..below is a strange art along with the reason why it is so strange....it is very rare to see such genious arts.
___________________________________________________________________
In Edouard Manet's famous painting "A Bar at the Folies-Bergere," subtle mirror unnaturalness helps lend allure to the scene.

Part of the appeal lies in the contrast between the audience ready for entertainment seen in the mirror behind the bartender and she looking straight ahead, eyes betraying fatigue, say David Halliday et al. in "Fundamentals of Physics Extended: 5th Edition."

But as she looks toward "you" the viewer, there is something wrong: her back-of-the- head reflection is offset toward a side view even though the mirror is directly behind her (in reality her image should be eclipsed by her body). This places the reflection of the tophatted, mustachioed gentleman talking with her looking also out toward you.

But if he's right in front of her as seen in the glass, and you're looking directly at her, then HE MUST BE YOU! "You are looking into Manet's work and seeing your reflection off to your right. The effect is eerie because it is not what we expect from a painting or a mirror."

Dude,
I didn't get it.
Agreed that the art defies laws of optics, but it ain't a real photo. It is just an art and any thing can go on art. What's the big deal?
Swoosh, just went over my head.

There is probably two mirrors. So, there are multiple images of the same person.

Just a thought, hai.

Biswo
Optics ko class padhaunda bunk garya ho?
The above image, in reality, isn't possible even with multiple mirrors. First the angle of observation (incidence) is tweaked, then how do you justify disapperance of the hat-man in the real image?
mickthesick Posted on 02-Nov-03 11:46 AM

..okay forgive me if you guys think my opinions are not clear enough or sufficient enough to explain the picture.

The only reason why this picture is strange ( i would like to call it a masterpiece instead of strange) is because arts do not provide the observer with a chance to be a part of the art. But this art is special because this art makes the observer know that the man in the picture is the reflection of the observer.

This makes the observer happy or appreciate the art even more.

kiddo,

Yea. I was always kind of slacker in optics:-)

Should apologize for that lousy guess.
VincentBodega Posted on 02-Nov-03 03:45 PM

I dont even think theres a mirror. Thats because if you look at the bottles to the right of the girl and compare the reflection they are not the same. I think they should have been identical if there was a mirror there. So it could also be that its another lady talking to another customer.

Just a try !!!
blackie Posted on 04-Nov-03 11:05 AM

I totally agree with Vincent. By the way, Mick, which century did Manet belong to?
mickthesick Posted on 05-Nov-03 10:23 AM

..Edouard Manet was french.

(born. Jan. 23, 1832, Paris, France--dead. April 30, 1883, Paris)

the most popular ( actually "notorious" ) painting of Manet was "Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe" meaning "Luncheon on the Grass".

His "Luncheon on the Grass" is the painting below::
