Maoist killed 79-year-old man KOL Report TAPLEJUNG, Nov 13 - The Maoist rebels on Sunday killed a 79-year-old man by slicing off his neck for failing to cough up donation as demanded by them. The old man, who was the resident of Thinglabu Village Development Committee (VDC), has been identified as Prabahang Kedem. Following his gruesome death, the rebels have abducted his nephew, Dal Bahadur. Eyewitnesses said Thinglabu could be seen making entreaties to his assailants for a long time while his neck was being severed off by his assailants. The incident also has all the hallmarks of the gruesome act of the rebels since he was killed in front of the family members and neighbors. In fact, the rebels had goaded Bal Bahadur into watching the scene telling him: Cmon look at it all. This is how we finish people if they fail to pay up. Eyewitness also said no one dared to question while the rebels went ahead with their gruesome act. May your offspring die as cruel death, the victim has been claimed to have told the rebels while he was breathing his last. This was enough to draw the ire of the assailants who just let loose their khukuri on his body leaving the torso in pieces, eye-witnesses further said. (yo)

Well, they can go 'upper' than this level. They are the animals. It is so shocking to read about these news of killings and suicides from Nepal everyday. It looks like both the extremist armed forces won't let civilians rest in peace. May the old man's soul rest in peace. It is unfortunate that we Nepalese couldn't protect his fundamental right to live.

I am really ashamed to read this news that Maoists who called themself people's army, could kill human body of 79 years old infront his family members. I praise the old man for not paying the ransom and for his bravery to die instead paying them. He is a great hero. May his soul rest on peace. Nepe sir, speak something in defense of these cruel killers. No offense intended on Nepe sir. I am just citing your name, because you defend "Maoists" sometime if not most of the time. GP

Yes, I defend the political and social causes Maoists have "hijacked" from whoever should have raising them up. However, if you understood that as Nepe defending the Maoists themselves, do bear with me if you find it offensive, but all I can say is I am sorry for your intellect, GP ji. I don't know if it gets into you, but rest assured, I am far more anti-Maoist than you ever can be with an aware mind. And having known your violent mind which has issued countless sermons of killing and assasination in Sajha forums, I doubt if you even can comprehend the depth from which I deplore Maoist violence against innocent civilian, GP ji.

The original news is shocking and heartbreaking. However, it is very unfair for Nepe for asking him to speak in defense by that bajjiya GP. Is GP for a mental treatment in VA? If donation is required for his treatment, i will send some cents from my "khutrukke" or piggy box. What this stupid azz is trying to say?

Condolence to the family of Prabahang Kedem. This is very sad. How cruel-minded one has to be to slit a 80-year-old's thread? I am finding it hard to believe these people live in the same land as I do. ----------- On a side note, (and I am sorry that this "side" note is actually very long) those who have personal grudges with another individual should perhaps start a new thread, so that such issues can be discussed there. I find it disturbing when people intentionally try to distort the topic by calling individual names. People have differences. Let's accept that, shall we? Somebody who advocates active monarchy does not have to be of a royal lineage and might not be seeking benefit when s/he calls for an active king. That person does NOT need to defend all the bad things RNA does. Somebody who likes some of Maoists' demands--in this case, Nepe, who has been advocating a republic--does not have to be a Maoist and he need not answer any of the misdeeds committed by the Maoists. Some things are just obvious, aren't they? To tell the truth, out of the 40-point demands that Maoists presented, I support more than 25 of them (excluded ones have to do with foreign intervention and open economies). Adding that little "no offense" at the end of the sentence does NOT make a statement less offensive once one has called somebody in public. Bhunte, let's also accept the fact that anybody who does not accept with me does not have to be a mental patient. And if I am so interested in helping somebody, I would email that person--thanks to the technology--and send him/her a check without defaming him/her in public. So much about the willingness to help. When we bash somebody using all the good vocabulary and flowery language we have, aren't we somehow falling into the same trap we are telling the other person to avoid? My ek sukaa. It's 1 am on a mid-week day, my judgement could be wrong.

If people can not see the difference between objecting the means and supporting the ends, so be it. What else can one do more than explicitly stating every now and then that s/he condemns ALL the activities the maoists are doing.

M.P., tell me how you feel if the same person implicates you to speak to defend something like that? From Nepe's version "...having known your violent mind which has issued countless sermons of killing and assasination in Sajha forums.." GP's mind sounds like having some mp. I swear you I didn't bash him but a bare minimum alert. Kaso GP ji?

Bhunte, From what I understood, you misunderstood me. First part of my alias stands for "Misunderstood", so that's ok. :) Third paragraph in my previous posting should have answered your question--"how you feel if the same person implicates you to speak to defend something like that?" I request you to re-read that paragraph. It's 1:53 am to rephrase the same para. Signed, M.P.

I read this news this morning in Kantipur, and felt numb with shock and later felt like throwing up with disgust. Killing an innocent man -- and an 80-year-old one at that -- in such a gruesome manner is an act of utter cowardice and barbarity. I suppose Comrade Prachanda -- who draws inspiration from the lives of Mao, Stalin and Lenin -- will issue a form-letter type of public apology yet again, and assure us Nepali citizens -- for the 1000th time -- that such a thing was a mistake and will not happen again. I propose that some of us start collecting funds to credibly build a Memorial Site in Nepal to respect the lives of the innocent civilians who have been killed in this 7-year-old Maoist war. Let people like Mr. Prabahang Kedem not become just another data point in the blood-tinged statistics thrown up by this war. oohi ashu ktm, nepal

Nepe jyu, My apology to you, I did not mean to offend you in any level, but just wanted to get your views. Well, what else can I offer for the damages my poorly collected words have done on you. I should not have put your name first, and did not calculate the implications of the things I wrote on this side of screen will have on other side. GP

Let this thread not get deviated away from its core, and I assure the similar mistake will not repeat from my keyboard. Some time my intentions are not correctly conveyed by this 108 key keyboard, becuase of poor selections of words. GP

This is cruetly, utter bloodbath of an innocent man who has done nothing to them. Who is in no way, an imminent threat to them, and who has nothing but the rest of his life to live happily with. If this is not barbaric violence, then I dont know what is. I have read bad news regarding Maoists, but thesedays, I am starting to hear news, that are disgusting, and it is hard to believe the level these pajis can go to. Yet another death of an innocent Nepali. When is this going to stop? I remember this beautiful National song, "Nepali Nepala ko rachya gara", going down to dust, every day.........................

We all have been discussing the Maoists issue in Sajha. Why not all us of send mass emails to Prachanda, info@cpnm.org, to stop his attrocities. Also, send similar mails to UN, Amnesty, and other organisations, internationalize Nepal so that the world community is there. I mean, international pressure would mean something to the Maoists rt. Its just a thought. jaya_nepal

My condolence to the family of Prabahang Kedem. Speaking of cruelty, I recently met a Maoist victim from Rolpa, who witnessed 'safaya' by so-called Maoists people's court. In that particular incident, a group of armed Maoists with a commander came to victims house in the evening. They dragged the victim out from his house and the commander asked about the charges against him. To save his life, he accepted the charges of being a 'suraki' even though he didn't do it. The commander ordered for his safaya. According to the witness, one Maoist took off all his clothes except a short, just the way people prepare to sacrifice a goat in the village. He sliced victim's throat in front of his family. And he leaked the bloody knife. They left the scene after firing a gunshot in the air with their Maoist slogan. The witness was left behind thinking he was dead. He was air lifted to Kathmandu and survived. I saw a copy of Kantipur news with his pictures and his healed wounds with my eyes. It is unbelievable and he was very lucky to survive such ruthless attack. According to him, many people have fled the village; some went to the western countries, some went to India, and others went to a different village. Those who can not leave are the real victims of both Maoist and government forces at this time.
