U can easily get Digital Camera @ the cost below 250$ if it is for 3MP as 5 MP are aldy available now in the market. Nikon, Minolta, Canon, Olympus are the Cos. especially for camera. Many customers go for SONY nowadays- donno why? It is just expensive only, however lighter in wt. If u concentrate on the picture quality, one has to focus on it's LENS, which is one of the most vital parts of the camera. NIKON is considered having the best LENS. CANON & NIKON are comparitively more expensive than others depending on the mega pixel. Please Concentrate on the followings; * File sizes (2272x1704, 1600x1200, 1280x960, 640x480 ) for different image quality modes (super fine, fine, standard, economic) [it depends on camera- a good camera has all of these functions] *Storage capacity: Approximate storage capacity of a 16 MB SD (Secure Digital) Memory Card --- 16 MB would be a small size if u go on taking pictures in 2272x1704 size. However, u can buy 32 or 64 or 128 MB SD Card. SD Memory cards are one. I think, SONY does have another card. *Digital zoom : x 1.25, x1.5, x1.75, x2, x2.25, x2.5 may be okay. *Battery performance (approx.) : Continuous playback time more than two hours depending on battery. It is better to go for battery recharger -- since u r using ur camera in NEPAL, pls look it's specification (rating): 220 V, 50 Hz is enough for Nepal. *External power source : U can use it in DC mode too, e.g., 3V DC *Flash modes : Fill flash, Fill flash with red-eye reduction, Flash cancel ( this will work) *Movie : Recording time- it depends on camera - 1 min, 30 mins, 90mins etc. *File formats : usually in JPEG, TIFF -- may be others too *Compatible computers: Where u wanna install the CD provided with Camera -- in which operating system? computer with preinstalled Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 98*, or Windows 98 Second Edition* and with a built-in USB port as standard interface etc... YOU can also find Optical zooming control as Power zoom. Just surf on the net and compare all the cameras, and go for the best. GOOD LUCK. |

I have been very happy with my Canon Digital Elph S230. Cost me about $350, but that was almost a year ago, so the price must have come down. It's 3.2 MP, has compact flash storage system (16MB disk comes with it), 2X Optical 3x Digital zoom. Takes fanstastic still and movie pictures, and has all sorts of features. Feels nice and solid in the hand, and is smaller than Shikhar cigarrette pack. It comes with LiO rechargeable battery and charger. Charger can be used in Nepal without any converter because the input volt range is between 100 to 240. I recommend that you buy extra storage disk (compact flash disks are the most prevalent and cheapest of all storage media), because with camera as nifty and handy as this, you will be clicking away like crazy. |

I think the Fuji's A310 or A3 would be a perfect choice for you. Its 3MPixel and its about 200dollars. Well, Sony's plus me is also not bad choice. Sony's U30 model is 2MPixel is the one that I purchased on the day it was released, that was special day for me and it was really a great gift to the person whom I offered. It was about 26,000yen i.e. 200dollars. Quality is fine. Battery are easily rechargable i.e. A4(?) type (pen light battery : thats what we call in Nepal). Its stilll not available outside Japan and major US cities. IF you have a friend in Japan, you can buy it through him. If you ask him to buy at Yamada denki then they offer 10% discount (point back) so you can buy an additional set of rechargable Sony Cybershot battery + recharger. It can also take sound less movie MPEG clips. If you are to afford more, then, go for Cybershot 32 82 72 (with normal bateeries ii.e. A3/4 type). Or my preference is FS-77 its excellent, you can even your own picture without asking others help esp. when you are on tour. Takes MPEG movies 320x240 frames. Well, FX -77 costs about 100dollar extra compared to Fs-77, but, bluetooth so you can directly send pictures to computers, and save cost of extra memory stick. provided you have mobile computers. Well, several friends of mine have P6, P8, P9 or P10 (latest one) models. these are also good. range from 300 to 500 dollars. When new model arrives in P series, old ones have price stepping down @ 100dollar each. Every 4 or 6 month you have new model in Sony, bad side of Sony. Why not you check at SonyStyle.com and if ou know japnese and if our computer handles jap. characters you can browse: www.sonystyle.co.jp well, you can also see different prices for different cameras in japan at http://www.kakaku.com/ ...... have nice shopping. Well, being fan of Sony, I have no idea on other makers. GP |

Hi frens, check new digital cameras from gateway at www.gateway.com their prices seem competitive. I read the review of their 5 Megapixel camera (Gateway DC-T50 Digital Camera) and its comparison with Kodak's similar range and price. It said that it was the best buy for that price range in the market...easy to sue as well I think the gateway camera's are a good buy. The prices are as follows: DC-T20 Digital Camera $ 129 - 2 megpix DC-M40 Digital Camera $ 199 - 4 pegapix DC-M50 Digital Camera $299 - 5 megapix DC-T50 Digital Camera $399 - 5 megapix DC-T50 also has a charger and a battery included with it. So in the long run that might be helpful and cost saving. |

Why do you rely on recommandation from people who will have idea about the few cameras they owned over the years!!! I would go to one of many websites where you could compares prices and features of all the cameras availabe in the market. Why ask amateurs when professional information is a few clicks away!!! Good luck |

Thanks guys... I have come to choosing between the following two cameras-- Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P72 Digital Camera--3.2 mega and 3.2 optical and Canon Powershot s230--3.2 mega pixel but 2x optical Canon is smaller in size and expensive--may be due to the size... So any last final thoughts???? By the way camera will be used to take pictures at night and from distance (not that far but you know like in concerts and stuff)... Thanks. |

If you have good friend in Japan, ask them to buy FS-77, its better than P72 and in japan, its now available almost in 300 dollars or less. The original price was around 500dollar. Its lighter, its stress free and it can take MPEG movie. Buy things that work atleast another 3-4 years. Its 4million pixel, and can be trimmed to lower storage : digital zoom .............. Ask those who went before you.---anon GP |
