Ruminations:

--I got drunk after 4 months yesterday. Not that it matters to anybody (except, of course, my roommates, who must be thinking of me as the weirdest creature on earth), but I realized that alcohol could do wonders when you drink once in a while. This morning I went to the bathroom and as I was about to brush my teeth one of my hallmates shouted, hey, what you doing with your razor? I realized that I had put the toothpaste on my razor, not my tooth brush! Moral of the story: drink REGULARLY so that you dont get so hung over.

--My morning begins with Kantipuronline and Newsofnepal these days. Newsofnepal says my raashifal today is yaatraa. And I have to read 300 pages for a seminar tomorrow. I guess it is going to be a long and boring yaatraa of Labor and Social Economics book. Just out of curiosity: does the raashifal apply only to Nepalis who are in Nepal or does it remain valid even if you are far away from Nepal? Given the present circumstances in the world and especially in Nepal (where so many people are moving to foreign lands, especially India), I think this question is of utmost significance.

--Recently I have been engaged in relating proverbs to events and vice versa. Now, what saying would best describe the scenario if Thapa was sacked and Madhav Kumar Nepal was made the Prime Minister? When one door of happiness closes, another door opens. But we concentrate so much on the closed door that we do not see all the bhare bhure parties that are keeping the new door open. And we never know when one of those parties is going to withdraw its support.

--An email from a perspective college applicant read: Dear MP (name changed), My SAT.. score.. is ---, TOEFL score.. is ---- and& I& got ---% in 10+2. Will& I.. get.. into your.. college? I replied in one sentence, It depends. On what? the person wrote back. So I wrote him, Among other things, on the relative elasticity of demand for applicants. I later realized that was quite mean. But, heck, I am not in the admission committee to tell if anyone will get in! A couple of days ago, I received an email from another perspective applicant that read exactly the same (except, of course, for the scores). I did not want to be mean this time. I replied, Please rephrase your question, so I can help you better. And get rid of those dots between the words that have been freaking me out; you are emailing me, not chatting with me in MSN! Anyway, why have so many people fallen in love with dots these days? MSN seems to have ruined our lives.

Have a great week ahead.

M.P. jiu,

Good to hear that you started drinking...but I am not sure if this is your first time after a short break or a long one?

So you did have a great weekend drinking, thats good...atleast for a change its good.
I was so fed up of drinking I quit drinking. This is not the first time I have done so, I do that amost every 6 months or so and then restart again. As I don't have any other bad habits as people call it, except chatting too much on msn...(hehe..I hate chat rooms and don't really know if this could be calssified as bad) so...to have atleast have one bad habit (I am not sure if this is bad , no offence to those who don't think its bad) so I had started drinking after a while. We drink together in our family, so it may not be a big issue for me to drink here too..

The last time i quit drinikng was when, I along with my 4 friends were taken to Baggi khana ( Singadurbar aagai ) and locked up for 4 hrs. I thought it was bad to drink that bad and said quit till was here in Us. To make the situation worse, one of my friend was so drunk he fell of the chair in front of the police hakim saab...

So it was like 8 months I was away from alcohol....but there were times, when I finished all the cocktails in nangle pub, finishing all the types one after the other, not to forget that I had to pay13,000 NRs in the end (don't tell my family members, they will know how I used to throw away money so wild).

BUt M.P. jiu, I still say drinking time and again is good for everything....if I could come for your dashain party, we could drink together...but sorry I can't make it and I have quit drinking temporiraly, and its been almost 2 months, doesnot that sound good.

La ta best of luck and have a good week ahead, and everyone else in sajha...

always lonely,

MP jyu, what refreshing ruminations.

There's this mystic charm about drinking aint it? After the tiger theory on drinking was getting devalued, we came up with a more practical one. Oh well, the basic concept is the same. When the brain goes through those strenous schedules in the week, it is trying it best to get rid of those weak and worn out cells. But our brain has other important things to take care of, (like surfing in sajha to find one refreshing rumination ;)). So, then what do we do? Yes, like many intricate systems of our body, we need a recycling center, and to optimize the recycling centers, we need enzymes and proteins :). Yes you got it right. When you read the label next time, do not read of how much proof it is, but rather, how efficiently it is gonna get rid of your worn out cells. Poor me, my worn out cells have become resistant to the light beers. These days, the only enzyme that works for me J_D -5:)

M.P jyu, putting toothpaste on the razor reminded me of my own story at the end of the last semester. After the dreaded organic chem exam, which happend to be on the first day of the finals, everyone in my class had decided, the finals were over ;). It was the first all american party I had attended. So needless to say, the theme was drinking, more drinking, and passing out! By 5 pm iwas so wasted that I decided to call my work and tell that I couldn't make it that evening. I was feeling really strange for I tried calling like 15 times but noone picked up the phone instead, would go the answering machine. and that was that.

Next morning, I woke up to find in my room. HOw did i get home? errr....kinda hazy. The next thing I realize, my answering machine flashing, and I press on the start button to realize "you have fifteen messages" and each of them was angry shouting of myself telling myself that I can't make it to work tonite :)

Yes, some memories are indelible in life, and this thing called alcohol helps to make those memorable ;) re kya ajha!

I got a message from San dai asking me to repost this thread as the one I posted earlier was posted twice. Let me try if it gets posted only once this time.
-------------------

Sometimes I feel I am the biggest culprit here, sharing less and taking more from others. Too low *pradaan*, too much *aadaan*. Mine were just a few ruminations and see what I get in return--interesting episodes from Oys and Lonely of their lives! Next time I get a chance, I will try to increase the amount of *pradaan* (though I always have this feeling that too much of my *pradaan* would be torturous to the rest of the people here). Till then, thanks a bunch for doing so much *pradaan* to me. :)

---> Thanks for relating your sweet dreams to meeting us during Dashain.
---> By the way, we don't have to wait for Dashain to get drunk! I mean, subha kaam maa kina byaalo? :) Let me know if you are coming to Philly area.
