WOW !!!these guys are great..made me fall in love with them all over again.hehhehehe .I must appreciate their strong stage presence even though they were so tired and the sound system was not in their favour. Each of the band members were really friendly and had time for all of us fans .Thanks Adrian,Firoz,Nirakar,Manose,Sanjay and Manoj....You guys were superb!!! sadly though ,as always, there was a tiff among the audience after the show but besides that everything was kool and the food too was awesome. Thanks for making this TIHAR of ours a memorable one.

Okay, If this is what you call a great show, then I beg to differ. I, however, don't blame 1974 AD for the whole thing. For the price of the ticket, most of my friends felt cheated as there were countless technical interrupions along the way. The beginning was a sign for the technical failures to come. The gentleman, who sang the first song, appeared to be lip-singing when he just shut his mouth closed and the background music along with the recorded vocal kept going. That was a little embarassing for the poor soul as he was the same person who recorded the song (unlike Milli Vanilli). And then sometimes there were song missing from dance numbers and dancers getting frustrated. It was followed by about 15-20 minutes of technical interruption when everybody started booing. When the band finally showed up, people felt a little relief. The band tried their best and it was working, except the sound control part. You could hardly understand a word of a song if you had never heard it before. I came to know from a friend that the music system was purchased just a week before and the technicians weren't totally familiar with it. There was a small 'trouble' in the rest room but it was quickly subdued. What follows is the better part of the gig:

1974 NY gig (praiseworthy points) * The english band, with a Nepali guitarist, were real good. Few small drops from Alternates and dominantly hard rock band rocked the house. * Mamata Dipbim was well liked by everybody * The band itself. Despite the difficulties, there was never a small flaw in the rhythm. Each and every member performed well. Manose Singh, the bamboo flutist, stole the highlights. With a great showmanship, he kept the attention focused to the stage. * 'Mingle' number (orginally by LIVE) by the Nepali band 'Strings' Notable thumbdowns: + food (not enough sel-roti), + technicality-location (parking, dang!!!), + Sudhansu's forced number (he can sing well but he over stretches sometimes) + price

But looking at Boston's gig, it looks like NY had a better in-house environment. Were the bostonians even enjoying? Not a sarcasm, just a question.

Yo birader peopal! One thing for sure. Them 1974AD band have no luck in them NY. Since last year them have not have smooth concert here in NY. Them should get bettar organizers like in them Bostan, DC, California and Minnesota. maybe them should contact those peopal. Here in NY have them have manyest Nepali crowd and them Crowd always come unlike those other places. But them organizers always seem to lack in them main things. In a concert Sound is them most importance thing.Lots of peopal who wents there to lisen to them beautiful sings only heard them durum and beat. Very painful for them peopal who wanted to hear them sings.

Yeah DWI...i agree to what you say as the show had a bad start..every item had some technical problem and that sucked ...made us feel like walking out .But at least the 'Band' ,despite all the tech probs and their weariness, managed to keep up the performance. The thumbs up and thumbs down are definitely what i also agree upon. CHEERS :)

I agree with DWI....ppl who were involved in organizing the show didin't do a good job....esp the sound system...it SUCKED.....Did they even know what they were doing....they kept runnin into same problem the whole night..(IF THE SOUND GUYS R READING THIS THEN DO A BETTER JOB NEXT TIME OR DON'T DO IT ALL ...IF U TAKE THE RESPOSIBILITY OF DOING SOMETHING THEN DO IT LIKE A PRO....U GUYS SUCKED) Was DJ P & C responsible for the sound system..if so then u guys sucked ...u should be ashamed to call yourself DJ when u don't even know the basics of sound....u guys didn't even know when to turn on the mics and monitors..I could have done better job....u guys ruined most of the ppl's mood...I tell u once again...u guys sucked!!! As for 1974 AD they were GREAT.. regardless of the prob that we were having with the sound ppl...they did thier best to keep us entertained.....U GUYS WERE GREAT!!!! esp the guy playing the flute....he was so energetic...cheers to u guys.....

No doubt, Phoenix and NewYorker, the band managed to stick it together despite all the problems. Harkay, lots of tickets went unsold; nonetheless, it was an housefull affair. Better stage than 'Kasturi' but acoustically sound? I dunno, didn't look like it.

Great pictures Phoneix. Thanks. Totally agree with you all here, 1974 AD are great. Great bunch of guys. Could we make third time's the charm - sometime in the future? Couldn't someone present them in a theater for the show alone minus all the drinks, food and dances etc. Just curious.

I happened to get some inside infos, hence I thought Ill pass it on to you curios seekers. No, No, I wasnt involved with organizing at all, in case you asked. DWI Posted on 10-26-03 10:07 AM The gentleman, who sang the first song, appeared to be lip-singing when he just shut his mouth closed and the background music along with the recorded vocal kept going. That was a little embarassing for the poor soul as he was the same person who recorded the song (unlike Milli Vanilli). His names Gham Gurung I came to know from a friend that the music system was purchased just a week before and the technicians weren't totally familiar with it. They had hired two sound people but didnt work right as all the mikes got switched every time a band came up. There was a small 'trouble' in the rest room but it was quickly subdued. What was the problem? DWI Posted on 10-26-03 10:13 AM 1974 NY gig (praiseworthy points) * The english band, with a Nepali guitarist, were real good. Few small drops from Alternates and dominantly hard rock band rocked the house. Name of the band is Ayurveda from Ithaca. They had two Nepalis in the band. * 'Mingle' number (orginally by LIVE) by the Nepali band 'Strings' Sound system was so bad thats what you thought they were singing but they were not singing Mingle. Dunno what it was. + price When the hall rental exceeds $8,000, dont you think it was almost fair? harkay Posted on 10-27-03 5:22 AM How many people showed up in NY? They tell me close to 800 including all the freebies which are their guests and artists.

Thanks ssNY for the clarifications I didn't know there were two Nepalese, just noticed one. I got confused with my two fav. bands, Collective Soul and LIVE. The song was actually 'GEL' by Collective Soul and I actually thought the title of the song was 'Mingle' (Lets Mingle...Lets Gel). Do we really care where the concert was? We would rather pay 15 bucks and go see the gig in Queens(not in Kasturi though) or Long Island. 35-40 bucks for 8000 dollar hall is justifiable, but we didn't ask the location to be in mid-manhattan, where parking was another problem. 800 people? Wow, that is a little more than what I thought.

It is always too much, I guess, when we are charged $35 or $40 for a gig/party. I agree with you when you say we (audience) didn't ask it be there. That's when the organizers role comes in - when they decide where to hold it and how etc. etc. etc. Following are my observations and Sajhaland could be a good place to not only discuss but suggest future organizers where to hold such events. 630 Second Ave hall = Too expensive? No parking etc. But, 1. large 2. clean 3. good stage 4. very big/good kitchen (if you want fresh food), 5. dressing room for artists 6. spacious bathrooms. Kasturi Club = Inexpensive. Good for only about 300 people? Small stage Dhaka Club = Same size as Kasturi. With the dinner - comes to about $20 per person. Gets expensive to organizers. Can't think of any other place if you want to have a gig followed by a dance party with food. How about a good old concert going only. 1. Hindu Temple in Flushing - seats 690 people. 2. Eagle Theater in Jackson Heights - seats 550 (aprox). Above two would certainly bring the price down but not to the level DWI suggests ($15 in NY?). Any thoughts???
