Hi all, Some of us Sajha folks in Kathmandu have decided to put together the first-ever somewhat-organized Sajha Gathering in this ancient city of CatManDo. Dhyan.ta.ryan!!! *************** We'll get to know one another, do guff-suff, laugh, smile, recite Nepe's gazals, and start building an informal but fun community of like-minded folks in this great city of CatManDo in these happy pre-Tihar times. Those of you who are home for Dassain/Tihar, do come, say hello and make new friends and make old friendships stronger. Sangey and Mrs Sangey, Village Voice, Najar, Niranjan, Marich, Torilauray and many others whose names I cannot recall right at this moment. . . hope you are all reading this . . . spread the word around, and please take this as an invitation. Come, one and all. Day: Saturday Date: October 18, 2003 Place: Denchenling Restaurant, Thamel (behind Himalayan Java/Nanglo) Time: 4 pm onward. Denchenling Restaurant has a nice court-yard, and serves Indian, Bhutanese and Nepali food. Questions? Concerns? Email me at: ashu@sajha.com oohi ashu ktm, nepal |

Why do sajaites always use darbaria bhasa. Why can't they use language a regular nepali would use. They are either children of darbar's kiss ass or wanna be kiss ass. Come on guys be progressive and don't try to boost your social status by associating yourself with darbar( which is already know to be a filthy institution). |

If you"wanna be royal" talk like "yoral" then oviously you want to think like "royal" and act like "royal". That means you want to act like stupid ass, high school drop out. Your mentors are not the one who speak regular nepali but those royals who think they are superior to others just because they were born in that family. I can't believe most of you live in US and still admire royal institution. |

Goredai hazur, dayummm kyaaa dincha, wah wah!! Does that mean I can use "bakshyos", "sakshyos", "hazur" etc etc? You see, I am a stupid bum, highschool drop out, I possess pure liiide-dhippi attitude, all my mentors are jackass and I was not born in the royal family, but I wanna walk, talk and act royal... and I think i am superior to others because I am stupid and there is no other stupid but me. ;). So are you up for khasi ko hyakulla and imported tharra yet? ;) comeon, I am stupid but not stingy. thats the reason why I changed my name to sTu... makes sense, naah? should I call myself sTu: the royal ass kisser yet? ;) |

Ashu, Thanks for your leadership. Sounds fun. To go with the agenda I too, will bring a ghazal haamro Nepe jyu wrote for me on my birthday, and will recite it aloud :) Ashu, add another important component to the agenda--sajhaites haru ko kura kaatne, this is one component that never goes untouched, so we might as well make it an integral element of sajha get together(s) :) Kalnkisthan jyu---gaffadddiiii, hawa guff dine!! Baru, we will be missing Kalanki and SuziQ's duet on "Piya tuu ab ta aaja" You still got a week of time, why don't you hop on the plane while picking Suziq on the way--Poonte dai ra bhauju ko pani aauna milchha ki? :) La la superhighway ko fast lane maa BMW daudai haalam: P Goredai jyu--Ohhh, not again! How about you, why do you too, not use the nepali font or romanized nepali? On this board we have seen people using a wide spectrum of english--top notch, shakesperean, flabbersgasting with having to refer dictionary for every second line, tutefuteko with nepali mixed like mine, rastafarian (which i greatly enjoy), quintessentially nepalipan aaune like Jira's, guna dai' and so many other types. So why do you or any others have problem with the use of language that we grew up with, are comfortable using. Regardless of its origin, how, what we use it is simply to get teh message across, communicate and entertainment. My request to you and others who are annoyed with the use of such language is simply to get the point and not focus on the linguistic partso much if you cannot withstand it--for we are not linguistics, nor are writing to please all. Kripaya narisaunu hola, am not directing it just to you--have seen the issue on multiple threads! Sitara--thank you, and you too have a wonderful Tihar. How is the new house, btw? Suna-- sure, no problem. Parera (not padhera) jaaneko kura khaana ra piuna kahile pachhi parna hundaina rey. I will now have to have three drinks for sure --one on your name, one on sajha's name and one on my own name--yedi ma tipsy bhae bhane chahi the blame is on you :) I have not forgotten *the conversation*, please e-mail me the details hai. Rusty--i thought you too, were coming home for dashain, tihar. Khai ta? Sgy, lilo look forward to meeting you two! Arnico, are you sure you don't want to cut short your stay at the sasurali muluk? :) *********************************** One another sajhaites that has to show up to this get together is Brook. Brooooookkkk, my friend, kataaa ho aajkal? Please come hai if you can. ---------------- I have also run into a few silent readers of sajha in Ktm. If any of you are reading this, please stop by, show up-- it will be fun! |

Thank you all, again, for your warm words. Today is Friday, and tomorrow, Saturday, is the day of Sajha Gathering in Kathmandu. I have spoken to quite a few of you, and it's great that you are all going to be there. Thanks too to Najar who's has been an excellent ambassador for and of Sajha in Kathmandu. Brook, whoever you are, yes, please bring a camera or two. It's really neat that a Web site like this can help bring so many people, who would not have known one another otherwise, together. See you all tomorrow at Dechenling. DECHENLING http://www.tn.com.np/tn/restaurants.htm Thamel; Tel: 4-412-158 Located in the heart of Thamel [behind Himalayan Java] the Dechenling Beer Garden and Restaurant is a quiet haven amidst the din and bustle of the city. The discerning guest is greeted with a profusion of flowers and greenery in an ambiance of tranquillity. One of the finest and exclusive restaurants, the Dechenling serves authentic Tibetan, Bhutanese and Nepali cuisine. ********* Iso Freak, too bad that you are not here :-) oohi ashu ktm, nepal |

I forgot to mention that though Dechenling's prices are actually reasonable by Thamel standards, I will talk to the owners and ask for discounts for our gathering. Maybe they can get creative and serve us each a special bowl of "Sajha. com Soup" or something :-) Since we will be out in the court-yard, everyone, please wear a light jacket or something like that. oohi ashu ktm, nepal |

Hi all, The gathering went very well. Altogether 17 people (6 females and 11 males) showed up, many of them meeting one another for the first time ever. Snatches of initial conversations were, like: "Are you really Marich? You don't look like Marich at all. You look like Jira." "I always thought Vivid was a man, but wrong I was." "So you are Sangey who has some Dharan-Darjeeling connection?" "Who's Brook? Brook's supposed to take our pictures." "If Poonte had been here, we would all be on the floor, laughing." "Are Poonte and Bhunte Daju-bhai? They sound like daju-bhai on Sajha." "Aren't you, Nazar, supposed to recite Nepe's gazals?" And on and on. Altogether 6 countries were represented (as in from where these people used to access Sajha): Nepal, the US, Belgium, China, the UK and, Canada. Over chicken chilly, vegetable pakuda, cheese pakauda, finger chips, momos, buffalo wings, beer, a peg of brandy, Coke, countless cups of chiya and more food, conversations ranged over a diverse set of topics for three hours. Maybe others can post both PHOTOS and add more here. oohi "satisfied at how well the gathering turned out to be" ashu ktm, nepal |

The young expat women, honorary sajhaites were thankful for the welcome offered to them. "suntali" is all determined to start writing, and she knows some nepali too. Some recollections.... Lots of good food, vivid jyaan laagyo? :P , spacious courtyard and a nice setting...and people who'd been there in the past did a good job in making selection except did not get to try that fokso stuff....kataa gayechha tyo brook, ashu? Brook, I and two of my friends were looking hard for the "tul" as kalanki would say outside the java, but discovered it further up at the entrance of Denchling. It said "Welcome to Sajha Friend's Marich surprised the hell out Ashu by laying out his vangshawoli, such as his father's, forefather's name and other details when ashu had no idea who marich was. Someone asked marich what his real name was --he said: "ma marich ni aba, tei ho mero naam" Marich was accompanied by his bhinaju to whom everybody started calling bhinaju. Haamro marich jyu ra bhinaju Narayanghat baata aauna saath get together maa sawari bhaa rey. Now thats called a real sajha spirit, isn't it? :) We had nice name placards with our sajha name and real name on it. Brook had his real name on one side and sajha name on the other. Not seeing his sajha name, marich wonders aloud--"Brook pani aaune bhanya hoina, khai ta?" A long time friend of mine, who did not know my sajha identity, who'd come with villagevoice dai seeing my placard says--"Najar rey, what????" The two honorary sajhaites were stuck at figuring out what one of our sajhaite's name "torilaure" meant. Did we ever resolve that predicament amid many meanings? I had liked vivid's expln to it--a lahure who walks around in the village with a large full volumed taperecorder on his shoulder, wears a plastic goggles.....and someone said--a lahure who goes to pick tori (mustard). was good to see sgy and lilo in person--after all, we had to wait till we got to ktm despite our proximity in the US, no? :) same w/ vivid, torilaure and several silent readers, as well as guests. Equally good to catch up w/ Villagevoice dai and "A" again in a non-NY location :) and the silent readers that came yesterday, i hope you all start to write, as promised! naam chahi khusukka bhanam hai haamlai . Collectively, we discovered there are so many silent readers in ktm, more than we knew there were. And tyo Kalnkisthan jyu lai maile jaanya chhu, tessai malai gauna naachna jaanya chha bhanera halla failaaera, ma raato peero banna paryo--waitibaksyos , sauni ko chhori lai nabhadkaai ta kaaha chhodchhu ra? Aajai phone number khojchhu tyo naya connection ko directory maa :P Poonte dai---mero pink shirt ta amrika mai chhutechha, so had to wear a guniyo choli instead; tyo pink laaune chahi arkai customer pareen jasto chha. Nonetheless, euta kura chahi milakai ho dai le--vivid was sitting next to me and was smiling musu musu listening to my guffs. ******************************************* Brook, after talking about it yesterday, it was an interesting follow up to see Deepak Thapa and Bandita's "The Kingdom Under Siege" book review on Sunday times today by Pratyoush Onta --did you see it? .Have picked up teh book today, am looking fwd to the read. This topic has come and gone many times but wanted to see if there a real interest in getting this going since there are a good number of us in the capital. Anybody interested to start a book club? Brook, didn't you also start a thread some few weeks ago, any progress on that? Sabai ktm based interested sajhaites haru...lau na ...lets give this some shape. ********************************************* sorry to write everything here, aaja ali hataar chha....aru chhute kaa kura haru upon swadesh firtaa next week. Marich dai, lilo--have a safe trip back to the US--the rest, see you around. And lastly, Ashu thanks for organizing this--was fun. |

Over chicken chilly, vegetable pakuda, cheese pakauda, finger chips, momos, buffalo wings, beer, a peg of brandy, Coke, countless cups of chiya and more food, conversations ranged over a diverse set of topics for three hours. Maybe others can post both PHOTOS and add more here. oohi "satisfied at how well the gathering turned out to be" ashu ---------------- La badai cha, tapai haru lai for making the gathering a success and above all no brawls post drink session. >>>I plan to come back to Nepal in december/jan..any gatheirngs around that time??? << That time of the year is perfect for "Bhogatay Party". What we will do is get lusciously, juicy bhogatays on one winter afternoon, and get together in a wide kaushi. Peel the bhogatays off. Put the pieces in a big baata. Throw in oranges ko 'keshra'. Pour in "dahee", some cooking oil, sesame seeds, salt, khoor.sani ko dhulo and assorted masalas. And then gently knead the contents of the baata for some time, before serving. One of the purest, joyous ways to enjoy Kathmandu's wintry sunshine days. oohi ashu ktm, nepal |

Hi Ashu (the nepal correspondent for sajha!), brook, najar, mr and mrs. sangey, marich, vivid, and others. It was nice meeting you and the guff suff at Dechenling was real fun, though we all had to rush to our own weekend appointments :) and let me share this with all the sajhapures. since my arrival in kathmandu in july, i have come across tons of people who seem to be happy as silent readers (would never want to show up at Dechenling, for example) and are quite familiar with a lot of (pen) names. Happy Tihar !!!! |

I have enjoyed reading the writings of almost all sajhanivasis. They have caused me to reevaluate certain notions and positions, educated me, had me in fits of laughter and delighted me with heart warming prose and poetry. What is enduring is the warmth and intelligence of the writers. What I PRIZE, however, is the ANONYMITY under which I may venture forth in my thoughts. I VALUE the ability to retain a MASK, real of imagined, from behind which I am free to responsibly express thoughts. Responsibly is the key. If I am to be mercilessly stripped of it, for any reason other than criminal activity on my part, then I have no wish to be part of this or any other cyber community. I REQUIRE that others here respect my wishes, just as I do my utmost to respect YOURS and do my best to make ammends of I do not. I fail to see responsible behaviour here. Human curiosity is endless and it is this trait that possibly lead to discoveries and inventions throughout the history of man. It also got the cat killed. On an online forum, it is recumbent on us collectively to RESPECT the WISHES for those that have chosen to remain anonymous. In seeking to publicly identify writers, A, B or C , perhaps we forget that in attempting to slake our curiousity, we are violating their RIGHT and WISH to remain anonymous here. I stated my objections to this public unmaksing when the NY Sajha extravaganza was posted on this site. I object to it again now. Sure, I am not in thease pictures here and those that are were aware their pics was going to be posted on this site. However, was express permission received from them that they would be entering the 'LETS-PUT-NAMES-TO-FACES' sweepstakes ? Have any of us paused to consider if they are comfortable with it ? Some might even say, its not you so why the hue and cry? In giving free reign to our imagination and even nosiness, perhaps we ought to consider the discomfort our conduct imposes on the objects of our fascination and admiration. They may not say it aloud, but it is HIGHLY LIKELY that just about everyone in that picture would prefer NOT to be ID'd and disected here. I expect a barrage of cleverly worded justifications, but I ask every reader here to honestly examine their conscience on this before throwing brickbats. A good day to you all. |

I'm sorry but I'm nust say some of you look pretty funny. Nothing personal. Most people have said Nice pcture and so on .. I agree with you'll if you meant it in the sense that it's nice because of the variety and number of faces. But honestly, in terms of picture quality, it's not one of the nicest pictures. There's not enough light in some areas, it's not focussed well. Dear photographer, better luck next time. |

Sitara jyu, If I recollect correctly, Ashu chose to be himself from the get go and Najar consented to having her picture featured here for her birthday so I have no objections to any remarks identifying her. Hazoor lai galti inzaam lagauney buddhi ra sahas kahan cha ra mero? The question that remains, though, is if the others in the picture are getting a fair roll of the dice. |

Completely agree with CZAR. However, posing for the picture, they surely must have talked about posting it here on Saja and being revealed? For the ones who want to remain anonymos, I suggest not taking picture, especially if name that tune (picture) game will be played here as we now know happened. Again, as SITARA has expressed remorse for unintentionally initiating it, there is that curiosity of putting face with all these people you "know" in the cyber world. I myself was looking for Ashu - just like that name, really. |

Czar, with due respect, I must say that judging from what u just wrote, hyperbole seems to be your forte. Noone is attempting to "dissect" anyone's personality here. If you willingly have your picture taken for the express purpose of having it posted on a discussion board, chances are people are going to try and figure out who is who. All they are doing is exercising deductive reasoning using information that the people in the picture themselves have voluntarily shared on this website. Invasion of privacy? I beg to differ. You seem to be advocating that we exercise some restraint. That we should somehow keep our temptations in check. Sure, Father Czar, whatever you say. I will do my best next time. :) |
