Is anyone doing master's or phd in university of texas Austin or Texas A and M? I am thinking of applying to these colleges and I did nt got much information about financial aid ( research /teaching assistantship) in the web. do they provide asistantship from the beginning or only after seeing performance of first semester? i did nt find financial aid form in the website either, so if any of you know about this, could you please post some information here. it will be very much appreciated. thanks.

Which dept you are trying to get into? Fnancial assistanceship is competive in UT Austin. Admission to graduate school does not guarantee any financial aid, although i have seen several fresh graduate students (incl foreign students) getting financial aid right from the beginning. And of course, some graduate students never get aid at all and some of them leave school in frustation.

yes i agree, its really difficult to get into austin and a and M. they both says we can apply from common application form for many texas schools for admission but i did nt find financial aid form ( for research or teaching assistantship). i am thinking of applyint to urban planning program in those schools. are you studying in UT austin? if you have more information, please post here, and what is the way of applying for aid?

I was in UT, Austin several years ago. I am no longer even in Texas. I hear there are over 80 Nepalese in that city now, so you will not feel lonely there! You should contact your department directly for financial aid application. Financial aids to graduate students (like admission to graduate school) are awaded by individual departments. If you need help of any sort by any Nepalese in Austin, please let me know. or you can look up Austin telephone directory over the net for names like Adhikary, Bhattarai, Pant etc. You will find firendly Nepalese there! Good luck. Austin is a great place to be in. So is Texas!

South, Think of Rice University too. It is, at least, very generous in money if you are aiming at graduate program and if the program you are interested in is offered at Rice.
