Well guys!! school abuse was not definetly a good thing, but just think like that was then.. as far as my in my opinion, teacher never wants their student to go wrong way. That was the only way they knew to let know student how to behave back then, may be still... there are teachers that are abusing student in NEPAL but they don't have any other knowledge or idea on what to do to make a good student.
confused Posted on 02-Nov-03 08:10 AM

pratikchya if you ever have been to school out here in states u will notice that students out here are more out of diciplane then in nepal.and still teachers dont whip their children with long bamboo stick..why??...i think such abuses in nepal is just wrong..i have heard some school like rato bangla have stopped such physical abuse..and sud be stopped on many school's in nepal

pratikchya Posted on 02-Nov-03 03:44 PM

Oh yah! I have been to school in States and saw teacher does not do like in Nepal. It's just different laws here in states. Too much of freedom, why would a child calls police just because of parents raising hand... why teenager getting pregnent before getting married and gets hard life... It's because of not having good respect for society and elders... There is nothing called Saram, or laaz in states.. We all know how nepal is, full of cultural values. we can never compair US to NEPAL for either good or bad ways.

Interesting topic.
This is one of the things I have seen and been through. I know that in alot of Boarding Schools in Nepal, physical punishment is so much prevalent. There are some schools in Kathmandu where most childern whose parents live and/work abroad go to school. These children are in the care of local gurdians and local gurdians rarely go to visit them. Apart from that, there is also a strict visitation policy that does not allow guradians to visit these children at their will. So some of these kidsget 'caned' for nothing. Situation is really pathetic. I have seen a five year old boy who had 5 bruses on his calf. A nine year old twin girl had seven visible bruses on her legs and god knows how many on her back. Her twin sister was sitting next to her and crying for her. Her grand parents lived just next door to the school thinking that their grand daughters were having fun at school. 15 years old girl was beat up by her principal because she was spending too much time looking at the mirror!!
This is a true incident I have seen. I talked to the Principal why she was doing this. She said "Sir tapailai tha ha chhaina ie keta keti kasta chhan bhanera. Bau ama le nasake ra yaha pathaye ko. Bela bela ma yeso nagare ta taukai ma tek chhan ni".
These kids did not tell their parents or gurdians about it because they thought it was their fault. They were also scared that Principal would findout that they told their parents about it.
Now I feel guilty that I saw this misery but I could not do anything. I was a newly hired teacher and was paid more than most of the other teachers. This was a job I got after I was jobless for almost a year in Kathmandu. Eventually I quit the job after some months. What should have I done in a situation like this?
Are there any organizations in Nepal who moniter child abuse in Boarding schools?
