It ought to be mandatory for every politician to be jailed for 2 years in hanuman dhoka without any facilities, no special treatment whatsoever for their every year in office. Why you may ask. Well...probably that is lightest punishment for all the ghhus they have taken, naata-bad, kripabad and abuse of power within or out of the jurisdiction of their posts. Just a thought......

Oz guy, that's ridiculous. Sentences should be based upon the nature and magnitude of the crime and transgression committed, and not on the basis of "being" a politician. As ridiculous, in fact, as an answer given by a former Nepali ambassador to the US (and a minister during the 1990 interim government) to the question "what does it take to be a successful politician in Nepal?" at a talk program at Harvard around 1993: "you need to have gone to jail [during the Panchayat era]"

Arnico, that was just a sarcasm....politicians have become so corrupt and selfish that even if you put mandatory sentencing it won't be unfair to them ... ofcourse they should be prosecuted against the light of evidence and crimes they have committed.. bottom line: politicians have no limit of common decency, obligation and responsibility towards the coommunity they represent. they have become just something of a joke, burden to society...politics have become more of a passion to riches and good life....
