This looks like a list for experienced ones..how about for fresh starters?

How much would a ME in Civil get???

any idea?

How about the same qualification in Nepal?

Prajesh Posted on 29-Oct-03 11:29 AM

Daang!!

CPAs not in the list! Time to change my profession!!
bideshi Posted on 29-Oct-03 12:27 PM

L-a-x,
I don't know about others, but I know one guy who is civil engineer, has few years experience in US and now he makes 6 figure salary. For starters,it's just 47-52 k in civil but once you have some experience, about 5 years, then u can make a lot of money. Moreover if u r in designing and construction, then u'll earn a lot.
south Posted on 29-Oct-03 01:49 PM

wow sounds great. can u give me information about that guy ( civil engineer), i think i should contact him for jobs.
bhole_babaji Posted on 29-Oct-03 04:21 PM

IT sucks big time these days. without green card don't even think about getting a job in IT. Civil is better. I know a guy who got a job in Civil engg in Houston.

SimpleGal Posted on 29-Oct-03 05:28 PM

It sounds like civil engg's get a good salary with a good job. My own kaka just came to the US after getting the DV lottery last year. He has 15 yrs experience as a civil engg in Nepal but is having a tough time finding a good job here, one that's fitting his experience. Anyone here who might be able to help out in terms of providing resources he can refer to? Would really appreciate it. Pls. send me an email.
Arnico Posted on 29-Oct-03 10:33 PM

I know for sure that airline copilots in the US often don't even make half of what is quoted above.
bideshi Posted on 30-Oct-03 05:53 AM

I think it makes easier to get jobs in civil engineering field if u have college degree from here and if u have EIT and PE.Once u have EIT and PE including few years of experiences ,u'll get high profile jobs .
RBaral Posted on 30-Oct-03 06:13 AM

L-A-X,
I have been constistently told, by Civil Engineering employers and engineers themselves, that getting a job for a civil engieer is a piece of cake. But, Civil Engineers are not the ones who make decent money. Compared to Electrical and Chemical Engineers, they are on the low ends.

An ME Civil Engineer will be making 50K, depending on experience. If you are a structural engieer, you might be able to get one even without being an EIT or a PE.

Please let me know if you need more info.

Rbaral,
EIT and PE helps one to get a good job and more salary. That I know for sure.
I know some who have jobs without EIT and PE, but they can never rise, reach good positions that require PE and EIT.
So,what I suggest is go for EIT and PE and in the mean time look for jobs so that U'll have experiences too.
south Posted on 30-Oct-03 07:55 AM

hello rbaral and bideshi, it is good news for me. well FE is ok but how can i get PE without experience? i guess we can nt take PE exam without certain years of experience. i agree with rbaral in case of structural engineers, but its tough to get job in structural engineering field i guess as compared to other field in civil, but if you get it they are paid better. and i also agree that civil engineers are not so highly paid but everyone says its easy to get in civil. i am also graduting soon with masters degree in civil so can u guys give me some idea about job or if you guys know someone in this field and working here in usa. thanks.
MapleTree Posted on 30-Oct-03 08:56 AM

RBaral:

I have a contact who is very interested on getting job as a Structural Engineer or Bridge Engineer. He has over 15 years of experience in Nepal. Can I forward his resume to you?

Thanks,

I was watching a show on some TV channel few weeks ago -- a show on butler. I learned that, firstly, it is very hard to get into butler school. They select something like one out for twenty four candidates. Secondly, you also have to be physically fit to put few people down on the ground using your martial arts skill and you must be able to use guns. eh. of course, you have to be responsible to become a butler.

Salary in US: $30,000 to more than $120,000

Now that's something. I should try to be a butler. After all it is better than dishwashing. How much does a dishwasher earn in better places -- like 5 star hotels and places like that??? eh.. just curious! eh... i really need a change of profession. ;)
Lekhiika Posted on 30-Oct-03 09:08 PM

Kalanki, on top of that if you're as lucky as Paul Burrell to have had a boss like Princess Di then the nepali ukhaan "bhagyamaani ko bhutai kamaro" would be so perfect wouldn't it? :)

What do you think of Pharmaceutical Field? I know from payroll experience that pharmacists also make 35-45k for starting salary which isn't bad at all. We shouldn't just look at the figures here...just imagine the loads and loads of burden that these very people especially the ones in the top ten carry on their heads! It's a heck of a lot of job and they so much deserve they high pay.

RBaral Posted on 31-Oct-03 06:39 AM

A high paying job was not on my priority list in my early twenties. A job that would challenge me, and would give a lot of self respect and satisfaction was my dream. At mid twenties, while still a newly wed, a good paying job repeatedly haunted my mind. As I hit early thirties, my mind started becoming more stable and again wished for a job that would be secure, stable, less stressful, and that would offer more of a satisfaction. Money once again became secondary!

I would appreciate Sajhaites envigorating discussion/inputs in this matter.
MCR Posted on 31-Oct-03 08:34 AM

From my experience, best thing to do is find a career that you like to do, don't look for the money. Sometime money doesn't make you happy....

However, if you do want a high paying job, pharmaceuticals and biotech are pretty good areas to enter.

I noticed that at my company Many of the mangers/directors earn six figures with bonus laden incentives and stock options.

VP level people were making 200K or higher with Stock options/grants that have made them millionaires...if they are able to survive long enough to be vested

PHD Scientist were 85 K >, depending on experience
MS/BA Scientist 50K-85K depending on experience

Patent Lawyers 140K for 2 yrs of experienc

IT -DBA- 95 K>
Senior Network Enginners 85K>
Senior Regulatory / Compliance - 75K >
Senior Clinical People 75K >

Pay also depends on your experience, background for instance a MD/PHD Scientist would make more than PHD Scientist..etc..

So don't worry what you study, study hard and study what you enjoy and success will definately follow if you do what you want to do not what money drives you to do.....
