Can anyone help me with this? Whenever I start my computer, I get this annoying message telling me to wait for 30 seconds so that my computer will start normally. The options I get are safe mode and all that. Every time I make sure that my computer is shut down good so that the message will not pop up again. But I just can't figure out what the problem is. I mean I used to get that kinda message before in my other computer, but when I shut down the computer properly, the message would not pop up again. This shit is making me crazy. Please guys help me out. If you need further configuration, this is a pentium 4 notebook with 2.66 mhz processor from Intel, I bought it from Dell. Do you think Dell has problems?? Frost.

Robert bro! I am sorry I might not be much of a help. But just a quick thought -- Have you tried "system restore"? Sometimes it fixes the problem. I am sure it's in there if you have XP. (start-> accessories -> system tools -> system restore) It's not harm to try it -- might fix the problem UNLESS you have sobig virus in your computer... then you might wanna remove sobig virus. Not really sure about it, sorry about that! But hey, you never know ;)

Mr. Frost This is a common problem that occurs when you install software that is not compatible with the Operating System, that includes any device drivers you loaded for peripherals such as printers, games etc, or after you make any hardware alteration. Your best bet is to try to remember what is it that you installed/modified right before the problem started, and undo that. If you CAN think of something you installed, then chose the safe mode option, uninstall the software and reboot to normal option and that should fix it. Or try removing any external peripherals that you recently attached. While you are on it, be sure to update your windows from MS website, especially the Windows XP service pack 1. That itself fixes many known problems while securing your box from other known vulnarability. If you are using Roxio Easy CD creator to burn CD's, there is a known issue with this particular software and Windows XP. Many Dell's were shipped with Roxio, remove it. If nothing works, call Dell with the express service code that is in the back of your notebook. Their support is relatively good. More likely, you'll be talking to someone in India. Later

RFji, I second with the above suggestions. If the above tips won't solve the problem, strike the F8 key spontaneously during boot up (start hitting right after you trun on the power, before the windows splash screen loads). That should take you to the Windows Advanced Options Menu. Select "last known good configuration." Hope that helps. Also let me add a slight correction on what Kalanki stated. Follow this path: start-all programs-accessories-system restore. That should show you a calendar with highlighted restorable points. Select a date BEFORE the problem started and run the restore.

Mr. Confused, Less jobs in US, more in India. Dell's almost 70% of support squad operates from Bangalore. Global equilibrium, not necessarily a bad thing, Better yet, we should try pushing these jobs further north. Later

su abuelo, chiple and kalanki bro, thanks for your inputs on this. I did try all the options but nothing worked at all. Just don't know what is the problem. First of all I logged back into my computer and removed Roxio like su said. Restarted it and lo..! the same problem again. Then I tried restoring the computer. I restored it to so far date that I fogot I had a wireless connection set up just two days back. It restarted my computer and I had no internet connection at all. I was like, shit man!! what did I do. I had downloaded Office 2000 premium edition. So I thought that might have been the problem. Then that didn't work either. Then when I started the computer it says, new hardware found. I was totally surprised. Now where the hell did this come from. I haven't put anything here and it says new hardware found. I suddenly remembered the date that I put for restoring my computer coz I had bought a wireless network card. I went back to the system restore thing, hoping to get some hint on this and there I finally got relief when I saw the option of reversing the restore thing that I did just now. Thank god! immediately I got the connection when it restarted my computer but the problem remained. Then I tried what Chipledhunga said about the last good configuration thing. This didn't work either Chiple bro. I think I might have to talk to somebody from India now su. Please if anybody have any idea, I am waiting desperately.

Hi, You might want to try this! Click on -Start - Control Panal - Performance and Maintinance - System. Click on Advance Tab and click on setting on the last where Startup and Recovery is. Low down the 30 second to 5 second. Hope this will help. Jshres

Bhanja, that is a useful tool for windows 98, and you can also execute that command from the "run" dialogue box in ME but it does not work for XP.

Frosty; Clik Start|Run, enter "msconfig". First tab should be "General", click "Advanced button. Now see if "Enable Startup Menu" is checked. If it is, that's what's causing your OS to bring up the start up menu. Simply uncheck that, Press 'OK" twice to get out. You may need to restart. I am assuming you are running home edition of XP. Did your laptop come with Restore CD? If so use it. If not ask Dell to ship in your address. They need you laptap's model/serial number. You may have to pay the mininum charge. Backup all your datas before use it. It will bring your laptop the time you bought it. This is the last step I always do. When I built a computer for someone I always make Restore CD. It saves time and money. Let me know if you need anymore help.

I think your problem's answer explained by Jshres ....... Right click on My computer you will get System Properties window Klick on advanced tab klick on Startup and Recovery you will see Default operating system and just below that there is seconds window, you can change that to your desired time This function is useful when you have multiple OS on your system ;)

Hmm.Sorry I posted same thing twice.Thanx Chipledhunga for your info. But so far reading the posts here I think Jackass has provided some alterantive problem.I know that he want to find the program that is causing the main problem. It might work. But bear in mind that you have to restart many many times. It will take hours and hours.Don't believe, try.Well, let me go to the office and check the XP maybe I can provide you with other alternative.Meanwhile , you should try to use the system disk or the restore CD that came along with the PC to restore the default program. But be aware that all your data will be lost !!!!! Well Bro, good luck !!!! Regards Bhanja
