If you are in the US but don't have SSN for various reasons, you may want to apply for ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number).This number works just like SSN for the following and some additional purposes:open bank accounts, order telephone, get driver's license, pay federal and state taxes, and many more.No fee required.Issued by IRS.9 digit number in XXX-XX-XXXX format.You get the card with the number in about 6 weeks.Here is the form W-7 (page 1) and the instructions W-7 (pages 2-4). Additional new requirements will be applicable after April 15, 2004. Good Luck ! DP.
