I m puzzled my car was stolen on the day i bought, but recovered soon. Today surprisingly someone stole the front wheel of my car from the parking lot. What other kind of theft problem have any one of you experience or heard of in Amrica? I never imagined that people steal the wheel of a standing car in the parking lot...
Arnico Posted on 28-Sep-03 03:01 AM

Bhunte, sorry to hear that your car has become a teen-pangre. Hope your insurance covers the loss!

I'm curious though what the theft has to do with the country...
Bhunte Posted on 28-Sep-03 04:08 AM

Arnico,

I agree w/ theft has no thing to do with the country. But my surprise was the car was jacked and a wheel was pulled out from the parking lot. I know the whole unit of auto or bikes are frequently stolen, but never thought about if 'pangraa' could be stolen. Thanks for the suggestion if my auto insurance covers that. Ya it looked like tin pangre tempo, but i replaced with the spare tyre.

Bhunte:

Sorry to hear that one fourh of your wheel power has been taken away from you withouth your permission.

However, I think this experience provides a very good opportunity for a well trained economist like your self to make the most accurate calculations to figure out how much contribution to the GDP any car theft provides. Remember, every pack of cigarettea also contributes to the GDP as well as the billions spent on anti-tobacco initiatives and oncology services. As a matter of fact, you could write a real good "case" out of this not so pleasant experience and have it copy righted and of couse, as all loyal capitalist would do, sell the "case" to the Kennedy School of Government, where else but at hahvaaaaaaad!

Good luck!!!!

I am not aware of a country where thieves ask the owner for a permission to steal his property. I would say YES if my heart is stolen by some known thief.

Hmm...thx for ur suggestion. But, i am afraid that illegal goods and services like drugs, prostitutions, theft, bulglary, etc dont contribute to the GDP. Wonderful and weired idea to sell and patent the case to HAVD's KSG. Harvard sanga kun juni ko ris iwi ho? Ki harvard ko keta haru le dhoka diyo ki kaso testo hatteredness ko lagi? Harey (harvard) Shiva (stanford)!... eheheh

Further, I am a firm believer of capitalistic school of thought unconditionally. thats all for now.

Kiddo Posted on 28-Sep-03 05:50 AM

As far as other theft occurances, the hottest theft going around is Stealing of Nissan Headlights I think it is the Maxima headlights which costs around 2,000 dollars just to replace and install . Be careful, ask your parking lot attendant if any of such theft has occured.

Who knows BHUNTE's heart is being stolen by one of the Sajhaites. Bhunte, have u given her permission?????

Well, I need to go back and turn the pages of FUNDAMENTAL ECONOMICS...let me go thru' the GDP stuffs again.... i am confused -"wat r the factors that affect GDP..." I just came to know about new thing today.
yatree Posted on 28-Sep-03 08:59 AM

Bhunte,

If the thefts happened at the palce of your residence, then find another neighborhood. If you continue to live there, it will happen again. Just move.

Hahahahaha! reminded me of my bicycle theft in the United Kingdom. Let me tell a short story.

Students could not afford cars in the UK as do they do in the US. Everybody had to ride their bicycle to go from one place to another within a limit of 10 miles wide city. However, they took public busses or trains to go elsewhere. I had bought a 18-gear mountain bike that I used to ride everywhere I needed to go - Matalon, Tesco, Sainsburry. I toured every corner of Reading, Sonning and nearby cities.

I locked my bicycle on the bicycle stand behind the Reading Mall. I spent more than two hours in and around tha mall before I returned to take my bicycle out. I unlocked the key, latched it on the frame and climbed on the seat. Suddenly, I felt my bicycle is not moving. What the heck is this?

I climbed down to check any problems with the break. Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My rear wheel was gone. A thief had taken all of the rear wheel. There was nothing I could do. Parts of my bicycle was taken off in the middle of the day, in front of many people, except me. I locked the remaining frame on the stand and left for a bicycle shop.

I asked the bicycle shop owner for an estimate. Tire 15, chain 12, tube 10, gears 25, fitting charge 12;....... GBP 74. My god! To be honest to you here, I had bought that bike from one of my returning Nepali friend for GBP 35. I though I would look for used tires....I left the frame and front wheel of my bike on the stand, still locked by the frame.

I took a bus to go to the town two days later. Naturally, I happened to go and see the once reliable friend of my travel. The frame was still attached to the stand. However, I could see that my old friend was hanging by the stand... well too short to its 36" height. Now, I could see that it had lost its front wheel and the good seat too. Only the parts that were still attached to the stand were the handle, triangular frame, pedal and breaks. Hahahahaha... I could do nothing but laugh.

Now I realized, I should get something from my dying friend. Then I thought somebody needs this stand to have their bike stolen. I unlocked the frame, put the lock in my bag, gave a final look to my bike (I was damn sure, it will be taken away by that evening). Next day, I went to see if the 'antim kriyakarma' was done for my bike. It was.... All of the bike had gone by that time, except the lock.

I didnot want to buy another good bike. There was Sunday market at the Palmer's Park the other weekend. I found a used bike with 15-gears for 15. That was very good for me, except I needed to have some repairs. I bought another old bike for 10. This one was about to go to the antique shop, if somebody was interested. I took the required part out of the ragged bike and fixed it to the better one.

I got my bike for GBP 25 that ran for another four months until I returne to Nepal. Without fail, I sold that bike for 20 dollars to my incoming friend.

Mero bicycle ko story yetti ho.

Bikes. I spent $30 on a used bike, and $35 on a "good" lock for it. You get the idea!

Does the insurance pay for a "hit and run" scenario??
Bhunte Posted on 28-Sep-03 06:32 PM

Kiddo: that info is useful and new to me.

Neural: Yes, I have give someone here to steal it and make most out of it. But, she thinks my heart is some ANCIENT re. Probably it has antique value to her.

Yatree: Thx for your suggestion. I live around university area and the neighbourhood is good. Moving to a new apt is a big hassel, but will think if the problem reoccur.

Bal Matlab: Yo bhunte le jhut bolna janya chhaina.

Parakhi: Yes, I often see Bicycles without wheel or seat often.

Echoes: thx for ur suggestion. I had a bicycle with a good U lock, but I put that in a side street with a take away notice. It was immediately taken away. Am not i generous?

RF: no idea

Back in country it is easy to figure out how Chor would look like. We sometime hear someone remarking to someone "oh, tyo manchhe ta kasto chor jasto". But, here I just wonder how they look like. People all around i run across seems nice, bhaladmi, gentle, well fed, good cultured, etc. Wish the real chors here are kept in the zoo and I be able to see them just to get an idea how do they look like.

rickynepal Posted on 28-Sep-03 08:24 PM

It's really interesting story about that bicycle. Thanks God !! so far I don't have to face such a problem.
