Concern raised in Canada over Nepal’s security situation

PR

KATHMANDU, Dec 17 - Nepali intellectuals working in Canada and their Canadian colleagues have expressed their deep concerns over the security situation in Nepal and claimed that it would take another 15 years to rebuild the infrastructures damaged by the Maoists.
Speaking at a discussion programme entitled "Nepal: Political Crises, Voices and Possibilities" held in Vancouver, Canada, the intellectuals said that violent activities carried out by the Maoists in rural areas of Nepal have created fears among the development workers.

On the occasion,Economist Dr. Ratna Shrestha, International Development Consultant Suresh Bhatta, Associate of CISAR/University of British Columbia (UBC) Maureen Miden, graduate student at UBC Aditya Sharma, Software Engineer Lomas Regmi, Amanda Gibbs of Institute for Media, Policy and Civil Society, Engineer Naresh Koirala, Nepal’s Honorary Consul General Chris Considine, and chair of the Dialogue Institute Robert Anderson shared their views on the situation facing Nepal.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT EACH INDIVIDUAL HAS DONE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT IN NEPAL. JUST TALKING AND EGO PROMOTING MAKES NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL.

Oh! so-called intellectuals of CANADA!

May I tell you the real story of a helpless woman who is caring two dozens orphan children in Kathmandu, in spite absence of great posts like yours? Your seminars and ego trips are just like shit to us in Nepal. Will you verify about the woman if I tell you or give you address? Will you come forward and help?

Or just gafastacs are you?

It is understandable and nowadays natural - most people go after name and fame after earning a little money. But when time comes to do something solid, they run away.

In Canada, immigrants are having miserable life except a very few who entered ten or more years ago and got their dream jobs. The govt. of Canada is Kumbhakarna - does nothing for upliftment to improve their condition. While these so called proudy intellectuals are scared to death to raise a voice there for their friends, they are worried about Nepal. Shame! Immigrants (Skilled category) are skilled only when they apply and pay their application fee and landing fee ( each adult person in a family has to pay $1475 ) Most people say, it is a sort of business they are doing. You just multiply 300,000 by 1475, it comes to more than 440 millions plus of those whose were rejected.

Can anyone imagine? There are no jobs - even survival jobs, since so many years. But the govt. is targetting to bring 300,000 more in 2004. This number was 250,000 last year. No one speaks out against this because these so-called intellectuals are cowards who are fast asleep and they are on the ego-trip like other friends said.

Buddu's buddi says .... SELF-CONSCIOUS DISEASE ATTACKED THEM. OH! I AM SOMETHING - I AM DIFFERENT THAN OTHERS.

THERE IS A SAYING IN MUSLIM DHARMA... GOD WHISPERED IN EVERYONE'S EAR BEFORE SENDING TO EARTH " YOU ARE SPECIAL, I MADE"

I am puzzled as to why some Sajha folks are being unnecessarily harsh here.

As far as I, for one, am concerned, one does NOT need to prove or authenticate
one's credentials as a doer-for-Nepal to express one's concern for Nepal from afar.

I mean, since when have we started requiring Nepalis living abroad to do something
for their native country first before they even dare talk about Nepal?

Surely, Nepalis and people of Nepali origins EVEREYWHERE have all the right to express their views about Nepal -- anytime, anywhere and in any manner of their choosing,
hoi na ta?

It's one thing to disagree, with reason, with the views expressed by some membes of the Nepali diaspora. One can, for instance, certainly raise questions as to whether such concerns for Nepal, expressed from afar, will have any effect in Nepal.

But it's completely unfair to attack the opinion-holders for their supposed personal failings (i.e. their living away from Nepal and their "not doing anything for Nepal"),
and then use those alleged failings to ridicule them.

That's not good.

In other words, let's attack ideas and views with reason.
And let's not get personal.

Disclosure: I know NONE of those above-mentioned Canadian Nepalis in person.

Nothing is bad ...Nothing is good.
Because people just talks too much and does nothing, something is necessary to shock. That's not bad. For good people only, there are many bads around.
