As I was watching the NTV news on the net, I heard a reporter say : "..... naya sira bata shuru gariyeko chha".
I had always thought "sira" was a Hindi word as in "nai sire se shuru kiya gaya" or something like that. (I am not good in Hindi).
Isn't it appalling to find a national media using a Hindi word in its news report?

It is not appalling to see "foreign" words in any language. If you look up the development of language/s, many of the root words share a common beginning. Also, as languages evolve, new terminologies are created to suit the climate of communication, be it media or otherwise. Nepali language has many "borrowed" words that have been internalized as well aclimatized into the speech patterns of people. You might want to look up linguistic history to understand the fact that the enrichment of languages begins with "borrowing".

dont the ameican's say "guru"?......they dont feel ashamed.
then why is it that only nepali have this feeling of being ashamed when borrowing words from other languages......
why do u say "iron" when you want to press your clothes.......say it in nepali "istri".
why do you say to your friend "movie" herna jau?........say "chalachitra" herna jau.
dont say computer..........say "sushankha"
oh comeon buddy.........try to live higher than the meagre thought of being ashamed while borrowing languages.
