I just went to a car dealer with a friend who is in this town for long with great expeirences on how to strip off peoples. So, it seems car cost vary from as low as 100 to ..............00. Well, used cars also vary in the same order. But, peoples say Japanese Brand car are more reliable than Domestic brands. Cars are too expensive (used cars) than you can imagine in Japan, but, new cars are comparatively cheaper than in Japan. So the margin between new and old car is not much in this country. GP

JPT, looks like you are looking for a car, ho? Anyway, these are the points I would think of: First of all, what is my budget? Within my budget: What types of vehicles am I considering? Any particular make or model that I prefer the most? Any make or model that I am not considering at all? Again those two questions are based on (not in a very precise order): What is the reliability rating? What about fuel efficiency and power? Any known issues with the particular make or model of any given year? How does the marked price compare with the book value (as listed in Kelly and/or NADA)? Should I get a relatively newer vehicle with higher mileage versus an older vehicle with lower mileage (eg: 2000 model with 50K miles or a 1997 model with 45K miles?) How does it cost in terms of insurance? How is the resell value? Any safety or luxury feature(s) that I must have? What kind of driving do I mostly do? Frequent short trips within the city, frequent long highway trips? That's all I can think of now. Good luck to you, if you are currently in the market.

Thanks CD and GP. I guess what I was trying to ask you guys is if you're on a tight budget and you couldn't have 'em all in a car, what would you look for first. Would it b looks, reliability, speed, power, size(spacious/compact), gas mileage, or some other things? And how would you prioritize them?

JPT mitra, my experience says that - deciding on which car to buy is a difficult job, particularly when u r with limited budget. It took me 3 months to see the cars around and finally ended up with one. Folks say that i decided on a good one, but stil i can see limitations with it. I too was in budget deficit category, and if i extrapolate my situation and suggestion to you - i suld say,, don go for looks and luxury,, better don go for fully automatic system, manual cars are cheaper and maintenance is also low (so far as i know). Power system in windows and locks add cost to the car,, but i would encourage to have manual stuffs there. leave the Best looking and luxury cars for future when u earn lots - thats in what i am satifying myself. Reliability of the car is the most important thing for you. Preferably go for japanese cars, particularly when the mileage is high. American cars are well known for giving troubles when it becomes a bit old. also it is important to consider the resale value of the car. Car value depreciated because of the MODEL and MILEAGE, both have unequal rates at different levels. so u gotta model the depreciation of a car in relation to how u gonna use it,, within town or lots on the highway. simply looking at car with different mileage and model in KBB will give u a true picture of how will the resale value of ur car be for the future. and a very pessimistic opinion,, if u r just a student and car is more a luxury than need (as is for me),, don buy a car. its gonna squeeze ur fats because of the costs associated with it. Fuel is cheap but fuel is an insignificant part of the cost of being a car owner. once u gotta repair it, u feel like killing the mechanic,, almost all mechanics seem to be choor. car repairing is a shady business. See i am tired of costs of having car,, katai mero kinnee hoo kii??? finally, happy searching a car.

Car Dealers are the worst people to deal with in USA . I bought a Civil LX in 2000 and got Looted ... But Honda Makes very good cars. I haven't had any problems so far and I have put on 30K+ mileage on my car. Accord is a great car. Also try to check out Camry.. They make great car too. keep looking at the newspaper and TV for the deal . Don't just go to the dealer. First call them or contact them by email. Many dealers have internet sales department and they sell cars cheaper. good luck
