More than 8000 Nepalis have died since 1996 in this Maoist versus the State war.
I undertand -- from informal but somewhat informed sources -- that:
a) More than half of all who have been killed have been Magars.
b) Kalikot Zilla leads all other Zillas in the number of deaths per thousand people.
In coming days, I wll do my best to track down the numbers, do a little analysis and and will post the " death stats" here. If others have other relevant info, please post it here.

i am not surprised, i think the magars are one of the poorest and neglected tribes of pple in nepal. They have their own voices, which no one heard till now. Its obvious they feel neglected and came out to become a maoist. when ever i see any Maoist in picture i see all Magars ( or mongols) i hardly see any Brahmins, Chettri and Newars.

That may be true. Magars make a great share of the national population.They are "straight" people.They trust others more easily than "other Jatis" do. That may be why more and more Magars have been attracted to Maoists.
May be, when Maoists train their recruits, they say "fight till you die". And the Magars really follow the guidelines.

I heard about 60% Maoist are Magars from the western Nepal. That's where the war started and magars are the majority population in the western hills. So, the death ration of magars must be true.
On another note, an unidentified Maoist victim told me that Krishna B. Mahara's wife has gone mad. Is that true? Is there any group or organization providing counseling to those victims of war?
