Forwarded email. This may be of relevance/interest to all who are concerned about what is going on in Nepal. Oh, by the way, there's curfew tonight (Wednesday) from 9 pm onward, and, two people -- pinion-style -- are NOT allowed to ride motorcycles anymore. Oh well oohi ashu ktm, nepal ************************************ Sent: 17 September 2003 11:51 Subject: Re: Important Security Information for American Citizens in Nepal September 17, 2003 Important Security Information for American Citizens in Nepal This wardens message is being issued to alert Americans citizens about the Maoist's call for a nationwide "bandh" (forced closure of businesses, schools and vehicular traffic) from September 18 -- 20. This message also advises Americans to exercise heightened security precautions and to maintain a low profile in the lead-up to and during the bandh period. The Maoists have utilized bombings, assassinations and other acts of violence to intimidate and coerce observance of their forced bandh. Given the high level of pre-bandh violence and the unpredictability of these disturbances, American citizens are urged to exercise extra caution both during the lead-up to the proposed bandh and on bandh dates. During the scheduled bandh, official Americans have been advised to limit non-essential travel. American citizens are urged to maintain a low profile throughout the bandh period, traveling as little as possible. If you choose to travel, wait until a pattern of traffic is well-established. Taxi and bus services may not be available. For those with air travel plans who need travel to or from Tribhuvan International Airport, the Nepal Tourism Board indicates plans to run hourly shuttles stopping at major hotels, New Road and the entrance to Thamel for tourists during the bandh days (Sept 18 -- 20). Outside the Kathmandu Valley, Americans are strongly urged not to undertake road travel during the scheduled bandh. Observation of bandhs, particularly the targeting of vehicular transportation, has generally been higher outside the Valley. During past bandhs, a number of buses and trucks have been attacked. Americans should also be aware that Nepali authorities have begun imposing curfews on short notice for various areas, both within and outside Kathmandu. Often the areas affected by the curfew are not clearly defined. Outside the Kathmandu Valley, dusk to dawn curfews have been imposed in many districts. American citizens are advised to monitor evening media broadcasts closely for the latest curfew information and to respect the curfew restrictions. For further information about bandhs, guidance on security measures to be followed in the lead up to and during bandhs, and information about security conditions in Nepal, American citizens are strongly encouraged to refer to the Consular Information Sheet for Nepal which may be found on the Department of State's home page at http://travel.state.gov and the American Embassy in Nepal's home page at http://www.south-asia.com/USA. |

All THEY ever crave for is power and position.they need to put a stop to all of this. Our country is in ruins.Let's hope NEPAL will not become a once -upon -a -time kinda country. |
