Kathmandu, Nov. 20: Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa today said he was not stepping down merely because of a few disgruntled persons in his Rastriya Prajatantra Party as it was not the party that made him Prime Minister.

At a press conference held at the Prime Minister’s residence at Baluwatar this evening, Premier Thapa reiterated that he was made head of government under Article 127 of the Constitution under special circumstances and that he was accountable only to His Majesty the King and to the Nepalese people. “That is why the party’s demand for my resignation is irrelevant.”

Earlier in the day, the Central Working Committee of the RPP had forwarded a proposal demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Thapa by tomorrow morning. Nine members, including Minister for Information and Communications, Kamal Thapa had walked out of the meeting.

Talking to the press, the Prime Minister did not rule out the formation of an all-party government. “I am and will always remain positive about it,” the Prime Minister said. “I have always been striving for it. But simply because some parties refuse to join it will not slow down the tempo of the government,” he said.

He added that an all-party government could be formed in four hours. However, what is more important is its structure and how it is formed. “I am waiting for the right type.” He said that the government was committed to restoring peace and law and order in the country to hold both local body and parliamentary elections.

Talking about the decision taken by the CWC meeting of the RPP today, the Prime Minister said that some people may have been unhappy. “But the government has extended full cooperation to the broader interest of the party and in promoting its cause,” he said, adding that the majority of the party workers were satisfied with the government.

He said the party’s national convention delegates were demanding a meeting of the party’s general body.

The Prime Minister ruled out the possibility of a split in the party, saying the majority of the party workers were against it and against the party’s decision taken today. “The party workers will use their conscience on it,” he said.

Earlier today, His Majesty the King had granted audience to the Prime Minister. Thapa said that his talks with His Majesty the King had focussed on the SAARC. “ I am not the kind who uses any opportunity to fulfill one’s petty interests.”

Thapa, as chairperson of the SAARC, is leaving for New Delhi on Sunday and then to the other capitals of the SAARC member countries for consultations.

The Prime Minister said that he had no formal information of the decision taken by the party’s meeting today.

Bottom line.. Jun Gori aye pani kanai chirya!!!!!!!

If this PM Thapa cannot bring the all Party Government then step down and let others work on it. I think Pashupati Samsher JB Rana can achieve with this. What my Sajha Fellows have to say on thi.

Cheers
