(CNN) -- A magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit the central California coast about 11:15 a.m. (2:15 p.m. ET), the U.S. Geological Survey said. The epicenter was located about 7 miles from San Simeon, 240 miles north of Los Angeles, the USGS reported. There was no immediate report of damage from the quake, but park rangers in San Simeon have ordered evacuation of the Hearst Castle, the palatial home built by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, a worker at the attraction's gift shop told CNN.
