SITARA Posted on 21-Nov-03 10:20 AM

So, lately, I have contemplated picking up running/jogging. Yikes! something that bores me to death but reading about living/working/running healthy has seduced me into "thinking about running". Well, after my initial stint with rollerskating and numbing bum(ps), I was kind of happy that winter is here. I can, without a qualm, retire my skates. Well, now this thing about rrrrrrrrrrunnnnnnnning. So, I thought of getting a prop to aid me in my new "running hobby wanna have". so, I decided to adopt a puppy which I could happily drag along (well, according to animal laws, one is required to take one's dog for a run/walk). You know, like a built in health mechanism duty+beauty( ha!)+ health. Who was I trying to fool!

Anyways, armed with a determination, I spoke to my colleague who recently got a toy breed dog, more hair and hype, a fluffy one. "Oh! Sitara he is a terror!" Krista said. Apparently, Ziggly the rambunctious puppy was enrolled into an obedience school. The little 7 pound puppy looked tiny in front of the other huge German Shepard and Rotweiler. Krista, a little nervous that Ziggly would be too afraid to follow directions was rudely shocked to find him happily disobedient, more out of ignorant comfort than out of fear. While the other dogs marched one step at a time, Ziggly frolicked around pulling the trainer, leash and all. Well, Ziggly was unceremoniously adorned with a muzzled leash that tightens around the muzzle if he so as much as steps out of sync with the trainer! So, the end result: A grand finale parade of all the huge-breed dogs and a mortified/embarrassed Krista walking a tiniest, muzzled, dangerous- looking Hannibal-Lector look alike!!!!

The moral of the puppy tale was, "Be careful what you wish for Sitara, you might just find a puppy to run you!". Now, that did not deter me from inquiring about pound puppies who need to be adopted, but the chances of my being qualified was slim, as I cannot be with the puppy for 8 whole hours (while I am at work). Well, pound is out!

But, hey, I finally got one; a floppy moppy looking long haired little puppy with the cutest, flatest nose stuck on to his forehead. He has the shortest, stubbiest legs that can't climb the stairs (let alone run). I took him for a "run" and he mutinied; lay flat in the middle of the road, refusing to budge (wagging his tail at all other dog-walkers with beseeching "pick me up eyes"), while, I , between grumblings, groans had to pick him up and "run".

Now, running is double the effort. But, I am still waiting for that one fine day, when, like most Hindi movie dogs, my little BowWow will "fetch" my newspaper, his leash and greet me at my door wanting to take a run with me, guard and protect me. BUT, In the meantime, I am resigned to running after him with house training piddle pads!!!!

And what was it I had wished for????!!!! :)

Such a pretty day today and it is going to be a warm, gorgeousl weekend before Thanksgiving. This, one holiday I like, just because it is not as commercialized as Christmas is. Lately, I have seen too many heartbreaking stories of abused and traumatized children. So, this time, I have tried keeping my mind and my topic on the light side of life/living. PUPPY TAILS!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING SABAI LAI!
