"Damn..!! This has to go down as one of the finest and the best innings ever played in International cricket", I thought to myself. It was the Super Sixes of '99 World Cup in England when Australia had to win against South Africa to reach the Semi-final or they are out of the World Cup. They were deeply struggling and were about to go down when the man himself stepped up to play the innings that not only put Australia into the Semi-final but gave the cricket fans a fantastic innings of "grit" and "authority" to watch. The 120 skipper Waugh made gave world cup to Australia and without doubt the best innings Waugh ever played. It is not only that, but Steve Waugh has played some ominous innings both in One-dayers and specially in Test when he recently surpassed Sir Don Bradman's record of the most number of centuries in Test by an Australian. He is definitely an Idol of the game and its not surprising that he has planned to step down after the Test Series against Australia at his home ground. He had always wanted to win Series in India in conditions that suited Spin and cross-batted shot would yield Six if hit with precision. He was so close to claiming the series the last time Aussies visited India. It was in Calcultta when Australia had set up a big first innings score and were looking to thrash India out when Indians were struggling at 80 odd runs with 4 wickets down. Laxman and Dravid produced a partnership with both playing exqusite innings to deny Australia the victory that they were so close to getting. Nevertheless, the last Test Captaincy of Steve Waugh is going down as the best Test series between India and Australia with India slamming home the Second Test victory. The final and decider Test and Waugh's final test is turning out to be an absolute cracker and I hope that the man steps down with another of his fantastic gritty innings. Good Luck to the Legend for the rest of his life.
