Talent and Miss Peace Award in "Mr. & Miss University Beauty Pageant" which is organized by World CARP - http://www.worldcarp.org - http://www.mmujapan.com "The World Miss University" which Ayusha Shrestha won the Miss World University Award is organized by International Association of University Presidents, a UN-affiliated NGO. Congratulation to Ayusha and also to all the Nepalese !!!! Now it is absolutalely unbelievable that Nepal has won this contest.Can u imagine Nepal beating boastful Indian, who having won numbers of beauty conest, must have felt. Though it may not be as glamerous as Miss Universe or Miss World, it is still a competition which every country hopes to win.So don't you dismiss this as being easy to win. I hope that the new generation of Nepali, especially those residing out of Nepal, would make your country proud by becoming an outstanding person in their field. Bhunte ji , Sunny Rauniyaar was married to a hotel businessman from darjeeling .She has one kid and lives with her husband in Darjeeling .She has become moti these days . And Hunny is besides me ?what you want from her anyway ? |
