November 3, 2003.
Minister of Health and Mental Resources Dr. Allarey Prasad Guragai has inaugurated a state of the art Bhunte Memorial Mental Hospital today at Chattisputali. "We have many normal people living in the sajha land". He added, "There people have come together to raise money for this hospital in order to preserve the mental state of some of the other inhabitants of sajha land who are mentally challanged." The Sajha Land has been awakened after a recent case of mental plague that hit it's citizen Bhunte, on the necessity of such mental rehabilation centers.
Patriotic citizens are encouraged to submit the names of people who could benefit from this institution.

The first patient will be none other than Saroj! :P He has been diagnosed with severe case of multiple personality syndrome. The most apparent symptom is conflict of decision making -- whether to log in on sajha as Saroj or Biblo.... ehhe!!

Hi I haven't seen GP for a while can someone invite him here please? He is being missed. Also I would like to invite Paramendra for some part time work. I would suggest khimu for some regular check ups. Nattu can apply for lifetime membership. Prem Charo has already applied and I am pleased to inform that he's been accepted since he was over qualified.

Hello everyone,
I strongly believe that it's utterly callous on our part to steal a few laughs at the expense of a serious human condition -- mental illness. You have to have been there to see how miserable life is for the patients, many of whom come from broken homes and tortured past -- lives that we thought were merely figments of our imagination, which for them is a harsh and nightmarish reality. You come away thankful that God has smiled kindly on you. Let's respect humanity in all its forms. If we cannot understand their grief, let's not poke fun at them either.

I don't think we should be making fun of Bhunte dai in any sense. Looks like the Rs600 he spent to buy beer for IF broda was a tortured past for him which for him is a harsh and nightmarish reality...We shouldn't be laughing at bhunte dai's expense..
Dr. Bhunte is a great guy and he's an asset to sajha hospital... after all look at his mind.. he remembers how much he spent on beer, what kinda purchase it was and stuff even though it was year/s ago(?) ..i'm sure he even remembers the note number too. isn't that amzing.. dyamnn and look at me, i can't even remember what i had for lunch yesterday....
Dr. Bhunte is a great guy you guys.. give him a break...

Sankaa, if being satirical floats your boat, then pls. do indulge yourself by all means. But this is a sensitive topic that demands sensitivity and thoughtfulness from us. I wasn't implicating Bhunte dai here at all. Let's not use medical labels and contexts without being informed about their ramifications in the lives of patients who are fundamentally Human Beings like you and me and deserve our sincerest respect!!! As the old adage goes, A word to the wise is sufficient, and I'm aware that there are many of them here on sajha who will understand.

I absolutely agree with Simpu dizzu, Its such a sensitive topic!
But on the other hand, Saroj, the unsung hero of sajha ;) :) i am sure understood its sensitiveness and he meant it only as a joke. Now can please someone tell me if any JOKES CAN BE TOLD WITHOUT an expense of SOMEONE, SOMEBODY?? To not to make it sensitive, they are labelled as jokes i guess ;) and sometimes u don't have to blurt out as a joke, its subtly understood :)..jus look at me.....i am walking talking joker..can anyone believe that? :)

You gotta be able to laugh at the saddest thing in life. I agree that Mental illness is sad and should be treated with care at the REAL hospital. The comments made here are simply made in jest and we need to learn to laugh at the bad things in life.
Bhunte ji might be totally mentally healthy in REAL life but in the virtual world of world wide web he displays signs of various mental disorders. Anger is one! Intolerance is another ... ad so on!

This evening at approximately 21:00 hours Western Standard Time, Bhunte got initiated into Sajha Mental Hospital Hall of Fame for Lifetime achievement Award. This is a highest honor anyone could have. Even directors from other Mental Hospitals such as Bilbo Baggins were present on this award ceremony.
Bhunte was dressed up for the occassion in torn rags from Aramani Exchange and empty Tin cans from Budweiser Incorporated. Beating his chest like Tarzan, he proclaimed, "Noone can hope to take away this title as long as I am here." He further went on to say, "Anybody who's foolish enough to try to argue with me will get to know the height of foolishness when they meet me."
Bhunte's personal psychologist SimpleGal was not available for comments. She was sighted at a movie theater showing "Analyze this" starring Sankaa, Kalankisthan and a guest appearance by OysChill.
The sajha extended family celebrated at a local bhatti, where most of the members admitted they were "shocked" that Bhunte admited to having extraordinary mental illness when his psychologist SimpleGal put it into words. The extended family agrees that most of the citizens of sajha have had a complicated past but have coped with it well without troubling other counterparts, unlike in Bhunte's case. I commend the understanding, sensitivity and respect you showed to a delicate human matter and your audacity to speak up even when your audience appeared too preoccupied to listen to and understand you. I am all for humor, even a black humor is fine for me. However, I am disappointed that Sankaa, apparently in his rather too strong urge for venting out his things, failed to appreciate what deserves to be appreciated. Appreciation is a graceful thing to do. Will it be relevant if I remind you how the British army had erected a column to praise the bravery of their enemy, the Gorkhali, in Nalapani ? Simpu isn't your enemy, but still you could have shown some appreciation for such a human thing she said.

GUYS, I know you were just having fun... but please don't do it in ways that hurt people... and the ways you have been talking DOES hurt people. Not the people who you are making "fun" of by labelling them as mentally ill, BUT people who have real mental illnesses, and their family members who struggle hard to get through each day. With several cases of mental illness in the extended family, trust me, I DO know what I am talking about when I talk about the hurt felt when people make fun of it.
Making fun of people with mental illness is no different than making fun of people with cancer (or any other illness). Would you go around being rude to people who lost their hair due to chemotherapy? Would you make fun of the way someone walks wearing a cast on their legs? Would you make fun of the way someone talks after having had vocal cord surgery? Would you make fun of someone whose skin is discolored by skin cancer? Would you like to be made fun of if you were in any one of the above situation? Come on, please be more sensitive.
Also, be aware than mental illnesses are a lot more common in society than you might think... so prevalent in fact that it is very likely that at least one of the people who have posted in this thread so far will have to seek treatment within the next ten years. It could be any one of you! And you should have the right to get the treatment you deserve without being made fun of.
As for hounding people for using big words... use a dictionary. Learn the new word. Or ignore it. I for one always have to reach for a dictionary when I read one of Nepe's gazaals, and even then need to scratch my head a few times before it makes sense. ...

I think whatever SimpleGal wrote on this matter is totally baseless and out of context.
She did put out few good lines on values and morality, but I dont think anyone was making fun of a mentally handicapped person here.
The saddest thing is that people commend her act. Well may be I didnt see something. Tell me where people started making fun of a mentally retarted? Dont we say "I think I am going crazy"? Is that bad too now? Do I have to change what I say?

Thanks for your support. Means a lot to me! Illness in any form is very painful, not just for the person suffering from it, but also for his/her loved ones who suffer alongside! Jokes are fine and I enjoy listening to and laughing at them. But there are certain aspects of human life that need more respect. That's all I was trying to convey.
Also, I am with Sitara in requesting that everyone PLEASE leave Bhunte dai alone now. He has had enough! And so have we as readers. He is sensible and educated enough to realize his mistakes.

oh wowwww. looks like america has taught you guys a big big lesson in life about being sensitive and stuff.. totally, we should never make fun of handicapped or mentally ill people. I agree to that, but who is making fun of who? and who's the real mentally ill person in here? we're just trying to have fun ..
people have made jokes on me up there too.. i don't mind.. i rather aprpeciate that.. i joke around with my friends all the time, i call them " kasto pagal" they don't preach me about sensitiveness and stuff... I know how sad is it to be a mentally ill or being a cancer patient... and i'm sensitive on those areas...
however when there is " laagan going on , you do not do haagan" . there is right time for everything. You don't go preach ppl wha you learned on physicology 101 all the time.and just cuz you think your english is good you are not compelled to write a comment on everything with big big loaded words.It just looks funny.
You guys are just trying act like you've changed.. but never forget where you are from and how you used to be.. there is nothing wrong making fun out of craziness but making fun of real crazy people is bad. and bhunte dai is not real crazy...
The way you guys are telling to stop making fun of Bhunte is rediculous. Are you guys suggesting tha Bhunte is a paagal? Well I didnt even use the word mental illness. I used mentally handicapped and mentally retarded. And I think retardation does fall under being handicapped.
I dont think we have met, but from what I read of your writing you seem to be a psych person. So tell me one thing. How well can one really study know the Psyche of another Individual? Is it something you can learn at all or its just based on hit and trial? Again, this is out of context too.
This is in context though. Based on the same principle of yours is how laughing on mental hospital (again not mentally ill people) is a form of disrespect to all mentally ill whether they know it or not, my question is if a tree falls in a forest and no one heard it, do you still say that the tree fell or not. Hope this churns your psyche. :)

Hey Sitara dijju, these people are preaching against you because even you joked about mentally ill people. We are no match for their educational credentials they sound like doctors and psychologists, can you please come and give them a lecture on why laughter is the best medicine even for the mentally ill?
If I remember correctly there was a medical experiment done in the early 80's at Harvard Medical School whereby mentally ill patients were subjected to various doses of humor at different times of the day. The study found that Laughter was indeed the best medicine as the mental state of these people in the experiment improved by a huge margin.
So all these people who are trying to be self appointed leaders and preacher should .. ermmmmm I dunno what to tell them Sitara dijju, can you give them some good verbage that I lack?

When a doctor says he is happy to see more mental patient in the hospital, that puts the doctor's "psyche" itself in question. I would love to be treated by someone who does not have such a problem, if possible. Hehehe...what if the patient starts to treat the doctor? Are there any other doctors at your hospital? :)

First, I objected to Bhunte being targeted.
Second, I found it extremely funny to see two threads on "Sajha Mental Hospital" posted by two different handles, Saroj and Bilbo Baggins. I couldn't resist the crack about "the twin syndrome" and "Split personalities".
Having said that, and staying well within the realms of the given context; I have not seen any malice intended toward the mentally ill or disabled. To quote (not in his exact words) M.Scott Peck, a world reknowned psychotherapist (of the "The Road Less Travelled" fame)...
"We would all benefit from psychotherapy just because we live/survive in an imperfect world".
To get further technical and still further out of context:
We all have, to some degree, obsessions/crushes, addictions/crazy infatuations, compulsions, attention deficiencies, habits of lying (white lies, giving guffs), cheating, going insanely angry or morbidly depressed. The weather affects us, the moods trigger us, the minds incite us and dreams and nightmares frighten us. Were we all sound of mind, we would be able to differentiate between the real and the imagined. Unfortunately, we have the Bushes and the Saddams, our own home grown Maoists, who need to be admitted into Saroj's mental hospital more that Bhunte, M.P., Sankaa, Sitara, ... anyone else. What the hell is mental illness? Only those that have been tested by experiments or also those who run scotfree trying to justify wars, child pornography (as an art form), spouse-beating..... the list is long.

Hence, I maintain: The world is divided into two groups of mentally ill people; PSYCHOTIC and NEUROTIC. I hope Saroj's hospital has made both those departments large enough to house 7 billion people!
Do I feel crazy at times? Hell, yes!!!! Would that be a mental condition for me? Sure, a mental condition of being in a state of regression, depression, dejection. Ofcourse the world is against me then, or so I think... and then along comes another psychologist and labels my "mental condition" as PMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another word coined into the medical journal of Psychology to describe half of the population of the world!

sankaa ji, i usually don't transact with suspicious person. but something just popped up to my idea. i don't know if persistent suspecting guy is a psychological disorder. if there hasn't been any research in this issue, sankaa may want to volunteer for a psychological experimentation. any notable finding would be a significant contribution to the literature.

What makes someone right and what makes some others wrong? In a forum like this, I think, everyone has their own views and interpretations. Some find it funny. Some don't. Some find it necessary to control it, some don't. We are all different people. There is no need that we have to follow what Simple gal says. Nor do we have to find this whole thread funny just because some did. Let those who are enjoying have fun. If someone is offended, they will come out and ask for clarification. We have our own opinions about other people's behavior and it is OK to bring it out by offending others as less as possible. But since there is no threshold as to how much, it will still depend on the person who gets hurt. If you think someone is trying to control you or the thread (Besides San ofcourse!) then you have an easy solution... just don't let them.
And don't forget to have fun in the process!! I'm having fun just reading what goes on in Sajha!!!

MP, well I have to be happy to see more Mental Patients at the hospital, after all they are the ones who pay my bills! The hospital will get shut down if there are no patients and I will be laid off. So being a patient don't try to analyze a doctor's psyche and just be a good patient.

I don't think people should be demanding a full time service from San all the time. He is already doing a great favor by contributing his valuable time and skills. Quit bugging him and asking him questions like you're a lawer all the time, unless it is totally necessary; my suggestion.

Hi Bhunte, I don't have much time for a very thoughtful answer but here is my two cents on this subject.
Since people are representing themselves here when they decide to post publicly, it is natural for others to make judgements about their cyber persona through their postings, or question them according to their representation of themselves depending upon the content of their postings.
As public posters, they hold public position in sajha. As an publicly held positions they will have admirers, they will have some who will adore them, some who question them, some will make caricatures of them, and some will write humorous pieces about them. For example, in the past we have seen people writing poems about other posters, writing humor pieces, etc.
In my opinion it is a natural progression of things for something like this to happen. HOWEVER, as soon as these humorous pieces overstep the boundaries of sajha and begins to border upon the personal lives of people - which is outside of someone's sajha existence, THAT IS WHAT I FIND OFFENSIVE.
Even when a poster is continually harassed by certain individual for no apparent reason, it will begin to get OFFENSIVE after a certain time. If a poster notifies me that something is getting offensive, I always make it a point to try to make a sound judgement on the issue at hand.
On further note, I would appreciate if anyone having such issues contact me directly through email to sort out such issues than posting messages for me in Kurakani. This is a voluntary service that I am very happy to provide, but I cannot promise that I will be able to read every thread and answer back or try to solve issues. From now on I will try to solve issues on a personal basis and if any of the solutions are important enough to be posted, or if it gives rise to some valuable insights or policies like in this case, I will post it for the public. There is no reason for sajha official business - meaning policies etc to take the space of general discussions for which this site is here for in the first place.
