Here's a good CD for those who enjoy German electronic music.

On another note, how many of you get "Oh , you're from Napoli or Naples?" when you tell them you're from Nepal?

I get that sometimes. There was one idiot I met who thought Nepal is in Spain. Then some other idiot thought Nepal is near Hong Kong. Then there's another idiot who thought Nepal .is in Eastern Europe. And then there's another one who thought it's near Indonesia. People can be so stupid sometimes. I look completely South Asian, yet I am astounded by how people think I am from so many different locations that have nothing to do with me. There was also one who fool who thought Nepal was in India though, which ticked me off.

Even fellow South Asians are ignorant of Nepal's diversity. They think we all look alike. It ticks me off quite a bit.

hahaha here is a little funny joke..abt how idiot people are:.(.this is a true story belive it or not)

i was talking to "this very intelligent" person and he asked me where i was frm, i go " i am frm nepal"..and YES ..you all got it right..his next question was exactly "where is it at??"

Then same old stuff i repeat everyday to everybody..i go..
"umm heard of mt everest right?" he goes "YES" .then i said "iits located in nepalllll ..man " then just after when i finished saying "it was located in nepal"(hint: remember the quotations) he seemed to have a very clear expression in his face..now he wasnt confused at all..it seemed he knew what i was talking about and knew what was he goona spill out..he seemed very confident on words he was abt to spill out..he was relaxed ..then he pat me on my back and said "ooh man,, i went their to visit my aunt once" very suprised i go " where ..nepal" he goes calmly " ya man..colorado..it was beautiful"

hahaha this cracked me up for days..i use to laugh alone thinking..this..albert enienstein said once "only two things are infinite...one is the universe and other is human stupidity.."
porcelina Posted on 09-Nov-03 06:52 AM

yeah, it pisses me off when indians go 'nepal and india are the same', and oh, 'why bother calling yourselves a different country, theres not point!'

i just laugh at how stupid they are

yeah people often get confused when we say we'r from nepal... they have heard about Nepals, Italy but not Nepal and they just think that we're not pronouncin the word correctly or somethin and they go, Thas in Italy right?? Now that i got so tired of sayin all that ... everytime someone asks me where i am from, i just say asia... they go .. oh!

I met this Indian girl from Tamilnadu in a conference, she asked me where am i from, i said, Nepal. Then suddenly she said " I am also from INDIA".I said"so what?" "we are countrymate"I was about to say go to the HELL you F:::::::ing ugly kalli(haandi jasti) bitch. Of course I didn't say that.
Another incident, a chinese collegue asked me where I am from, I said "Nepal". He asked me where it is in, I said it is in near China. But still he could not figure out which country it was. I said, it is where the the tallest mountain in the world is in. He said "well the tallest mountain in the world is in China and it is called ZHUMOLAMAFENG". I just could not explain him so I just said, it is somewher ein ASIA. The next day he came to me and I said, "I found out where you are from. You are from NIBOER not Nepal".

I just said thanx dear for letting me to know where I am from.

Well this is a story all too familiar to me as well. However, the latest dilemma that I have been facing is when people dont believe that I cant speak or know undersand Hindi. Few weeks ago, I had a funny incident. I was visiting a friend at his place of business and this Indian dude was talking with him. Knowing the tension between Indians and Nepalis, my friend mischievously introduced me to this guy. For some reason, this desi dude started talking to me in Hindi and was shocked that I did not understand his language. Hethen asked me how I did not understand Hndi when all the Nepalis he knows, can speak Hindi. Oh boy....assumptions do not fare well with me. So I coolly looked him in the eyes and asked him if he knew Nepali. He then lowered his eyes and said no and the rest is history. Rarely do moments like this make me go YEAH.

Hey folks, at least the people you met were honest that they did not know about Nepal. What makes me mad is when people "pretend" to know when they have not clue or make superficial expressions. There is one group of people that asks you where you are from and you answer "Nepal" and they make superficial expressions such as "wow wonderful", "cool", "how nice" and all that though you are 99% sure that they don't have a clue about Nepal.

I remember one incident when I was in college. It was the summer after my freshman year and I used to work in the library circulation desk. One of the American girls, who also worked there asked me where I was from. As I said I was from Nepal, she asked me if Surani (a Sri Lankan girl working at the same place) was also from Nepal. I told her that she is from Sri Lanka, and she was like "oh that's neat."

A few days later, the American girl entered the library bathed in sweat. She asked me then "is it hot like that back at your home in India?" I felt like yelling at her with all the curse words I knew of. Yet trying to be as calm as possible, I told her that I am not from India. With a bit surprised face she asked me again "so where are you from?" I told her "Nepal". "Oh that's right" she said and she left.

A shocking incident had occured to me around the same time. It was during my Christmas holidays when I was working as a waiter in a local restaurant. I was waiting on a table of an elderly couple. The old lady asked me "Are you from New York? I saw so many people who looked just like you." Trying my best to conceal my shock, I replied "no maam I am from Nepal." She looked totally puzzled and her husband looked equally embarrassed. "It is a different country, honey" he explained.

"What part of India are you from?" I have been asked this question many times as if they already knew my nationality. "Naples, Italy?", got that many times too.
gaaunle Posted on 19-Nov-03 04:48 PM

Well! I have had several similar experiences as well. Usually after I am said and done explaining where the heck I am from, people seem to be very excited to have meet me. At least, I guess, everyone thinks Nepal is a mysterious Shangri-La. This is until there was no headline on palace massacre and Maoist bombs. These days, everyone asks, "there is something problem in your country?" or "Who killed the King?"

Anyway, few years back, I met a lady at a grocery store. She asked me where I was from. I said Nepal. She seemed visibly very excited.

And, then she goes, "You have Kilimanjaro right?"

I didn't know if I should spoil her excitement and make her feel stupid about her knowledge of geography. I didn't have choice.

I said Kilimanjaro is in Tanzanina, Africa!

She goes, "Oh!"

Actually, I was happy that she at least knew Nepal was associated with mountains. I have had people saying, “It’s near Hawaii, right?”
KaleKrishna Posted on 19-Nov-03 11:01 PM

Yeah the trouble to make the inquirer understand where exactly you are from gets even tough when they are used to say "Nebor" for Nepal and your tongue will simply not agree to twist to change the beutiful name.
After finaly making them understand where exactly I am from, it just sounds they know the country. Are you prince, why did you chose to come here, how many times have you climed Simalayas (that is how they say here).
Poor me
