I need a lifft back home cos i dont have any mode of transport and well it would be nice to meet some sajhaites too. Sajhaites of London, England - care to write a thing or two on the 1974 AD shows there?
himali_yatri Posted on 12-Nov-03 02:20 PM

I was late about an hour for the concert, but it was great. Most of the time, the concert in London is very boring, seems everyone is sleeping, no excitement but this time it was different, it was great, just like as it should in concert. I could see lots of kids dancing. The best part is it is the first time any concert being held in Woolwich Town Hall without Nepalese fight. In last concert I was there, Three consecutive fights in one night in hall. but this time it was different, everyone seems to be enjoying there. .Ticket was quite expensive, 20 pounds. Rest was fine. I liked most of the the songs.I could have gone to there Monday night concert as well but I had supervision for undergraduate students the next day so could not make it. I am hoping to see them again.
THose of you who missed it, i have to say you missed great concernt in London. To be honest I think I enjoyed more than DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL in Donningtone where Iron Maiden and Metallica played in summer.
ssNY Posted on 12-Nov-03 04:55 PM

Himali Yatri, thanks!

Woolwich Town Hall - how many seats are there? Is it like a theater or a space where you can also have a party?

How many people showed up, you think?

Do you think the badmass.com, the organizers, did a good job?

GREAT concert in Woolwich Arsenal by 1974AD dun u think so guys? they only lacked a bit of showmanship dun u think so? i mean the band members seemed quite shy and slow in opening up. But it was a great concert nevertheless. loads of dancing, singing, great coordination amongst the band members. what more do u expect, right?

One thing that kinda irked me was someone shouting 'Neend ra lagyo" during the start of the concert. that was kinda rude dun u think so? I mean, yeah, the guys did start slowly, but that inconsiderate person should have just kept his itchy mouth shut man? Thses guys were here to perform and they did it very well in the end. Try going on stage and singing in front of an audience. U think it's easy? Stupid bugger.. dun mind me, just thought that i'd let my feelings be known.

By the way, does anyone know of any websites where i can find nepalese events happening around England? please lemme know..Thanks...
jhapali Posted on 16-Nov-03 11:10 AM

EdHunter, that is how they always start the concert. they start slow. they probably started off with "samji baschu". after 3 or 4 songs, they shift gear. that is their style. they have to make everyone happy. so they do both slow and fast numbers.

“The show will begin in five moments

The mighty voice announced

All those unseated will await the next show.

Is everybody in?
Is everybody in?
Is everybody in?
The ceremony is about to begin.

WAKE UP!

You can't remember where it was had this dream stopped? ” - JM

Just waking up from the "Nepalese Prayer" that was 1974 AD. Much anticipated and happening Band finally graced the shores of the Island that gave world the Beatles and Led Zepplin.

So Good, So Short. Just three concerts and left us thirsting for more. The first concert held at Reading Univ Student Union had a low audience turn out. As the band played on and songs progressed to punchy numbers, people filled the dance floor. The sound quality was exquisite and remained so for the rest two concerts held at Woolwich and Ealing. The grand finale at Ealing was Success with capital “S”. The band played to full seating capacity of 500. The hall literally trembled when the crowd went wild to the tune of “YO MAAN TA NEPALI HO!!”. The London Bridge did fall and Little Mary had Lamb Sekuwa. Definitely 10 in the Richter scale.

Surprise, Surprise!! Not a single incident of drunken brawl or heated arguments. Secret? 1. Couple of mean looking, bicep bulging, scowling and towering Hapsi’s for minders.
2. Body checkevery male member of the audience
3. sniffing coke bottle for traces of alcohol.
4. Clear message, "No shenanigans", "Do you find yourself lucky punk? Do ya?"
5. I’d like to think it was 1974 AD’s music and captivating performance that gave a natural high.

Phiroz Daju's soothing and almost angelic voice perfectly compliments his cool and calm persona. He could have done without Liam Gallagher’s tinted glasses though. Hey!! That’s Rock image right? Does that go with his Gibson Les Paul? Do peas go with carrots? Speaking of which, he is a vegetarian who absolutely loathes the herb of Asia "Coriander". He finds the smell of coriander, to quote “pani ma bhijeko kukru ko chauro".

Adrian's voice, bordering towards "Axel Rose" gives a clout and rock credential to the band. However, I do admit it made me cringe when I first heard "Every time look at her I see her smiling face..... ". Somehow, English lyrics in Nepali songs taste like momo with unhealthy mix of Parsley, Rosmary and Simon & Art Garfunkle. Over the years, his blend of Angreji in Nepali songs has matured like nine year old single malt should. Smoke and Booze, perfect combo for hitting that C maj note.

Monoj KC affectionately known as Kale was born with Fender Strat in his hand. Sorry to say his talent was no match for hard nose officials at Brit Embassy Visa section. Poor chap had a hard time acquiring visa for UK just because his surname happened to be KC. Apparently KC's are black listed in England, thanks to Bhuwan KC. On stage, his guitar licks is mesmerising. I tried my best to follow his finger moves, esp for Parelima. I was hypnotised like Mowgli under the hypnotic eye of Kaa the Python. Psychedelic flashing black and white rings and all. Off stage, he is very handy with a broom. Cleaning the floor long after the gob smacked had left the auditorium.

Manos Singh aka Bhaire .Which one is the dream boat? I couldn’t quite figure out, KC or Singh. I will leave that for the ladies. Manose's soulful playing, felt as clean as performing ablution in the holiest of the holy river. He had a stage presence double with confidence of a true performer. We are not worthy!! (Wayne’s World style)

Nirakar dai, ever so cheerful whose Bass hit notes even lower then Adam Clayton's. Mutu Dhuk Dhuk.. Dhuk... Dhuuk parne. Apparently he was caught in the loo flexing is muscles in walk like an Egyptian style and muttering "Bro, ma ta jhyap chu!!".

Sanjay's Madal gave that zingy Dhintang, which automatically made feet shuffle, kammar machhing and hands wave in classic Nepali dance move.

IT WAS NOT JUST A ROCK CONCERT. IT WAS AN EXPERIENCE.

Thank you 1974 AD.

Already sore about having missed the shows, reading your review made me curse my luck more.
Good review!
ssny Posted on 17-Nov-03 08:21 AM

Excellent review, ou812. Thank you.

Your review made me think hard and make some changes within me to watch bands differently next time around, especially 1974AD - when I get a chance again. We weren't so lucky in NY with the sound but glad to hear that it was great in London.

Along with the excellent music they play, I found the band members pretty down to earth and very obliging to their fans. That only adds to their popularity in the world of "stuck up" celebrities.
