I heard there will be Galla selection for New British Gurkha recruits for 2003 very soon .Some of my relatives are going for selection (some for the second time ).When is the galla selection date ?Does anyone have some knowledge about it ?these lads who are studying 10+2 right now in good colleges are skipping classes and going to village for galla selection .I have few questions .

1.Is it true that these days only who have secured First Division in SLC and are studying 10+2 are given priority in order to be recruited as British Gurkhas ?

2.What is the minimum and maximum age to compete for the British Gurkhas ?

3.Is it true that British are increasing the quota for gurkha recruits from 250 to 300 ?Some Nepali newspaper even claim that quota will be raised from 250 to 1000 .Is Britain trying to rescue young nepali lads from Maoists by doing so ?

4.Who takes the most Ghoosh (bribe ) Gallawalla ? ARO (Area Recruiting Officer ) or DRO (DistrictRecruiting Officer )?

5.Why was British Gurkhas Headquarters replaced from Itahari (dharan) to Pokhara ?Is there any fixed quota for Western District and Eastern District or is it the matter of "Survival of the fittest "?

6.Is it true that childrends of new British Gurkha Recruits will be given full British Citizenship by the British government ?

7.Physical tests for British gurkhas are :
a.25 times sit up in a minute on a inclined board
b.25 times beam push up in a minute .
c.Doko race carrying 30 Kg up the hill
d.running ??? no idea
........................what else ?

8.Is it also true that British Gurkhas Childrends who were born in Hong Kong and Singapore who have secured BNO (British National Overseas )Passport can go directly to Britain and become British Gurkhas if they pass the test ? If so ,will it be same as British Gurkhas recruited from Nepal In terms of salary ,pension etc ?

I would be thankful if you guys could answer these questions ."Naam Liya Saitaan Haazir " bhane jhai "Gurkha " ko naam liney bittikai Chituwa ji aai pugnu hunthyo .Yesh paali pani Chituwa kudera aaunu huncha bhanne aashaa cha !!!!!!

Gurkhas' settlement in UK

Gurkhas who served with the British Army may have the right to settle in Britain following a proposed review of immigration laws, a Kathmandu-based broadsheet reported from London Tuesday.

The (British) Defence Ministry, Home Office and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office have already started the review, which is likely to lead to the Gurkhas being treated as "special cases", The Himalayan Times reported.

"Reports say the move came as increasing numbers of Nepali soldiers turned to the asylum system to claim naturalisation after their military service ended."

"Army chiefs and politicians from all parties have long campaigned for a change of heart in Whitehall regarding the Gurkhas, whose exemplary record and tradition has no bearing on any citizenship application."

Their plight has been taken up in Whitehall by Ann Widdecombe, a Tory MP who has a large Gurkha detachment in the 36 Engineer Regiment in her Maidstone constituency, the report added. nepalnews.com mr Sept 16

Raru ji ,
thanks for the link .I went through the pages and I found the answers for my questions number 7 and 5 only .The related pages also answered my questions that quota for British Gurkhas has been raised from 250 to 300 .Its been confirmed .50 more Gurkha recruitment is wellcomed which means there will be 50 less potential British gurkha soldiers crying out of the Pokhara British camp after the final hurdle .However rest of my 4 questions remained unanswered .You may no have the solid answer for those questions but your personal view will be greatly appreciated .

thanks again
