Hey guys,
Just one curiosity has pulled me into this site that i may get some help from many educated and helpful members out here. Any economist, any person who knows the economics, or any student who had done research on this topic are welcome. Funny suggestions are not welcome. Can anybody help me on the causes of Recession 2001 in the US economy? You can give me the link regarding that materials, or can personally write on this topic based on ur knowledge.I am in deep need of data and figures rather than theoretical conclusions.
thanks for co-operation.

Gemini,
Are you the same gemini (M's sissi) ??
By anysense I am not an arthbid but have little interest in money as I'm sure almost all of us care about more than anything else. Anyway, to your qurey you may find useful to visit Professor Nouriel Roubini's Global Macroeconomic and Financial Policy Site at the Stern School of Business, New York University

You may find other sites from there...

If you are interested in US recession in 2001, probably do some more googling using the key words economic growth cycle and similar words...hope that helps

bhunte, since you seem to be the best econ. directive over here, can you tell me where to find nepal's econ stats(updated and accurate). I would really appreciate that.

P.S. gemini and the others who will view this- I'm apologize for posting a message that did not belong in this thread.

ru le malai ta runu na hasnu banai halyo ni la...

anyway, it depends on what kind of info u r looking for. the national economic statistics are available at Central Beauro of Statistics. The info are updated annually, and for certain information they update every 5 or ten year or so...Probably Ashu can help you in this regard about the type of data you need from Nepal and their sources...

however, international institutions like World Bank, Asian Development Bank, FAO also collect certain eco info. I would suggest to buy a data on a CD-rom by world bank titled "World Development Indicators 2000" it costs about 20 bucks. It has many useful economic info for diff countries, and is a time series data. Check in the stat divsion of the above listed organization. the web site is

Thanks Bhunte jyu. Atleast, one person thought to reply me. I appreciate that.I thought Sajha would be a full of economists. I was wrong.Probably, all members are MIS, CIS or other majors. No business major. No PHD in economics. Now, i am thinking to go for PHD in economics. But let me be an eligible candidate. And,Bhunte jyu, i dont know which Gemini you are talking about. Sorry for that. Thanks again.

chill out:)

Incidentally, with so many Nepalis unemployed, underemployed or heading to other countries for jobs, if your interests extend to understanding Nepali labor market,
then this site -- developed with the help of International Labor Organization --
provides good background materials (though the site still needs to be updated).

Enjoy!!

Hello,

My name is Deepak Bista Dalke Topi Pyuthane and do consulting for the Standard Bank. I also am a performance and treatrical Chef for deceloping Nepalese cuisine beyond tradition (that is paleo conservative) and beyond borders.

American Economic Outlook in my opinion is this:

US RECOVERY: CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR

It is nearly two years to the day the american nation suffered its worst-ever terrorist attack on home ground, an attack that hastened the country's spiral into recession, the second in the past decade. But waht proved to be a short-lived recession has been followed by an ardous and protracted recovery. This begs the question: how close is the US economy to reverting to the hey days of + 4% GDP growth ? Probably not far, but the road ahead is still riddled with potholes. These include the threat of deflation-which could stall economic growth further (a deflationary gap situation)-twin deficits (fiscal and on the balance of payments of the country) and sluggishness in the other developed economies.

Notwithstanding this, the US index of leading economic indicators (See Bloomberg), an index that aggregates a number of indicators that improve ahead of a general recovery (that is, their improvement leads and helps to drive the recovery), points to a turnaround by year-end. However, my post-doctoral research in economics indicates that despite the closeness with which real annual US GDP growth has followed the lead index, note the temporary improvement in growth recorded during the second half of 2002.

But since that mild recovery, more stimuli have been injected into the US economy. two more interest rate cuts have reduced the Federal Funds rate 9which guides other interest rates) to 1% and taxes have been reduced. Still, investment might only accelerate when demand shows convincing signs of recovery. This in turn will only happen once the US economy begins to create jobs. But job creation in turn requires business investment and expansion. Clearly, the recovery process is precariously balanced on a knife's edge.

Unfortunately, America's economic woes have not been geographically contained. The Euro region and many other economies, both developed and developing, have reflected part of the strain, whether it be as a result of trade links with economic powerhouse or by mere default-for examle, the US dollar's downward correction has translated into other currencies' appreciation, among them Euro, the yen, sterling and even the rand. In some instances, this has moderated export growth in these countries.

Consequently, as business and overall economic sentiment in Euroland remain far off the high reached in mid 2000, it is difficult to envisage a recovery in this region by year end. This could. potentially, render the US recovery even more arduous.

I am very sceptical anything about Ashutosh Tiwari says. I know he is a wannabe merchant banker, has interest in China and Chinese language for Guangxi network connections. He claims to be a Bin Fa Master of Strategic Games through his economics Harvard degree. However, he does not understand Strategic Management as he has no MBA degree and has no experience in business as a Senior Manager like me in a world class international merchant bank. Poor Ashutosh that I pity his limitations and in the meantime he can still promote Nepali economic outlook via high achievers like Sanjib Bhandari and ever fearful Gautam Rana as the Communists declare urban warfare.

So long for now.
