RNA manuevering in Rolpa is bound to make a big news, sooner or
later, in media, I mean in international media. The army seems to
have outflanked the thousands of rebels assembled to self-satisfy
their sense of victory over a few police jawaans stationed in
Haleri police post.In likelyhood, their feeling of victory proved
premature.

What surprises me is the facts trickling out of Maoist circle.
Not only their military strategist Badal is there ensnared, there
are a lot of top ranked leaders of Maoists in that unenviable
situation. Maoists are saying that their other army platoon is
sorrounding the army position in Rolpa. A gurilla party can't do
that,we all know, until it has strength to fight RNA face-to-face.
The more Maoists army are sent there, the more destruction for
Maoists is there.

The Maoists army constitutes mostly teenagers whose marksmanship
is dubious, whose spirit is bolstered by romantic thought about
egalatarian society promised by Maoists, and few of whose
conscription to Maoist army was even forced.Although it is not
obvious who may win if all-out war is started between two
factions, it is very predictable.

People are tired of unwanted terrorism that is sapping national
unity and spirit. But people are more tired of Girija koirala.
Most Nepalese don't want RNA to work under Girija, and Girija
later vaunt his victorious teeth.People don't want corrupt people
like Govinda Raj Joshi rule us more years on the basis of victory
earned by RNA.

We are not politicans, we are observer. So we are free to tell
whatever we see. The politicans generally forgive a person's past
if the person is of their advantage in present or/and in future.
See Ram Chanra Paudel. Ram Chandra Poudel left Girija's gang in
disgrace. Mr Poudel was not tainted by corruption, but was not
the person fit to be prime-minister. First of all, Mr Poudel's
tenure as speaker was not that satisfactory. Then , he left such
a prestigious post to get ministership. People knew why he didn't
seek next term for speaker.Mr Poudel was also instrumental in
giving info about royal family's death to international media,
while he kept nepalese people little informed about that. He also
ordered arrest of kantipur editors, thus putting his own
commitment to democracy in doubt. Mr Poudel still talks about
socialism, and those old-fashioned stuffs. He is hundred times
better than his boss, but he is yet not the person who can lift
Nepalese living standard to a respectable position.

Some people say Beijing Olympics is actually won by Americans.
The American companies doing business in China had donated 20
million dollars to the Beijing Olympics campaigners for campaign to win the bid. Most American companies are optimistic that they
will get a lot of contracts in coming year, when Beijing starts
its drive to improve sports infrastructures.

Beijing 2008 is going to be the first olympics organized by a
poor third world nation with average per capita income less than
$1000.00.(As a city, Beijing's average per capita income hovers
around $4,000.00)Also, China is one of those few developing
nations that performs really good in olympic games. A poor
country like Nepal can learn a lot from Chinese experience.

In Nepal , anti-China comments come couched in the enchanting
words of human rights and stuffs like that. People with vested
interests are more involved in such China-bashing campaigns.

China has fortunately risen above the petty internal politics of
Nepali parties. Until now, there are no
incrimination/recrimination against China in Nepal's elections.
This is a good environment and both countries should strive to
preserve this. Once, the vicious cycle of bashing a neighboring
country for one's petty political interest starts, it doesn't
end without causing sufficient damages.

Those people who write against China in Nepal must be careful
while writing such comments. It is good to criticize a neighboring
country for its alleged violation of international norms. But
if we are criticizing the country without really knowing what
happened, or if we are criticizing the country just by reading
article published in western papers, then we are making mistakes.
We must know our friends on time, and we must take care of our
national interest on time.

May be it is time we should focus on what we can gain now that
Beijing is going to spend US$15 billion on infrastructure making
for Olympics?
