King honours Manisha Koirala
nepalnews.com br Oct.11

Manisha Koirala was one of eight NRNs [NonResident Nepalis] honoured by King Gyanendra by awarding her a certificate in the capital Saturday. The King opened the first four-day conference of NRNs.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bhunte Posted on 11-Oct-03 05:32 PM

Manisha Koiral is beautiful with brain. I heard that she plans for a business investment in Nepal. Ashu, do you have some more info about it?
paad ka Posted on 11-Oct-03 06:44 PM

What did she receive a certificate for??....Is it cause she is a skank that stars in gayass Hindi films???
justme Posted on 11-Oct-03 07:42 PM

paadka...don't be a B****...We all know she's more and better than just that.Respect dude.
mildseven Posted on 11-Oct-03 08:34 PM

respect for what?fFor being a popular bollywood movie actress from nepal? for being a koirala? for having plans to invest in nepal? naah. not me.
sapphire Posted on 11-Oct-03 08:39 PM

Well, what did she receive the certificate for? if she did for being a popular Nepali figure in Bollywood, then how about Udit Narayan Jha? well the news should have been clear enough.

Bhunte Posted on 11-Oct-03 09:24 PM

mildseven and others,

To our common guess i believe it is for her plan to invest in Nepal, as the NRN conference's focus/context on business investement in nepal. Since Ashu is attending the meeting, probably he can shed some light on it.
Biswo Posted on 11-Oct-03 10:00 PM

I am also a bit disappointed at the fact that Udit was not felicitated, while Manisha was. If I remember correctly, Manisha has invested in Bombay in a star hotel, and plans to make a movie. She has also expressed desire to help Nepal, invest in Nepal in various ways. She is seriously concerned about chelibeti bechbikhan thing. So, she definitely deserves to be felicitated. However, Udit is more popular in India because he has stayed at the top for so long, and is likely to stay at the top for some more years. If you discount the prejudiced report from dubious Pushkar shrestha and company, Udit is equally Nepal-loving person. His help to Nepali Moviemakers when they went to Bombay was illustrious, and almost every moviemaker attests to that. So, why was Udit not included in that group of Nepali to be felicitated?

I am afraid it is a descrimination rather than oversight. However, I hope I am wrong.
sparsha Posted on 11-Oct-03 10:40 PM

I second all who say Udit Narayan should have been honored. He derserves to be honored, in my opinion.

I, honestly, don't think Udit Narayan is dying for a certificate from an organization in Nepal to realize his achievements but why feel shy to recognize someone who is recognized by no less than half a billion people without any introduction?

Bhunte Posted on 11-Oct-03 11:03 PM

List of people who were felicitated as Special Non-Resident Nepali in recognition of their outstanding performance in their respective countries of residenceare as below:

Dr Upendra Mahato (Russia)
Bhim Udas (World Food Program, Italy)
Manisha Koirala (India)
Dr Shyam Dhoj Karki (US,
Dr Raghav Dhital (UK)
Dev Kaji Dangol (Qatar)
Ram Pratap Thapa (Germany)
Shree Krishna Shrivatsa Pun (Thailand)

Best wishes for some of Sajhites here to bag such reconization in future...

LMAO at you gullible fools.....The only way this hooker will invest in Nepal is if she opens up a brothel to teach other actresses how to be skank like her....Whatever she invests in Nepal will ultimately go to Girija to help him purchase the latest catheters for his urinary bladder crisis...Manisha has not done anything for Nepal, in fact these Koirala morons along with Gyanendra " I killed my brother" Shah have put the country in such a pitiable state....And anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot
thugged out Posted on 12-Oct-03 06:23 AM

Uh, looks like someone's been passing wind more often than a guy stuffed on burritos. For that inkling of possibility that she's gonna do something for Nepal, felicitating her was the right thang ta do. Now whoever doesn't agree with me just crapped out a fullsized sub.
putali7 Posted on 12-Oct-03 09:38 AM

I think it is just a dumba** decision of nepalese authorities. Nepalese are proud for her stupid third grade "Ek chhoti si Love Story" kind of movie???. Shouldn't we proud for UditNarayan's contribution to Nepalese MUSIC sector? What is Manisha's contribution on Nepalise Financial or Cultural sector?
madhesi Posted on 12-Oct-03 10:24 AM

BISWO ..

Didn't Udit once said in some interview that he was never a Nepalese citizen? You can see detail by clicking HERE . May be that has something to do with his failure to be nominated for this award.

I do not think there is an discrimination here when I see names like Mahato, Srivastav in the list.
Biswo Posted on 12-Oct-03 11:40 AM

Madhesi,

I couldn't read the interview, but anyway that interview(if I correctly guess the interview you are providing link) was disputed later by Udit, if I remember correctly. And the person in the list is Shrivatsa(Pun), not srivatsab, according to Kantipur. As for Mahatoji, the less said the better.

But, those who are honored are not necessarily required to be Nepali, if I understand it correctly. NRN means those Nepali who have left Nepal, though the definition doesn't seem very clear.I have read Udit's interviews in Kantipur after he won national prizes of India, and he has always been very gracious to share the prize with all nepalese.

>>>>Now whoever doesn't agree with me just crapped out a fullsized sub. <<<<

Hey guys, i do not care which side of the arguments you are in.You guys have the right to express your opinions. However, you guys do not have the same status regarding your "nonsense" and "out of control" statement that a person with against-your-opinion should be "an idiot" and "a fullsized sub". This is my viewpoint. I do not say that anyone who does not follow me as so..so...I hope all sajhaites will get my point. So, you have right to post your opinions but not to compel others to follow the same.I ask you guys to act as nice and amicable sajhaites.
thanks

gemini Posted on 12-Oct-03 12:04 PM

Dont hope every sajhaites will give a big clap for this kind of remarks.I hope other sajhaites will support(not follow) me and my view to oppose this kind of trends(i.e., to name others as "an idiot" and "crap").I just ask you to support me if you think in my way.I dont mean you have to do it anyhow.

chill out:)
madhesi Posted on 12-Oct-03 01:35 PM

Biswo:

i was not not aware Udit disputed that interview. I myself being from Mades was shocked to see that interview! I am glad he refuted that news! Now I am upset that he did not get this award!

I am aware one does not have to be Nepali citizen to get that award. Many of the NRN are non-nepali citizen. Thanks for pointing out my error in reading Shrivatsa vs Shrivastav.

peda Posted on 12-Oct-03 01:46 PM

Judging by the column, it sounds like everybody has contributed so much for the cause of Nepal. I feel for myself- till this age (more than half judging by the average age of Nepali man) I have not done anything substantial.
Manisha is a popular actress in Bollywood and by helping herself, she has helped in contributing to the positive image of Nepal. I do not think we should look at the negative side only- though it is true that she happens to be a relative of Girija.
A lot of people have contributed so much- they are all worthy of special awards. The only problem is finding the resources to award so many people in a poor country like ours.
The other thing puzzling me is: when everybody is contributing so much for the country, how can we be still so poor? Can I blame it all on a single scapegoat (say Girija for e.g.)?Would all the wise people of Sajha enlighten me?
Bhunte Posted on 12-Oct-03 01:53 PM

Peda said: "..... she [Manisha] has helped in contributing to the positive image of Nepal. ...."

I believe YES, and thats what we need now. If I introduce myself to a foreigner, the first thing that strike in their mind now is royal massacre and maoist problem. WE need to put a lot of effort rebuild our image--Sundar Santa Nepal; Mandirai mandir ko desh Nepal; and what not....
putali7 Posted on 12-Oct-03 02:49 PM

Hey Madeshi, How about Manisha Koirala? She's going to be candidate on election from BHARATIYA JANATA PARTY?
madhesi Posted on 12-Oct-03 03:31 PM

Putali7: Yes, Manisha is also not a Nepalese citizen. She has Indian citizenship. So what is ypur question?
ashu Posted on 12-Oct-03 04:56 PM

Since there was no citation (or a formal recognition letter) of any kind, there is really
no precise rationale/explanation for why Manisha and others were honored in the first place.

One can only speculate, but that's about it.

The program-sheet had listed Udit as a panelist in a discussion forum about "Nepali Culture" yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, but he did not show up. Guess he could not
be in Kathmandu at all.

Looks like this NRN Jamboree is going to be an annual thing in Kathmandu. If that's the case, Udit might be honored in future.

Bilbo Baggins Posted on 13-Oct-03 09:03 AM

I think Udit Naryan is a great singer. Manisha got recognized during the NRN convention in Kathmandu. That's great too. We Nepalis have this attitudes that if we don't agree with the choices other people make then we have to make deregatory name calling of the receipents. That's why we, NEPAL, is where we are now. We cannot accept (daad le ghatti baklo huncha) the success of other people.

Get over it guys and support and congratulate the receipents. May be Udid will receive a recognition next year, if he decided to showup!!!

As a side note, me ... Mr. Bilbo Baggins should have been recognized ... I don't know for what but I should've been nonetheless... !! :)

confused Posted on 13-Oct-03 09:10 AM

UDIT SIMPLY does not deserve to get honored by Nepali societies...He has said on his several interviews that he was not born in Nepal but in INdia and is proud to be an indian...Why is such a person required to be honored by us nepali who is not proud to be what he is???
Bhunte Posted on 22-Oct-03 02:24 AM

Who is she?

Bilbo Baggins Posted on 22-Oct-03 07:57 AM

Bhunte ji,

If you don't know who she is why are you posting that picture here!!
L-a-x Posted on 22-Oct-03 11:04 AM

As far as I know and have read in many papers, Udit Narayan has said time and again that he is a Nepali after some controversy after the QSQT movie and the award.

I think he should have been awared the certificate though it doesnot make him any better. He has been helping a lot in the music industry.

No matter what you people think I always think him as a true Nepali with a feeling of Nepalipan in him ...But Everyone is entitled to what he/she thinks of someone else...
ssNY Posted on 22-Oct-03 01:23 PM

Let's not award everyone in just one year. Manisha this year - congratulations to her - Udit Narayan next year and you and me and so on and so forth in the coming years.

Can't and shouldn't recognize all in just one year, should you? Let's this be an annual event as Ashu thinks it might be and, hey, who knows?

Being from the US myself, it was kind of embarresing not seeing anyone (in Bhunte's list) from here that were recognised. May be, like I said earlier, in the coming years???
