-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Koirala prods friendly nations to stop arms supply By LILA BARAL BIRTAMOD, Nov 5 - The Nepali Congress (NC) president Girija Prasad Koirala has issued a call to friendly nations to drop the idea of supplying arms and ammunition to Nepal in light of the nation being in the grip of regression and escalating towards militarisation. He was addressing party workers as a part of the nationwide campaign for restoration of the constitutional and political process. "Arms and ammunition can be abused when there is no responsible govt in place. They can be put to use to suppress popular aspirations," he said. He was also of the view that armory should be further strengthened only after the army is democratised and brought under a democratically-elected government. He also flayed the formation of the unified command comprising even the civil servants as indication of the country escalating towards increased militarisation. "Army and police were already under the unified command. The latest to join the bandwagon is bureaucracy, which explains that the nation is heading towards increased militarisation," Koirala, who on Wednesday initiated the countrywide campaign against regression, said here. Addressing party activists, the NC leader exhorted that bullet cannot be expected to bludgeon the people into silence for a long time. He urged both the king and PM Thapa "to keep this in mind." Saying that the king has ignored the names recommended to fill up the vacant constitutional position, Koirala further said that the monarch is up to a big mischief by embarking on militarisation on one hand and ensuring the collapse of constitutional bodies on the other. Koirala also issued a warning to PM Thapa saying that he should not present the issue of holding elections as something which may be too trifling.

The way Gijaa Koiraloo is going, don't be suprised if next week he makes a plea to the US/India to bomb and annihilate the Nepali military for finally trying to plan like a military to fight the Maoists. Koirla's argument will be: "Ah the military is a threat to the people/democracy/nation/Maoist comrades when I am not the Prime Minister. So dear friendly countries, in the fair name of democracy, I urge you to either destroy the Nepali military or help me become the prime minister. You must put pressure on Gyanendra Maharaj to so that I can regain Singha Durbar. Can't you see this government is trying to put me behind bars on trumped up charges? They already put my best soldiers Joshi and company in the cooler? If you don't intervene fast enough the CIAA is going to get me and my only daughter in the slammer too. Help! SOS!! Democracy in danger!!!"
