Previously, Snowy Mountain Engg. Corporation (SMEC) of Australia has got permission to develop WEST SETI (750 MW) hydro project in far western Nepal, but SMEC has not been able to start the project, as it has not been able to agree on a power purchase agreement with India [2002]. However, recently, there was a Power deal signed. The Power Trading Corporation of India and SMEC have entered into the Power Purchase Agreement concerning this MEGA Project. According to the deal, the power will be sold to the Indian company at the rate of Rs. 3.60. I DOUBT ON THIS PRICE, which is comparatively cheaper. Anyway, it's a good news for the devpt. of Energy Sector of Nepal as West Seti is targeted to be commissioned by 2008. This is a storage project, which could be used as a peaking station (if Nepal needs) and will be a test case in relation to power sales to India. West Seti, a mega watt Export oriented hydroproject. Few of our ENERGY EXPERTS in Nepal might be worried as they were/are only focussing on the micro-hydro devpt. only. What do u say, Micro-hydroproject vs Mega-hydroproject: which one will be more benefit for the devpt. of Energy sector of Nepal?????
