Dhet! Wahiyaat kuro garfchha yo danggge! (euta 'g' ghatyo wahiyat kuro gare baapat...baanki teenta 'g' chha...hosh gara, sab sidhela! Bebakoof! :P

Gober ma jamara umrane bhaye ta...tyo gaai ko chaak bhari jamarai jamara huna parne! eheheh

sbj-jyu!

It's veery easy... ( I am deadly serious now! Ahem!!)

Get an aluminum tray...depending on how much jamara you want to grow, you can get different size(s)...

fill it up with soil (one packet of flowering soil from a gardening shop will do)...you can get it at Home Depot too!

get JAU from an Indian store...if you can't find it at your town, email me and I would be happy to mail you a small packet.

Wet the soil on the tray just a LITTLE

Spread the JAU seeds all over the tray...dont worry about keeping them separate..tettikai, randomly chharkine...

cover the seeds with another LIGHT layer of soil...you don't need to worry too much about covering them all...some of them will be seen, but leave them alone.

every day, bihana bihana...from Fulpati to Bada Dasahin...puja-suja garne...ani ALI ALI paani chhamkine...be careful not to put too much water here--sprinkle matra!

Watch your jamara grow :)

NOTE: If you want to make your jamara yellowish, instead of the natural green, then cover your tray with a card board box so that very little light will go through...
(Nepal ma dark room ma umaarchhan for this purpose)...

********

Every day bihana bihana aafno kaan pani ali ali tanna parchha....away from your head, so that Dashain ko deen ma jamara raakhna thaam banchha :P ;)

Poonte hazur,

I thought you always grew your jamara on your tallu as an act of great religious penance and merit (aba tyo dui ta larke jumlaya chora pauna kya). Why you now telling folks to do othewise? Or is it a case of the old American malaise of 'Do as I say, not as I do?'

Aba jamara ko kura ayepachi hazur lai Dashain ko mangal mai suva kamana takrayauna kina banki rakhne!

Mangalam Garudadhoja....

This is how I do it every year.

1. Buy 2 containers usually it is made of clay of the same size.
2. Buy sand from home depot. No you do not need to buy soil.
3. Put the sand in one container and add water to wet it.
4. Spread jau all across, depends on how dense you want and how much jau you have.
5. Cover it with another container.

Add water every day. It cannot be dry. If you cover the container completely and do not allow sunlight, jau will be less green this is how I like it.

Good luck.

Prajesh Posted on 16-Sep-03 09:02 AM

Once upon a time a Dog went on a vacation for couple of months. When he came back his friends and family gathered around him and asked "what did you see?"...... "What did you learn?"..... the Dog said just said "Meow" (poor thing, he forgot the art of BARKING just in couple months).

On the positive note, I am glad that lot of us still remember "dasain", "jamara", "fulpati" and "Nepal".

8-) is correct except for covering the container starts from fulpati (i.e. seventh day).
