Is Nepal safe to live in? What are your thoughts on that?

My thoughts...
Nepal has just come to a halt , choke and now what situation!!

But then, look at Israel , a country of 6 million, where every citizen owns a anti-chemical mask. Terror reigns, yet, they still develop, they still function, and in fact despite the terror they are still a wealthy country and are becoming wealthier.

Given the fact that we have an armed conflict, or shall I say Civil war, it is not safe.

Most of the rural areas are controlled by the Maoists, or are war zones b/n RNA and Maoists.

kathmandu is supposed to be the next major target area. Now you see, this is tricky, the If the Maoists bring all their forces of around 70,000 to fight in the city, then they are gonna have to confront the 300,000 (police and army) of the King. That is not a good match. So I am thinking , they are goona continue the guerilla style terror , where every few days, they bomb a few places, target a few "VIPs".

In that case it will take years to completely seize the capital, if they are sucessful. If they do a conventional war , then its 100 grand soldiers versus 300 grand, and thats pretty impossible.

So what will it be?

In the meanwhile are we safe? No. Of course we're not, remember the years ago, we were considered one of the safest countries to be in. In 2 years the Maoists have sucessed to get hold of most of Nepal , however , those were the rural, and hilly areas, which guerillas , always have an advantage. Kathmandu is a totally different story, in my opinion.

So whats gonna happen to our children in school? To the civilians who work for themselves and to sustain the livelihood of of our country. The country stops developing now, with the increase of terror in the capital, are the people gonna stop working, are they businesses and govt offices gonna stop running?

how many people are ready for tanks on the street?

That is true. Nepal is not safe anymore.

But things could be even worse. What if the Maoists resort to urban guerilla tactics? If they do, then life in Kathmandu would be that in a battlefield. Noone will be safe.

i don't know when these things is going to over,i hope soon.........please all nepali cross your finger for safe and sound and beautiful nepal
prem_dai Posted on 11-Sep-03 08:45 AM

Why to cross the fingers? are all nepalese Christians? I think those of us who consider themsleves as "not christian" should not use that phrase "cross the finger"
saroj Posted on 11-Sep-03 10:12 AM

Premdai i dun think you understand what crossing finger means. It's not crossing fingers making the sign of a cross like the christian Cross. It's crossing your index finger and middle finger on the same hand.

I think it's funny when people try to comment on things they have no clue about.
prem_dai Posted on 11-Sep-03 10:55 AM

Saroj>>>I think it's funny when people try to comment on things they have no clue about.

Do you, by the way, have any clue? Go and read the history of making cross in christianity. Then come back here and comment.
saroj Posted on 11-Sep-03 11:10 AM

Premdai, i think you should try to be a little open minded. Using the phrase "crossing the fingers" does not make you a christian, and there is no reason why non christians should not use it. It's just a figure of speech thats been passed down thru generations, yes it did have religions connotations when it began, but when someone uses it today on a day to day matter, it just means wishing for luck, hoping for the best.

It's like saying English is the language of the Christians do not speak it.
prem_dai Posted on 11-Sep-03 11:19 AM

Yeah, it's like you call yourself hindu, then worship everyday to hindu god, and cook beef at home.. Ihave seen many Nepalese doing that.
saroj Posted on 11-Sep-03 11:29 AM

Premdai,
Isn't hinduism a religion where human beings are differenciated on the basis of their birth in a certain caste system? So a certain human being from a lower cast is treated worse than a pet dog that someone from a higher cast has.

According to Hinduism, only Hindu cows are holy. Other American, British, Japanese, etc cows are of lower caste for being born in a non hindu country and thus they are not sacred. Just as some human being is untouchable for being born in a untouchable family.

I'm a American-Cow-eating Hindu, by the way.

That's what I wanted to know.. thank you.
le chef du nuit Posted on 11-Sep-03 11:42 AM

you dont need to capture ktm to bring the city to disorder
ktm cant produce enough food to feed itself
if the maoists gain control of the roads coming into the valley, they can easily choke it off and bring the ktm based govt to its knees
dautari Posted on 12-Sep-03 10:56 AM

Prem dai...

Does one have to be a Hindu in order to be a Nepali? Suppose, I am a Christian, or a Muslim. Does that mean I am not qualified to be a Nepali?
Prem_dai Posted on 12-Sep-03 12:55 PM

dautari Bhai:

Did I say "one must be hindu in order to be a nepali"? Read my all postings above.. then think yourself with clear mind. Ha ha...
