L-a-x Sir,

Well, the political parties are on the street again, you can join them. I went to one of the julush and at the end of the day, I felt like a very responsible citizen!

They had not started slogans like "we want republic" then, but shouting other modest slogans was fun nonetheless.

------------
Or, if you think the king is doing a good job, go to the pancha rallies. It's safer I think.

------------
If you do not want to go to these political stuff, there are so many gostis, chalfal, aamsabhas going on, you can just go to one of those. Go to Martin Chautari, they usually have good discussions going on there.

Go to TU, see the English department burnt down by your contemporaries, graffity on the wall, disorganized library and feel fortunate for getting better opportunities than what most of the people are getting in Nepal.

Rest on the bars of Rani Pokhari and appreciate the serenity, watch people cross the road right under the over-head crossing, smile at them as they come out from the other end of the street. Go to the bharbhare momo pasal underneath the Mirage!

Go to the cinema, buy the ticket for a third-class seat where you have to stretch your neck to see the movie. Clap and whistle as the hero flies on his bike.

Go to one of the chiya-pasal, talk to the pasale for the whole day. Know one more person and see if there is anything he has to offer, if anything you can learn from his life.

Go to Swaymbhu, buy some peanuts on your way to the top, feed the monkeys. Listen to the music blinds and disableds are playing near the steps (unless they have been sent away by some doot while preparing a clean road for one of the sawaaris). Ask them what they feel about the world, music, politics.

Bottom line: If you are in Nepal for a short time, let every part of you that you had to supress while in the U.S. in the name of adopting the new culture (or "being civilized" as some would put it); things you do will be the things you will remember and cherish for decades!

P.S. I am VERY surprised you are asking for what things are there to do in Ktm. For me, there were simply too many things. And I was there for full two months, not one!

L-a-x, here are my two cents:

1. Post your impressions about Kathmandu and Nepal if you are there after a long time. Jot down here what are you are excited of, things that depressed you, the differences you observed, the trends you see, etc. about people, places, programs, adi eetyadi....

2. Arrange another round of kathmandu sajha extravaganza. It is not necessarily be in a restura, but in any public places like Balaju, Godawari, Dakkchhinkali, Ratnapark, Gokarna, Raniban, Budhanilkantha, Pashupati, Kakani, etc. Potluck party may be a good idea. Take good quality snaps and post here.

3. Enjoy your trip to Nepal with family and friends during your stay there.
